Lorelei Brogan was born and raised in Idaho where she currently lives with her husband.
While sitting in her graduate school apartment, studying Rock science, Lorelei decided to set aside her notes and try her hand at romance.
At the same time, she used to write articles for a local newspaper under a pseudonym, and this made her wonder if she could write something besides news -- about something she really loved. At the age of 40 she managed to make her dream come true.
She has a great family and 4 sons that she adores. She is extremely proud of them, and so are they. They really admire her work, and support her in every step of her life. Her oldest son, who deeply loves her, says Lorelei’s novels make him travel to a different world.
In her spare time, she loves cooking and volunteering at her local elderly care home. She also adores traveling with her husband. Their dream is to travel all over the world, with Asia being at the top of her “bucket list”.
Lorelei Brogan has become one of my favorite Authors. She is a great storyteller. I have read quite a number of her books and I am always looking forward to the next one. I thoroughly enjoyed this book so much so that I didn't want it to end. And every character is so well developed. I liked them all; especially the main characters Alina and Carson. Alina and Carson have been friends ever since early childhood. However Carson ended up marrying another and during that time their friendship hadn't remained strong; although they still had a lot of respect for one another. In the synopsis for the book it says that Carson has lost everyone he ever cared for. Not true. He did lose his wife and young daughter to bank robbers. They were in the bank when outlaws robbed the bank and were shot in the process. Carson's Father had long since passed away. However Carson did have his Mother who he has always been able to count on. Because of the loss of his wife and child he became almost obsessed with the safety of town and its citizens especially his childhood friend Alina and her family. After the loss of Carson's wife and daughter, Carson and Alina renew their friendship. The friendship they share is so important to them that even though they have fallen in love with the other. They are afraid to tell each other of their love for fear that if the other didn't return that love then their friendship may suffer as a result. The risk of losing the friendship they have for the other was so strong and important to them they were afraid of revealing their true feelings. Another important relationship in this book is the relationship between Carson and his best friend Jack, a former lawman. Both of them lost people in the earlier bank holdup. Carson considers the rest of the town like family too. He is so obsessed with keeping the town safe and trying to prevent loss of life to include his deputies, he often tries to deal with things alone rather than fully utilizing his deputies to back him up. This puts himself and hostages at risk. There are so many twists and turns in this book. There is a lot of drama in this book as you read on to see how things will turn out. There is a lot excitement in this book. The leader of the gang was a man named Lee and his brother Kenneth. Lee was the true leader of the gang. The thing I like most about how this Author dealt with the gang leader Lee is that she didn't make excuses for him. He wasn't from a bad family. He hadn't been mistreated. Rather he was from a good family. He was a guy who had decided to go bad, to make the wrong choices in life. It was a good clean read. Enjoyed it thoroughly. I am looking forward to her next book.
This was an excellent story about "the one who got away" that was redeemed in the end for a HEA. Alina's father owed the town saloon and she, being 18, helped him by working in the kitchen, cleaning and keeping the books. She was shunned by some of the townspeople because a lady wouldn't work in such a place. To Alina, it was a business that supported her and her 2 siblings. She loved her childhood best friend who was the Sheriff but a bit older. Their lives took different paths though. When Alina's mother died, she took on the responsibility of raising her siblings and Carson married a newcomer to the town. A gang of outlaws pulled a bank robbery with tragic consequences. Alina found out that a man who was courting her was in a gang who was terrorizing the area. There's much suspense following a saloon robbery and a kidnapping. This book will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. There's also an extended epilogue that takes place about 6 years later to round out the story. I received an ARC from the author; this my voluntary review. Thanks Lorelei!
ONE INCREDIBLE READ!!! OMG! Wow! I'll get it out eventually. Maybe. Lorelei totally nailed this bad boy 100% on point with so many emotions it kept me riveted and frozen to my seat. I couldn't put this little jewel down had I wanted to. All the drama, fear, heartache, mystery and suspense builds while tension spirals. This is one amazing storylines with an incredibly strong plot that brings this read together perfectly. Twists and turns abound with unexpected circumstances that make for one thrilling experience. All the trials and tribulations, hope, uncertainty, loss and love make this one outstanding reads that you won't want to miss. The characters are complex and believable with such depth and individuality it's easy to relate. The scenes are so graphically detailed and descriptive you have no trouble picturing each scenario as they play off one another in perfect balance. Lorelei brought it with this amazing tale and swiftly bringing this read roaring to life flawlessly. Remarkable job Lorelei, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
This book was about Alina who had to raise her brother and sister after her mom died. She had to give up her dreams of being a teacher and help her father run their saloon. Her childhood friend the Sheriff marries another woman but when the woman and his child are murdered in a bank robbery he becomes obsessed with saving the town while drowning in his grief. When Alina becomes kidnapped by a dangerous gang he finally realizes how much he cares for her. There were plenty of twists and turn, action and adventures. I enjoyed the characters and the various relationships of the townspeople. However I hated all the flip flopping from present to different points in the past. It was often confusing and hard to follow. I love this author but this was my least favorite of her books. It was hard to keep track of the different time lines. I think it could have been handled smoother.
