All Cats Are Introverts

Rate this book
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of I Could Pee on This , Francesco Marciuliano presents this humorous and all too relatable book written from the perspective of some pensive, sometimes intense, but nonetheless insightful pets.

Have you ever been labeled as "antisocial," "shy," or "lost in your own thoughts" because you don't realize someone's been calling your name 148 times? The cats understand. All Cats Are Introverts  is a collection of self-reflective poetry from cats that clearly shows them to be the insightful, often alert, crowd-averse, personally engaging, probably napping-as-we-speak introverts of the animal kingdom. Enjoy this completely relatable and hilarious book, and perhaps you will soon see the cat—and even yourself—in a whole new light.

I am a dog person but this?! This is so much my personality as much as I want to ignore it. And reading this hilarious yet lines that do speak a lot of truths makes me actually aware that I am an introvert that can relate so much to that of a cat's behaviour.
This short book of short lines and cat pictures simply amazed me.
I love this one in particular:
'Books
I can lose myself
In a novel
I can be absorbed
In a short story
I can be immersed whole
In adventure
In history
In romance
And mystery
I can see now
That I'm stuck behind your bookcase'

116 pages filled with cat poems and real cat pictures!
Seriously, why cannot I love cats more?
I do realise I don't need to because I am a cat inside.

ALL CATS ARE INTROVERTS is a meow a minute, told through poems paired with gorgeous feline photos. So apt any could have been penned by my aloof Gracie.

ON ONE’S OWN
My time
My time alone
My time alone thoughts
Of my ass
On your remote
As you barge into my room
Screaming, “Where the @#$% is it?!”
As I sit on what is now my couch
Learning to value myself
I think my left cheek
just changed the channel.

I loved the author’s previous books, I COULD PEE ON THIS, I COULD PEE ON THIS TOO, and CLAW THE SYSTEM, and this newest made me howl.

MISSED THE DAYS
Will I miss the days
Not spent outside?
Not spent with others?
Not spent with you?
Will I see such days
As missed opportunities?
As vanished chances?
As lost time?
Sometimes
Another time
Not this time
For today I discovered
I can stand on your flat-screen
At least for three minutes
before the wall mount gives way

Some of the humor may seem crass, but I think it’s hysterical and so telling of how cats act and probably think. I’ve had seven of the little mischief makers. I should know.

“a poem on
the Aquarium I
just brought down to
the ground, killing eight
prized fish and covering
the new rug in filtered
water, shattered glass,
colorful gravel
and one small scuba diver.
Oh great.
A conversation starter.”

Amen, my feline friend! Five paws up!

You know when you're feeling a bit sad and not really in the mood to read? Well, that's when you need to pick up this adorable book. It's both funny and relatable. I couldn't stop myself from laughing at pretty every poem. It makes you feel understand and laugh at the same time, I don't know what else you can possibly need. It was just such a good time! I really liked that there were cat pictures, made the entire experience even more enjoyable (who doesn't like cat pics???????? I need to know for science).

This book had me laughing the entire time. In addition to the gorgeous photography, the poems are quite clever and often contain a little twist at the end. If you need a smile and love cats, then give yourself a treat and buy this book.

At first I thought it was a funny book about silly cat poems. But then I realized we’re very similar, cats and I. I relate to them and they relate to me. I am but a more complex cat can’t you see.

My sister got this for my husband for Christmas (we did it early since we won't see them in Dec). This was funny and a nice way for pass some time. As usual, some poems were much better then others.

I received an advance review copy from Andrews McMeel Publishing through Netgalley; all opinions are my own and honest.

2.5 stars.

The concept — "cats are hilariously relatable to human introverts" — is solid, and I really enjoyed the derpy cat photos throughout the book. However, the poems were pretty formulaic, especially for free verse: the vast majority relied on parallelism and ended with a punchline "twist", usually riffing on one of maybe five already-overused jokes about cat behavior. The lack of punctuation also made it difficult to tell whether I had reached the end of the poem since ADE only let me view one page at a time, which threw off my reading.

Additionally, knowing that this is supposed to be viewed through a cat's perspective made some of the poems just ... weird? I know people tend to personify pets, but I just have a hard time believing that a cat would really think some of these things.

Marciuliano's latest poetry collection straddles the lines between philosophical treaty and sardonic humor. For the record, I did not know such a line existed before I read this book.

