Bought by The Empyrean King is a full-length novel with a HEA. 18+ Only!
Born and raised near Pacific Grove in California, where only about 15000 souls live, Hollie found her passion in writing since she was just nine. She would write odd short stories about fantastic beings or plays she would enact with her friends, where she was always captured by some sort of beast. In these stories, there was no Prince Charming, only dragons and werewolves that were both scary and fascinating.
As she grew older she dwelled into more adult topics. She learned about the fun and fire of steamy romance novels, where the peculiar traits of her favorite characters made them dangerously alluring, physically and psychologically. Today these characters are like people inside her head. They that won't leave her alone until she gives them life. And even though she is the only one writing, Fifty* is always there to assist with inspiration.
*Mom's girl. Probably the brattiest chihuahua ever.
The chemistry was fake. They spent five minutes with each other and I'm expected to believe they fell in love and his character changed enough for others to take offense? Why was a human bride unacceptable but other aliens weren't? How could a human bride make a lick of difference and since earth had been conquered for a relatively short amount of time, how could humans have earned such a scathing reputation like they've been around the alien empire for centuries? The plot made no sense. The characters were hollow cardboard cutouts and the sex scenes were boring. I wish I could get a refund, but I can't. Boo
I received this book as a gift of an advance read copy and I would like to give my honest opinion of my thought on this book.
I am always surprised when I read one of Hollie’s books. I read so many and then I get one of hers and it is a difference in night and day in comparison to some of what I have read. Not that the other authors are not talented because they are but Hollie’s talent is off the charts. She is just not a writer of books but something that is even rarer than that she is a story teller. Many, many years ago before we became a world of television, and phones that can transfer images in an instant; where it would take days to travel across some states and months to cross the country towns if they were fortunate enough would have one person that could spin a story. A story so rich and full of description that every one would sit with baited breath for the next word, to come out of their mouth. These are the type of books that Hollie writes. They are not just simple books of girl sold to alien race, has mad sex and the live happily ever after. They are complex stories giving a background on the girl and where she is going. At one point you don’t know how is her friend or who is her enemy. Towards the end you get so many surprising twist and turns that you will be completely blown away. She has done it again to not read this book would be doing yourself an injustice.
This book is written after a terrible war has taken place on the Earth. Not a war between countries but a war that has come from outer space. Aliens had invaded the world and after the war that destroyed so much the Aliens won and then the wars between them started in claiming parts of the Earth. The United States however sold it’s lands, it’s country over to the Empyrean race. Things change rapidly after that if you were wealth you were set, if you had a skill set that would help the new found government then you too were set. But if you were just a normal joe well things didn’t work out so well for you.
Jenna’ parents had met while in college and in their Senior year the war ended and they were married. For reasons that I will let the story itself tell they had to leave college. People now no longer had last names. They kept their first names and the initials of the city and state they were from along with the number of their generation that had been established in the country. Her mother Louise family went back so fifty or so generation but her father’s went back 67; so that was their last name SFC67. After a few years Louise became pregnant and when her labor started something was wrong. They didn’t want to go to the hospital because they had heard that the Empyrean’s were doing experiments on humans there but they had no choice. At the hospital it was decided that she was to have a C-section. The serum that they used to put her out was a blood red, and they were assured that it would not hurt Louise or the baby. However it did have a rare side effect on the baby now she had hair that was the color of the serum blood red.
Her parents lived on a street called Usher there was a collection of tents, and tarps that were set up and these were the different families that lived there. Her Dad James and her would go out daily and dumpster dive searching for food and other things for their small family. It was just the two of them now searching because her Mother had made a foolish decision though her hear was in the right place. They had heard that life in Europe was easier, that there were more opportunities for work there. So she went to one of the most viscous gangs in the area and borrowed the money to buy passports to get out of the country. Unfortunately the man that she gave the money to for the passports took it and ran. The gang then beat her up when she didn’t have the money to repay the loan during which one of the members had a knife and cut her deeply in her thigh. She healed from her other injuries but not from the knife wound it became infected and she had a raging fever. If she didn’t get help she would die but they didn’t not have the money to take her to the hospital.
The Alien had auction blocks set up in different cities. This is where people could sell themselves for their families to help provide for them, or hope to find a better life than what they had there. Or as on most occasions it would be a parent taking one of their own children there to sell; against the child’s will. There was no telling what would happen to you once you were sold. A person could find themselves in a better situation, they could be bought to be a servant in a house hold, they had to take the chance that that household would be fair or they could be brutal. The other chance they would be taking would to be sold as a sex slave.
