Call me nostalgic, but I love this book. This is a coffee table book a quick read, though not as quick as I first thought. The artwork is great, the summarised saga so far (towards the end of the Last Jedi), character and location descriptions are good, but most importantly, it is narrated by Luke Skywalker.

Reading this, I am suddenly a kid again watching Star Wars for the first time. I love all the "secret" notes and pull outs as well as the secret messages in the Jedi language to be translated. Had great fun with my boys doing this.

A fine reading about the Order of the Jedi told by Luke Skywalker. Fine explanation about de founding of the Order and their ongoing strife against the Dark Side of the Force and her followers: the Sith. Luke refers to his own life as a Jedi, his study of the Force, his hope to found a new Jedi Order and his failure to guide his nephew to the light side. He ponders on his exile on Anch-To and his own strife to disconnect himself from the influence of the Force, but with Rey's arrival he must admit he has done wrong. Rey's arrival and her need for guidance makes Luke aware of his own connection with the Force as a Jedi. His decision to be the last Jedi needs a new point of view, because Rey makes him aware that there will always species who will be guide by the power of the Force.

This book was written from the point of view of Luke Skywalker and was, in essence, like one of the Jedi texts we saw in the sequel trilogy. A collection of knowledge, mostly about the Jedi and the Force, but with some sections devoted to the Sith and the Dark side.

There were many different sections to this book. From short bios of some well known Jedi Masters, such as Qui-Gon, Luminara and Shaak Ti. There were also bios of other notable Jedi, who were not masters, such as Ahsoka. In addition, topics such as Jedi training, Force techniques, temples and lightsabers were also talked about.

Topics featuring Sith knowledge included notable, recent Sith, from the prequel era on, temples and Dark Side Force techniques.

The illustrations in this book were beautiful. Vibrant and colorful, they brought each topic, or person to life in a vivid way. In addition, there were also pop up elements, removeable cards and other added elements that offered a dimension to the book.

My one complaint, is Luke's "voice" in this book, and it was my complaint with his character in the sequel trilogy. In one sense he wrote as a historian, but in another it was nothing but "my failures" and "oh woe is me" for the mistakes I made. I never felt his character was well represented in the sequel movies, not until Crait, and this book, in a lot of ways, is more of that.

The book does not take into account plot lines from The Rise of Skywalker, or the Mandalorian, it ends around the time of The Last Jedi.

Overall, this is a gorgeous, entertaining book about the Jedi and their history.

This is a really good book, it has awesome memorabilia in it like pocket jackets and hand written letters from the Jedi’s.

Now that I own this, I don’t feel like I need to buy Jedi vs Sith anymore because I feel this book has answered all questions about the Jedi’s and Sith I needed to know.

5/5 for this book. The only reason why I’m still interested in Jedi vs Sith, is because that book has an entire generation of timelines based on the Star Wars legacies.

This specific book does touch up on Kylo Ren & Rey. & I really appreciate that!

1. Stop re-using book names Secrets of the Jedi. A little creativity please.

2. This book somehow manages to not only make Luke seem even dumber in The Last Jedi, but also manages to smear his failure onto Yoda, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Anakin. Don't know why they decided to taint the legacy of those characters with Ryan's terrible story telling, but there you go. There is now no legacy character left unscathed.

3. Star Wars Legends Luke > Jake Skywalker

1. Visuals

The illustrations are gorgeous. The art is so colorful and full of light somehow without appearing busy or tacky. The interactive elements are also a nice touch and I was glad to get some more practice reading Aurebesh. That's the only reason this book got 2 stars instead of 1.

The choice to use the vintage-paper-look in my opinion was the wrong one. Star Wars universe was always about rusting old metal with peeling paint, and dents and rust, glowing screens, and cold imperial shiny black and gray metal. Vintage paper? We already got that in Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean and dozen other worlds. Star Wars has such a unique look, why not use that? As I said, it looks gorgeous, but it doesn't look Star Wars.

2. Content

Oh my. We're doomed. I don't want to blame the author because it may just be the way things are now but this whole book gets the Force so wrong it's painful to read for anyone who saw the first 6 movies.

They were so blinded by their own light they let the darkness creep in and take control

"They were such incredibly good people they didn't notice the bad people and allowed them to take control." Does that make any sense?

One wrong choice, no matter how well intended, can send a Jedi down that dark path.

