Rate this book

This book is ridiculous trash.

That's not an attack -- the author is upfront about how this is a kinky fantasy and doesn't reflect any actual understanding of how multiple personality disorder works. It's 97% indifferent to the trauma of people who suffer childhood abuse or have mental health issues. Shrinks and lawyers sleep with their clients, sadomasochists are turned on by being punched, if people get drunk they probably wanted to be taken advantage of... Just be aware going in, this is what you're getting!

I'll end by saying that that the author makes a very positive point about non-romantic love being just as valid and deep as the romantic kind.

A lot of yaoi manga deals with rape, incest, coercion or pedophilia, topics that make a lot of American readers uneasy. So guess what? This book depicts all of those taboos, with the nifty additions of psychological disorder and the endangerment of a child via underage drinking. Ho boy.

This manga is a tough sell. There’s genuine affection here and the eroticism that you expect from adult yaoi. But when one character experiences it by getting love from his two alternate personalities, that puts a whole new spin on “loving yourself”.

Yu is the main personality. He’s a shy, sweet, gentle and virginal (in his heart, anyway) florist. His two multiple personalities are Kaname, a level-headed lawyer by day, and Ryo, a flashy, tattoo-loving playboy who has one-night stands during the nocturnal shift. You wonder how it is that Yu isn’t exhausted. Things get really wacky when all of them fall for three very different men. All three of Yu’s lovers know about the other two; it’s amazing how well they get along with the situation.

It’s kooky and incredible; I’m not a psychologist but I’m fairly sure this isn’t how to deal with multiple personalities. The weird plot is almost enough to make you overlook the queasiness engendered by the taboo material. This makes this manga really unique in terms of themes, love interests and storyline. If you can stomach the more unsettling elements, give this manga a try. If you prefer less controversial material, it would be advisable to look elsewhere.

I haven't read too many multiple personality themed manga, but when I do they always have very interesting storylines. This one is a man who has three personalities, each one of them takes a boyfriend. Lots of comedy, drama and amusement sprinkled with a little bit of darkness.