Jenna felt she had no choice she had to get help for her mother. She knew if her mother knew what she was doing sick or not Louise would drag herself to the auction blocks to fetch her back. Jenna made her Dad promise not to tell her mother until several hours later. He was to tell Louise that Jenna was out searching for food and supplies. Her Dad didn’t want her to do it really as well but he didn’t want to loose his wife either. He finally agreed with Jenna.
At the block she he sold for and huge amount of money more that she ever expected. Before hand she had been met and alien named Carl that had her bathed and dressed in an elegant gown. She was taken aboard a ship where their Addy the woman that was watch after the “cargo” of six women that had been bought buy the King as potential wives. During the trip she found Carl once again. It seems that Carl has multiple jobs for the King and he was the one that had her bought at the block. However he was going to help her; Carl taught her the Empytean’s speak the language, how to read it and tried to teacher her how to write it but it was a little more difficult to write. Jenna wanted to proved that she was more than just what the King want which was something to play with in the bed. She wanted to she that she was smart and could do other things as well. She had survived in the harshest parts of the city she was going to be herself and prove that she could be more.
Now the question is how is that going to work out. How is the King going to take her straight forward attitude, especially when this race thinks that humans are weak and spineless. How was the Queen going to react to the young woman in her presence and the different attitude that the King was starting to show. The there comes the pending war, the assassination attempts, not only on the King but on Jenna as well. Will she make it out of this thing alive, or will there be a war that breaks out and the Kind killed in the process.
See what I said this is not just a romance story that is full of nothing but sex, sex, sex; but a very, very good story that is built up and created and given life. One that will truly have you guessing all they way to the end. If you have not read one of her books start now. If you have before I trust me you will not be disappointed.
Alpha Alien Male🐉 Space Adventure and Adult Romance💞
This book is about Jenna💃💋, a young human woman who sells herself to the Empyrean King👑, Darin, also a dragon🐉 shifter. She does it so her mother can have money for medical needs, back on an alien conquered dystopian 🌎Earth.
The book took a long time to get to The alien planet🌍 and the relationship between Jenna💃💋 and Darin👑🍆⛲. It is also similar in some ways to the book" Sold to the Emperor ". The covers of these two books are outstanding!
ARC Received from Booksprout🌱 I also got the book with KU.
I received this book for Free to Give My True & Honest Review..
Hollie Hutchins has written another really good light easy to read Syfy story where 'aliens' had went to earth to take over different areas & here we have The Empyrean's take over the city of San Francisco, where the people from there who hasn't got careers all live on the streets & scavenge anything they can get from the bins but to make money parents sell off family members or the people themselves sell themselves & it's here we see that Jenna SFC67 does that to get as much money as she can to pay for her mother to be treated in hospital & for her parents to do they feel fit to do with the rest of the money. So it's when Jenna & the other girls she meets in the ship that they've been brought for the King Darin, but Jenna decides whilst the others wonder around she wants to learn all about the Empyreans & their language & it's when they're settled on their new planet & meet Darin & we see that things aren't as easy going & relaxed in the castle when things start happening....

This was a quick read but still good. At times I connected great with Jenna because she was smart, strong and caring. Darin was at times harder to connect with just because he seems a little less alpha male but yet he is also at the same time a character. The story itself is fabulous. It is different and has a fresh quality about it. The writing was well developed and has some outstanding support characters. It is definitely worth reading.

I'm not sure if this is a outlier but this story had no character development and the spey was full of inconsistencies. People who were full of malic towards each other suddenly work well with them (queen Nori and Addy). Such importance was placed on Jenna being Pure that once they did the deed there was no mention of her not being pure, much less that first time felt like it was thrust into the story. Overall, I'm glad I only borrowed this one. I'll give the author another chance maybe one of her other books are better.
Something about this one really got me and I couldn’t put it down. A bossy alien king and human woman that would do anything to take care of her parents. I just really enjoyed the characters. And the queen really developed by the end of the story. The other woman where great side characters too. There is danger, a mystery enemy and romance. There is no cheating and I promise a happily ever after.
At times I found the story to be choppy. It moves fast paced from one scene to the next which can be confusing at times. The love scenes arent over the top explicit. I wish there was more development between Darin and Jenna, but it was still a fun quick read. I like Jenna and how she makes a bond with Nori and Vare and I liked Jenna's personality. She was noble in wanting to help her mother and then later one of the other wives.
