Chelsea grew up in rural New York, surrounded by cows and an appreciation for small farms. However, her real love affair with food began during a year abroad in Turkey, which sparked a passion for both food and history, as well as leading her to a degree in Classical History. A lifelong artist and fantasy fan, she greatly enjoys foreign languages, treasure hunting, and all things honey. She currently lives in Boston with several other cooks, and even more eaters, including one very happy Manx Cat.

Yep. I read a cookbook. Cover to cover. Repeatedly. No I do not cook. Also, I do not play Overwatch, nor do I have any intention to start playing Overwatch.

So what made me pick this up? I have absolutely no idea.

Am I glad I did? HELL YES.

So, regardless of my lack of cooking ability (and lack of desire to cultivate those potential abilities), I do peruse a startling number of cookbooks. They're shiny, what can I say? This one caught my eye for a number of reasons, but the biggest one is that it is the only international cookbook I've ever seen that is truly international. Usually, there's a country with far more weight than the others, even in cookbooks that try to be balanced an fair.

Those cookbooks are made by people, sometimes even people in cooking franchises, but still just people with tastes and mindsets that have automatic biases. So uneven weights happen. Whether it's Italy getting a couple extra, or China, or France, there's always a slight slant. Sometimes that slant is even found in nothing but how the 'other country' dishes are all seasoned slightly wrong (like a slant Italian cookbook way underdoing it with the cayenne or turmeric in a dish from Marrakech).

But Overwatch is a franchise that's built differently and its fandom will NOT tolerate any BS. So each character, from each country gets equal weight and their dishes are all genuinely authentic to the real-world cultures of their fictional backstories. It is EXCELLENT.

Even down to the way things are categorized, there's elegance and balance. Like 'picked dishes' has a tab, under which deliciously genuine borscht is put up right next to perfectly authentic kimchi. Admittedly, I'm not perfectly nuanced in my understanding of he actual degrees of seasoning that go into dishes (read: non-cooking, Irish-bred white girl with nooooo tolerance for spice), However, I am more than just topically familiar with the kitchens of my Hispanic, Chinese, Korean, and Ukrainian friends. While I won't eat the food their mothers make, I will watch them cook until my eyes bleed (and with an eidetic memory I retain most of it). So I cannot guarantee the taste will be perfectly authentic, but I can say that all of my experience and research leads me to believe that the recipes in this are accurate.

If you're ever in the market for a cookbook, I HIGHLY recommend you pick this one up. And if you happen to have kids who play, it's a great way to con them into eating both vegetables and things they've never heard of before. ^_~

I had no idea what to expect from an Overwatch-themed cookbook, but I ended up really loving it. Aside from picking up a few small details about the characters within the dish descriptions, it was also cool to learn a little bit about some of the foods and the places they come from. There's also a good balance of desserts, main dishes, and drinks. Would readily recommend to any fans of the game.

I hugely enjoyed this book - it helped me explore new foods from my favourite characters and practice cooking, preparing food, etc. as this is something I've needed to continuously work on for my job.
Fair warning though, most of the drinks in this book are alcoholic so more research into substitutes would be required if you can't/don't want to have alcohol in these drinks. (Off the top of my head, I think Brigitte's is the only one that's non-alcoholic but if I'm wrong feel free to correct me).
Overall, great book; only issue I have with it is that I wish the Junkertown characters had more variety in their foods. Would've been amazing if, for example, Roadhog had a main dish that related to his indigenous culture instead of only having a light snack and drink.

Monroe-Cassel is hands-down my favorite cook, and after the WoW and Hearthstone cookbook I had a dream of getting an Overwatch one from her. And here it is! The quality is the usual: she just pours her heart and soul into the lore and food research and it shows how much care this book was made with.

Every hero (except for Sigma, who got released too late for this) gets at least three dishes: a main meal, a dessert and a drink, some even get breakfast (which was my favorite part.) Also I love that due to the heroes different nationalities we get a multi-national cookbook. Added bonus: there are a lot of gluten-free options.

Yes I did read a cookbook. Yes it is inspired by my favorite game. Am I ever going to try these recipes yes I am. For some drink I have to think of something else then Alcohol that is in it, but I'll think of something.

If they ever decide to make a part 2 of the Overwatch cookbook. Then im kinda curious on what they are going to put for Sigma since he is Dutch. I don't hope for anything Stampot related Items.

The dishes seem so yummy

Having never played the game the ethos and context of the recipes lacked depth for me (mine not the book's fault). The book is well presented and the recipes do span the world, which is a plus. If you did play the game and the recipes tied into it and your friends also played the game it would be fun to serve them this food.

Top shelf Overwatch themed cookbook with fantastic dishes from around the world. There are several per character and every one of them look a-mei-zing :) The attention to detail and thoughtful touches alone would make this a fantastic coffee table piece, but ours is already at home in the kitchen.