No it can't. Dark side is not about making a well-intentioned mistake. Have these people ever seen a Star Wars movie? Anakin's path to the dark side was always selfish and greedy, never well-intentioned. He slaughtered a whole village of Tuskens in rage and revenge, later showing Padme he was fully aware what he had done was wrong. Mass murder is not a mistake. Nor is it well intended. But even that wasn't enough to turn him to darkness. It took so much more, like killing younglings, taking part in Jedi genocide, and trying to murder his pregnant wife.

Other Jedi made well intentioned mistakes, and none of them were ever close to the dark side.

'The Secrets of the Jedi' is a fantastic and quick read for everyone of all ages but it is primarily for a younger reader.

The book if filled with Jedi secrets, lore, and even gives basic information on key Jedi many already know and love. The pages have a textured feel that doesn't make the book seem cheap and even has small pocket and fold out pages with more fun tidbits of information.

As an adult I still found joy in breezing through the pages and this make an excellent edition to my Star Wars shelf.

Coyer Winter Read With Friends

This is a very beautiful laid out book. The narrator is Luke Skywalker, he guides readers through his personal life and death as seen in Episode 8 but also the lives of other Jedi. I'm very torn about books like these it is a nice addition to my Star Wars shelves, it doesn't add any new information and because Episode 9 hasn't been released it feels incomplete without having Kylo Ren's fate.

A quality retelling of some of the facets of Star Wars from the perspective of Luke Skywalker. Having to use the aurebesh translator on every day to find a quote that we already probably know by heart was slightly unnecessary and annoying. Does bring in some connections to the tv shows, books and comic books, which is nice, but nothing major. The book didn’t really offer anything new though, so you can probably skip.

This is some great insight which I believe a lot of people might skip over, being it's a children's book. The art and pop up art is amazing. This really gives us an amazing perception to Luke when Rey leaves to try to turn Kylo and before Luke dies in TLJ. That small amount of time where he wrote some of these passages and his revelation and breakthrough just makes that moment at the end of TLJ even that much more powerful.

It was a wonderful read into what the Jedi should be seen as. Narrated by Luke Skywalker (canon), we get a more cynical view than what Luke’s notes in The Jedi Path book portray. It’s an all too telling of how different Luke’s path was between Legends and Canon. While the book itself is meant for kids and new Star Wars fans, I think it is still a nice read from everyone who loves Star Wars. The cheat sheet for Aurabesh is pretty nice, too.

This is a lot like the other books The Jedi Path and the Book of Sith, but in the updated canon with the sequels (well, ep 7 and 8 anyway) and this is purely "written" by Luke himself. So for some it's redundant, but it's still a great introduction to to what and who the Jedi and sith are, their powers and abilities and a little bit of history.

A book written by the legend Luke Skywalker himself. It's an overview of all that it means to be a Jedi, from how to use the Force, what the Force is, about the Jedi of the Old Republic, the dark side, lightsabers, and more. Fun pop-ups and pull-outs included. A must-have for any true lover of Star Wars.

This was so awesome. I loved learning a bit more about the various light and dark side powers, and hearing some stories about the most famous Jedi masters. However, I kinda wish this was published after the Rise of Skywalker, that way it could include Leia's training, Kylo's return to the light side along with force healing and cloning.

This is written from the perspective of Luke Skywalker as kind of a “Force Journal”, ending just before his sacrifice in The Last Jedi. Whilst presenting nothing new, it connects all trilogies nicely and is a decent little hour read for fans.

A book about the Jedi narrated by Luke Skywalker? So much potential unrealized! Like almost of the new canon, authors shy away from doing a deeper narrative dive that connect us to the characters we love.

Nothing much for new information here, but it's a nice book. I always like when reference books draw from all over the saga, not just the mainline movies. I also like that this one had an Aurebesh translation card and a quote or two on each page to translate.

This is a really nifty source. It's a bit dated as it was published before The Rise of Skywalker and before The High Republic, but it still has a lot of great info. It's fun that it's written like a letter from Luke Skywalker.

An interesting Star Wars book on the Jedi and Sith as "written" by Luke Skywalker shortly before the end of The Last Jedi. Contains interactive little pullouts.

I liked the book as it provides great summary of information scattered across different sources. Also, the text translation challenges from Basic to English were fun.