As a person who shares a house with six felines, I am always in awe of the author's keen eye and how he translates his observations into poetic bon mots.

I got an e-arc of this book via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

As an introvert, a cat lover, and a former literary writer, I completely loved this! As an ordinary reader, I definitely adored it!

This book was fun, entertaining, and to be honest, it was quite educational, too.

The author managed to capture what was it like to be a cat and an introvert at the same time. He made it funny but also quite illuminating. I never related to anything more quickly as an introvert.

I also loved the writing style. Most of them were simple, short poems but they pack quite a punch. And of course, the pictures were lovely!

Overall, this read was enjoyable and delightful!

I enjoyed reading All Cats Are Introverts because I felt like it resembles them perfectly. I’ve ways loved cats and believed that they show their love in their own way. The poems that Marciuliano wrote are relatable until the end where he throws in a twist that is written frim a cat’s perspective. That part always threw me off because it was just a little jarring and sudden.

A very clever collection of poems. If you’re generally anxious or consider yourself an introvert, you may indeed find these poems told from the perspectives of cats EXTREMELY relatable.

All Cats Are Introverts by Francesco Marciuliano is a delightful poem collection about the introverted nature of cats. Most of the poems are funny and/or aptly depict cats in all their feline aspects. Don’t expect the most epic of poems, some are rather formulaic, going one way, then ending with a twist, but one doesn’t buy this kind of book for the epic poetry. As a cat lover (I’d love to say “cat owner” but I’d be lying, since my cat totally owns me) some of the poems were very relatable. Being rather introverted myself, some also felt quite relatable to me as a person, which was kind of the point of this collection. The poems are interlaced with beautiful cat photos, those alone make this little book worth your while. Overall, a fun little book that I’d recommend to cat lovers everywhere!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The cover is perfect! Just like a cat to hide its head and consider that no one can see the rest of it.

I might argue with the concept that cats are introverts, they certainly don’t like to communicate a lot of the time. However, I think they do it just to frustrate the humans that deal with them. If you notice, they are perfectly willing to communicate at inconvenient times, such as 3:00 a.m. when you’re trying to sleep, but not at 3:00 p.m. when you are trying to find out what they want and why they keep knocking things off the shelves.

The pictures in here are great. I love all cat pictures though. The poems are okay as long as you aren’t looking for any sort of recognizable rhyming pattern or rhythm. It’s definitely free verse time. It’s what they say that really counts. They cover a wide range of things that go through a cat’s mind, or might if you could understand a cat’s mind. I think it’s really clever the way Mr. Marciuliano has captured the cat’s voice in these poems. The sarcasm that cats have, the superiority. The little bit of neediness at times, too. And their total lack of regret when they destroy something of yours whether it be a $5 mug or a $500 sofa. I highly recommend this book as a coffee table book for any cat lover. If I had a coffee table I’d buy it in hardcover when it comes out in October and put it there to share with family and friends. My cat would probably sleep on it!

I genuinely love the title of All Cats Are Introverts by Francesco Marciuliano. The book, however, isn't really as great as its title. And, to be fair, I don't exactly expect a lot from books like this. I've said it in the past, but they are ultimately the sort of books you peruse in the card section at Walmart or Target or while bored at the doctor's office. They're not the sort of books I would ever buy for myself, and therein lies the level of value I get from them. Honestly, this book really isn't even very memorable.

I'm sure that I laughed a few times at some moderately clever commentary on how cats can relate to introverted people. I'm sure that several of the poems felt vaguely relatable. But the fact of the matter is that this isn't a book I recall well nor is it one that I care to read again. And sure, I could say that I found it somewhat entertaining when I read it, but reading All Cats Are Introverts truly didn't do anything for me in the end. And I'm left wondering what was the benefit of reading it in the first place?

It's not a bad book by any means, but it's definitely not a good one either. And while I can appreciate the moderately amusing pieces that I'm sure I enjoyed when I read it, that appreciation doesn't truly last. Thus the book just becomes one in a long list of writing that I read but will never remember.