This is a serious and deep story about two childhood friends. Their back story is not a happy one, but their love for each other is deeper than they realize. Neither one ends up happy with the mate that they chose. The West can be a dark and dangerous place, and revenge seems to be in the air. The emotional impact wasn't as great as I thought it could be, and Carson seemed lost in his guilt and pain, instead of being the sheriff he promised himself he wanted to be. I loved Alina; she was so torn by duty and what she truly wanted from life. Even so, she is a strong woman with a strong character, understanding life doesn't always turn out the way you want, but living with what you have the best you can.
Enjoyed this western romance that was quite long but read quickly. Please include extended epilogue in original download on Kindle. It is a bit of a disappointment to read the last page & then learn that there is an additional epilogue that you have to go online to download to actually finish the book. Reading an additional 3o+ pages is no chore when you are really into a book that you are enjoying. I am getting a bit tired of this recent fad with Western & Regency writers. Please consider your reader before doing this to your fans. Thanks & keep on writing these Pioneer Western Romance novels.
I received an ARC of this book from the author, Lorelei Brogan, and this is my voluntary and honest review. I enjoyed reading this book that was full of adventure and the love story of Alina and Carson. The only thing I disliked was all the flashbacks at the beginning of the book about an incident that happened five years earlier that mainly involved Carson. Overall, it was a great book and well worth reading.
The first half of the book is really hard to follow
There are way too many flashbacks and they have many different times making the storyline hard to follow. It is very disjointed and confusing until a little over halfway through the book. Then the story is a good read! I like the characters, even the bad guys! There is good suspense and if course love!
I loved the characters and story line of this historical romance. Alina and Carson have been lifelong childhood friends who briefly lost touch with one another when Carson, the town sheriff, got married. When tragedy strikes Carson and his family he falls into despair and needs his best friend, Alina to heal. Beautiful romance about true love ending in a happily ever after.
Could have been a good story but went back and forth between present and years before so much was hard to keep up with main story. The language was sometimes contemporary. Carson and Aline had been friends since childhood. Carson was sheriff and Aline's father owned the town saloon.
Alina worked with her father, keeping books and cleaning his saloon. She also helped by mothering her younger brother and sister. Carson had been her special friend for years. He became a deputy then sheriff. She thought she had lost him When he became engaged to another.
Thank you Lorelei Brogan for writing another great, clean historical romance! I absolutely loved this book, just enough adventures and loved the ending as well! Thank you!
This is a story about Alina and Carson. Good friends with the typical growing pains. I thought this was a fairly good book, but found it somewhat hard to follow as it jumped back and forth between time frames. (Too many flashbacks for me.)
I really enjoyed the book,it had lots of adventures, heartache, revenge, friendship, and of course love. Great read couldn't put the book down. Can't wait to read your next book.
Great book. A little hard to follow at times, so at times I've had to re-read sections. A lot of bad guys but more good comes to help! But I so loved the family times in this story.
Really enjoyed this book! Feels so good to read a HE A ending and be smiling at the end! And don't miss the extended epilogue! I wasn't a fan of all the flashbacks, but it does give the backstory. All in all, a good read!
Alina and sheriff Carson's story is well written there is suspense, drama, danger, kidnapping, twists, turns, outlaws and romance. This story kept me on the edge of my seat I had to know how it turned out. I recommend this book.
I would love to say this was a good book. However I skipped ahead IMO it stubborn too long. It didn't hold my interest because it kept changing the time period which was confusing.
This book seemed interesting enough but I didn't enjoy the writing style at all. This book was all over the place it kept sending you back into the past for long periods of time. It felt very dragged out and not enough romance. You didn't feel the love between the two main characters.
Anachronistic. Thermos wasn't in the US until at least 1907. But this was shortly after theCivil War?? But when? Where did this take place? Since it's called an Historical western I assume it's in the west somewhere. Too tedious.
This was truly a story of second chances. I really enjoyed it. The author has a way of keeping a story on track with little surprise that just made it more interested. I highly recommend this book.
So much drama, danger, and heartache how can these people survive. They feel like my family so it was a good read. Great stories keep you in suspense and this did not fail.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It was truly a really good story. Seeing Carson working so hard to keep Alina safe even when the odds were against them was amazing. This really was a good story.
Historical true western with bank robbery and kidnappings the backstory is entwined between the adventure so you always understand what is happening and why.
Like. The book she loved him he didn't see it .she had to work hard Had to take responsibility for her sister and brother love at last she got the sheriff
