She’s the first and Andwele Abioye has no blue print for how to fulfill an ancient prophecy that he’s inherited from his forefathers, the Sons of Sango, an order of demigods tasked with facilitating the awakening the spirits of Oya’s dragon daughters. The objectives have been passed down from generation to generation and have been drilled into Andwele and his brothers. And they are crystal clear. Gain her unwavering trust—all of it before the Trial by Fire begins. Don’t die. Reap her human soul. Awaken her dragon spirit. And, oh yeah. Don’t die.
Eshe Taylor is emotionally unraveling and doesn’t understand why. She’s living in a waking dream and with each passing day, her neurosis seems to be getting worse. She can’t sleep or eat. Eshe can’t focus on simple tasks and is becoming overwhelmed by paranoia, anxiety, emotional imbalances that are becoming unbearable. One evening, her worst fears come to light, and Eshe finds herself living one of her nightmares. But what she doesn’t understand is that things are about to get much worse, and all she has to help her survive this is the man who manipulated her and dragged her into an unbelievable destiny she wanted no part of.
I thoroughly loved this book. It’s not a genre I read often but since J.D. Mason wrote it, I read it and I’m glad. Eshe: The Fire Breathing Season is mystical, current while being otherworldly. I loved the history of Eshe’s origin and the familial dynamics. The combination of Ashe and Andwele brings first ice and then fire. Andwele brings masculinity in the fullness but meeting the challenge of Eshe quells and softens him. I don’t want to give away anything because I want and need you to read it for yourself. Excellent.
I'm not a big fantasy fan, but I picked this one up because she is one of my favorite authors. I loved this book, and the author did a really good job with the story. There were several spots where my mouth was left open. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Eshe was spiraling, trying to gain control over her internal struggles. Anxiety, depression, manic episodes you name it, Eshe probably dealt with it all. She was fighting what was inside of her, what she truly was meant to be. Andwele is sent to help Eshe transition into her true form as painlessly and careful as possible, but with the type of personality he possesses, it is far from easy. With shadows lurking, crooked cops on the trail and an ancient Tangee in the mix, this dragon release is filled with drama on top of action with a little tenderness sprinkled in. This series will be interesting for sure
I have never been into dragons or the paranormal, but this book has cha bed my mind. So we'll written! I felt as if I was there in the a!let with the shadows, in the warehouse when the ancestors were standing around. Could feel the best of the drums!! Can not wait until the next one in the series comes out!
I am always looking for new and exciting stories to read. The story of fear and faith was awesomely romantic and fun to read. J.D. Mason created a new adventure for her fans. Can't wait to read book 2.
I could not put this down once I started reading. Although part of me wished it was longer so many things were touched on. It was beautiful that Eshe and Andwele has to acknowledge and then overcome their own issues in order to survive.
Wow! This is far from my favorite genre but I really enjoyed every minute of this book and look forward to reading more in this series. I hadn’t read anything from this author in awhile but she’s definitely one of my favorites. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I'm not one of those people who are into GOT. But I love mythology and shape shifting characters. Eshe is so good! I can't wait to get into the next book.
This needs more than 5 stars. This woman was born to write. Eshe has life long challenges ...but then she is a dragon. Oh my goodness. I completely suspended disbelief.
If I say Eshe is a mess at the start of her book and for a fair portion of it, you’ll think I’m unkind. But, she does have issues which she’s been fighting all her life. That doesn’t mean she’s not courageous and smart. She doesn’t fit anywhere and nothing is as it seems. Eshe gradually grows into who she is, although she kicks and screams all the way there.
Fantasy is not my favorite genre, but this book had me wrapped up from start to finish. The characters are multi-faceted and fascinating. Andwele is an alpha hero through and through. He’s been chosen for an integral role in Eshe’s life and despite his lack of enthusiasm at the start, he takes to the task with gusto … too much at times. His sometimes clueless approach makes him likable and he doesn’t back away from life-threatening situations.
He’s the right man for the job, though, given his shady reputation and skill sets. J.D. Mason did a great job with his character, moving him from a selfish, snarky individual, to one who recognizes and embraces his role as hero.
Andwele and Eshe’s connection, when it eventually happens, is satisfactory and this reader was happy and relieved. If you like tales of high adventure with demigods and shifters, you’ll enjoy Eshe.