This cute little gift book from the author of "I Could Pee on This" links introverts with the animals who most resemble them: cats. Each poem in the book is narrated by a cat (and sometimes even written on a keyboard with cat feet)The humorous poems it includes focus on the joy cats (and introverts) find during their alone time by exploring such feline fare as: sitting on the remote, getting stuck behind the refrigerator, self care, sparkling poo, and destroying the fish tank. Introverts will enjoy being understood and cat lovers will enjoy the many photographs that are matched with the poems! A perfect book to put in a gift basket for your favorite introvert or cat owner.

Cats are delicate creatures. They give lots of love (even when it’s from across the room, or from a different room, or a different block), but it costs them. They need time to recharge. They need peace and quiet. They need to throw up a hairball on your new sheets. A really big hairball. But you know what? It’s called self-care, and they’re worth it.

All Cats Are Introverts is the latest volume of cat poetry from Francesco Marciuliano, author of I Could Pee on This and Claw the System, among several others. Accompanied by adorable photos of lovable cats and kittens, All Cats Are Introverts is a book of cat poems about being on one’s own, inner peace, someone who gets you, trying something new, being social (or choosing not to), and birthdays, and so many other topics.

The poems are moving and insightful, offering a true glimpse into the soul of a cat, so humans can genuinely understand about getting stuck behind the refrigerator or falling into the dip that you put out for the guests. These poems get into the deepest thoughts of cats, and lets them share their experiences with their people.

Cat fans of all ages will love and laugh with these short poems about all the complexities of being a feline, from deciding on whether to go out or come in, pushing glasses off the table (a clear sign you need to buy better alcohol), staring at the humans while they use the bathroom, attacking the ugly Christmas ornament, chatting with the birds outside the window, or eating someone’s birthday cake.

Perfect as a gift but also lots of fun just for curling up and reading yourself, All Cats Are Introverts is a whimsical, moving, hilarious, heartfelt glimpse into the hearts and minds of the cats we love, even when they act just a little bit like jerks. Highly recommended!

Friends of mine in the United States at one point had two cats. They identified one as an extravert and the other an introvert. The extravert used to almost speak in sentences, whilst the introvert essentially hid. Naturally, I have no idea whether this labelling was actually accurate, although it was plausible from observing them, and there is some evidence that extraversion and introversion are cross-species attributes, depending on definitions of course.

Francesco Marciuliano contends that all cats are introverts. His book demonstrates this via pages of photos of cats in various situations, accompanied by some appropriate words for the context. Not all of this works, but the best of it reminds me of cats I've had or been associated with and so there were a few laughs and wry smiles. I like the way cats go about things, although not as destructively as depicted here. I did try and teach my cat to read at one point, and around the same time a city bookshop used to sell bowls for cats with a book rack attached, which greatly appealed, although I never bought one.

20 minutes of great enjoyment.

It also reminded me of a children's publication a few decades back called My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes, which was bought for my mother, whose cat did precisely that

Just because cats don’t jump up into your lap and become social with you doesn’t mean that they are strange. The reason is very simple. Cats are like some people: they are introverts. They prefer to sit back and watch what is going rather than participate.

Cats laugh at the dog watching the door waiting for the owner to return. Cats simply don’t care if they do or not.

Cats enjoy hurling up a hairball in the middle of your bed. Oh well. Too bad.

This book contains poems about cats and the destructive things they do such as: pushing items off counters; walking across your keyboard; and how they shove your wallet and keys under the bed sending you on a hunt for them.

So, no matter how many times you invite a cat to sit with you. they are just happy to be invited and they plan to stay right where they are.

This is a delightful book that had me smiling and nodding my head. As the mom to three adorable kitties, I had to laugh at how the author points out that cats don’t appear to have a conscience. They do things their way and you just have to accept it. Love kitties!! Enjoy!

Princess Fuzzypants here: Although we cats are not noted for our poetry, it is clear from this book that we are very talented. We all know we kitties are humorous naturally but who knew we could write such funny verse. I, for one, am impressed. My humans were equally intrigued.
Filled with some quiet smiles and some laugh out loud sections, not unlike my blog, this gives the humans in our lives the inside look at how we see the world. Of course, the way we see the world is correct. If it differs from our humans, it is because they are wrong.
The reader who is owned by a cat will recognize many similar stories to the ones they have experienced. While I would not make it required reading, I would suggest it highly for the cat lover. Even those who are not poetry lovers will find the verses entertaining.
Four purrs and two paws up.
