Fool's Bluff is the first book in the Samantha Shepherd mystery series. I found this to be a good mystery book. None of the high voltage drama and psychological thrill, but still manages to be pretty captivating. Samantha Shepherd leads a group of six up a mountain for the annual Challenge. Two days later, she comes down with only five, after one backpacker vanishes. As Sam’s search for her missing hiker takes her into ever-more threatening terrain, she uncovers secrets never meant to be revealed. Fool's Bluff is a light mystery/suspense book and at times I found myself drawing comparisons to The Famous Five & The Five Find-Outers with the dog and everything. One-Thirds through the book after the hiker was found, I thought that I'd lose in the mystery because wasn't that the premise of this book? I was a bit disappointed that the hiker was found so fast (blame it on the darker psychological thrillers I've been reading), but fortunately the story manages to keep the suspense going. I liked all the characters of this book especially Penelope "Pips" & Drew. Together with Sam and the rest of the crew, they're entertaining & amusing! The setting of this book in the beautiful Glacier Village and reading about Sam's passion for mountaineering is also something I enjoyed! Thank you, NetGalley, Kobo Writing Life & Lee Gregg for an arc!
Just loved this book! It hit all aspects of what i look for in good read. Loved the well defined characters of Samantha, her friends and her worthy dog. Looked forward to every Saturday morning with a cup of coffee, nestled in and see what was happening with my friends in Glacier Village. I finished the last two chapters of the book last night at 1:45AM because I could not sleep until i knew the truth!
This book is fascinating. It has me wanting to read the next episode before it even hits the email. I wait in agony for the next chapter. I just love it and I am in my late 60's
This is Lee Gregg's first book in the Samantha Shepherd Mystery series. It is excellent! In fact, I kept forgetting that the main characters were high school students because the storyline was so intense. It is a book of today's teenagers solving a mystery...a terrible mystery, as compared to the old school mysteries that I read as a teen and pre-teen. I will definitely be looking for the next in the series.
Friendships and family relationships are difficult and often filled with drama. The book is a story that looks at some twisted relationships and some positive ones. How far will someone go to be noticed? And how much does social media play into those teen years? I thought the story was well done. The twist at the end was unexpected.
“Fools Bluff” is Lee Greggs first book in the Samantha Shepherd mystery series. An interesting, suspenseful mystery book with well defined characters. Thank you to NetGallery and Lee Gregg for the opportunity to read and review “Fools Bluff.”
This was an excellent read, but unfortunately very scary on so many levels. This story addresses mental illness, domestic violence, consequences of our actions as well the consequences of sharing too much on social media. A very good read with so many different things addressed in the telling of such a very story, but not the least of which is slso how we treat our elderly & how damaging the "freedom of the press" can be when proper investigation & due diligence are not done. It has the power to ruin lives. All in all, this is such a good read with a twist I totally did not see coming. Worthwhile, so looking forward to future stories from this author!
Great mystery!! Quickly you become interested in the life of Samantha, a young female who is quite capable of taking care of herself. But what happens when she is in charge of a group of hikers of the annual Challenge? You will enjoy reading this.
This book is easy to read, and with a clear timeline and an OK plot, but it's just not captivating. Descriptions of characters are not very good, and everything seems a little strange.