I wish I could have made it to the end of the book to give a more thorough review but I could not. There’s something off to me about Jenna’s character that I just couldn’t jive with at all. At first she seemed like a strong female lead then she was whiny then she was judgmental then she has a weird connection with the king. It’s just off. Like there’s glimpses in her character that aren’t fully explored then written off or not fully developed.
. I was intrigued by the world Ms. Hutchins built after aliens took over. The removal of borders, the ending of surnames, and the harsh realities of the humans who refused to assimilate. Jenna was an interesting character, but there were mysterious i felt were presented as being important, and then left unsolved or unrevealed. I also found her romance with King Darian to be luke warm. I love Ms. Hutchins writing , but this one wasn't a favorite.
But they weren’t very passionate. This book is well plotted and written. The characters are so realistic emotionally. It’s a page turner until the end and I know the author wanted to create a story with moving parts. I appreciate that so this is a cool story. The first paragraph will have you commenting aloud! I will read some of her other ones too.
Each chapter was so short and didnt have a smooth transition that it left me confused most times. I mean, when did the Darin and jenna supposedly fell in love? What even make her so special? There wasn't a lot of character development or dialogue between them. The sexy times were super disappointing. I didnt like it. Struggled finishing it. And definitely not very keen of him their weird polyamorous relationship, even if it's an alien custom.
This book has absolutely no substance. You are thrown right into a story like you’re supposed to already know what’s going on. On top of that the leads meets the king once and she’s suddenly the best thing that’s ever happened to him? The characters were bland and underdeveloped. This book is a waste of time.
Really well done despite the strange topic/storyline. There were many unexpected twists along with a few expected or slightly obvious ones as well. Slightly disappointed with the fairly abrupt ending and I want more of these characters in another book now. Will for sure go read others by this author!
I couldn’t finish this book it was that bad. It reminded me of Sweet Valley High but with aliens!! Snarky modern slang for a supposedly futuristic human world with aliens from all over but they are all speaking like a valley girl!! Like totally!! Yuck! Don’t waste your time.
Sooo, this is supposed to be some sort of sci-fi shifter romance, I guess? The hero is a dragon shifter that has nothing to do with the story, at all. There was no romance. The love scenes were vague and bland at best. I was expecting this amazing strong heroines for got more bland. 🤦🏻♀️
This was a fantastic tale of romance and adventure in a far off world. What begins as one young woman's struggles for survival in a hostile environment on earth quickly turns into a amazing story that leads to a journey into space that brings her to another planet.
An interesting rags to riches storyline with an otherworldly touch. It included surprising twists and turns, danger, scandel, and love. I really was on the edge of my seat guessing all the way. The characters were well developed and full of passion and love. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.

Jenna sells herself into slavery to the Emyreans to help her family. Now Jenna is off to meet Kin Darin and serve him anyway he sees fit. Fast-paced read with great characters, and plenty of steam. I liked the story and wish it had been just a bit longer. A great read!
I’m a little confused at where this book was taking me. There was so much info that was touched on that I was surprised the “bad guy” was who it was. The steamy scenes weren’t even that steamy. This book was a solid C. I wouldn’t pay for it.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the highly spirited heroin and the vulnerability of the king. I was quite surprised that the story actually seemed as plausible as could be expected in a sci-fi fiction romance. I would recommend this author.
I stumbled upon this book in the KU options and was delightfully surprised by the content. The book was incredibly well written and transported me into a different world. I will definitely be trying another one of her books next!
I really liked this book. Loved it even. It only got 4 stars because of the ending....spoiler alert...you can’t tell us she’s pregnant then end the book!!! We need more...at least I do. Anyways rant over. I love her and all her books. Keep them coming!!
I liked the story but wished it could have more developed as far as fleshing out the characters. Not a lot of detail on what the individual looked like but I otherwise enjoyed this story and plot lines.
This book was WAY TOO FAST paced, and despite that it was boring as hell too. Characters acted in ways that didn’t make sense and the world building was 100% unoriginal and complicated in areas that it shouldn’t be. Characters also fell supper flat.
I don't know why Darin thought Addy wouldn't be jealous of any woman he paid attention to. I though for a moment it was Nori who wanted Jenna dead. Happy ending and happy family, I love it.
It started off great but then the storyline went way too fast for my liking. One minute she is being sold. The next she is in love. Somewhere in there he transformed. It was an okay read but really needed more details.
Did I like it? Yes, parts of it. It's such a great premise, with the promise of greatness. And the it fizzles, and sputters out again like a fire that just won't catch.
Jenna story was amazing the slow burn was great to read but when it got cooking it was on fire ..from shifting to hot sexy time to ripping out jugulars this was a great 5 star page turner
