Fly With Me

Rate this book
She set out to explore the world and found love along the way.

Vivian Ng is as experienced as flight attendants come. Taking charge and getting stuff done has always been her MO. When her father pushes her to give up her Asian routes in favor of flights to Europe, she’s nervous about the change, but her skills have never failed her before.

Flight attendant Marco Chang is charming and he knows it. Growing up as an immigrant with absentee parents, he learned how to win people over with a smile and a sexy accent. But being popular never meant his heart was available.

When Vivian and Marco find themselves working the same flight to Rome, Marco is immediately smitten. Vivian is smart, competent, kicks ass and takes names. Vivian’s not as impressed. Marco’s cute, sure, but he’s helpful to a fault and she doesn’t need some guy telling her how to do her job.

As they hop back and forth across the Atlantic, the romance of European cities works its magic. But if there’s any hope of their budding attraction taking off, she’ll need to let go and he’ll need to let her in.

Content This book contains a scene of sexual harassment.

Check out my full review on my blog.

If you're looking for the cutest romance ever, pick up this tremendously amazing book by Hudson Lin.

The always fabulous Tamsen Parker introduced me to Hudson Lin, and one thousands thanks for her! Hudson Lin has been a recent favourite of mine so I jumped at the chance to pick up another book by this incredible author.

Fly With Me is an adorable, short novella by Hudson Lin following two flight attendants in Europe. Vivian Ng is a headstrong, feisty lady who can hold up her own. Marco Chang is a sexy, well intended man who forgets he met Vivian years ago. When their lives collide, they collide hard!

I love that this book features diverse characters - Asian-Canadians, a bisexual man, Asians from Peru, just to name a few. This book doesn't force the diversity upon you, it just is. It's natural, which is absolutely lovely. It felt like the world I live in - there are many diverse people all around, and we get to follow the story of two of them.

Vivian being so head strong made me relate to her on a very personal level. She loves her parents, wants to make sure they are taken care of and doesn't want anybody telling her what to do. She butts heads with Marco a fair bit, but they end up building quite the friendship. Add a dash of romance, and this book just screams "BRIAR YOU NEED TO READ THIS".

Overall, I loved this sweet book! It's short enough to binge, lovely enough to fall in love with and fits wonderfully on my always decreasing space on my Kindle (haha...whoops!).

I highly recommend this book if you love short romances, diversity, novels set in Europe, and Canadian stories.

Five out of five stars!

Let me tell you how amazing this novella is!  It features Asian MCs (one who is bisexual), tantalizing descriptions of yummy food from all over Europe, insight into the life of flight attendants, and a sweet love story. And that cover is adorable!

This was CUTE. A sweet romance about a practical, clever and competent gal and the charming, confused coworker guy who is swept off his feet.

I liked that Viv bowled Marco over; a guy who, by his own admission, had no trouble finding male or female bed partners, but had no idea how to deal with Viv. Beautiful, slightly prickly, Viv.

Watching them fall into a relationship was heart-warming and while the left turn the story took at one point felt a bit forced, I appreciated that it meant they both had to undergo some self-reflection.

I really enjoy this author’s full-length novels, so picking up this short was an easy choice. Fly with Me was a cute, sweet short story that details a romance between two flight attendants. I loved the wanderlust vibe throughout Fly with Me as well as getting to see highlights of Marco and Vivian’s travels abroad. The writing flowed well and the dialogue was bright and fun, making this an easy afternoon read that left me with a smile on my face.

Given the brevity of the story, I was a little nervous that we wouldn’t get enough time to really explore the relationship. However, though the romance moved along pretty quickly, the characters were introduced thoroughly enough for readers to get a good sense of their personalities and see the sparks fly between these two. I also loved seeing that these two were more than just a casual thing from the get-go, allowing the author to focus on building a foundation for a relationship versus a lust-driven romance. If you’re in the mood for a sweet short to get lost in, Fly with Me is definitely worth the pick-up.

I loved the characters, and the story, and the food. God, the food. I’m hungry now.
It is a short one but it doesn’t feel rushed. The pace is just right. A cute, funny, beautiful story. I just can’t stop grinning. This book is a happiness pill. Yup.

Fly with Me is a short read about two people who get closer to each other due to their job and discover they'd like to be more than just colleagues. Short stories sometimes skip subplots, but we have some backstory and a subplot here, involving Vivian's father - Tom, which I appreciate.

As for the characters...

Marco didn't leave that big an impression on me as something other than a good, flirty guy, but Vivian is someone I remember more vividly.

Sadly, it's not for a good reason.

She isn't a bad person, but I often found myself annoyed with her.

She can be testy and unfair, calling Marco a "misogynistic asshole" based on the fact that he's flirty and helpful, the latter of which she sees as him "mocking her" (exact quote) as she is a woman and him stepping in for her means he thinks she's unable to do things herself.

We see a softer, more pleasant side of her when she's talking with or about her dad, who she worries over constantly. She tends to send him videos of the places she visits and Marco joins her in that; I'd usually consider it rude - inserting himself in a situation without being invited - but he does ask her if she's okay with it, which, to me, turns the scene to sweet.

Speaking of scenes: the sexual harassment mentioned in the content warning in the blurb is short, not even a page long and doesn't include any violence (just someone copping a feel; lasts a couple of seconds), so unless you've been sexually harassed, I doubt it will trigger anyone. Piss off - yes, but that's about it, so if you were thinking about giving the book a pass because of it: don't.

Lastly: I was hesitating between two ratings, but decided to go with the lower one. Marco keeps thinking (and thus telling the audience) that he sees Vivian being amazing at her job, but in most of the scenes in which we are shown her doing something other than offering food and beverages, she doesn't handle things that well. I understand that since Fly with Me is a short story the author had to leave some things out and they'd probably left these scenes in because they prompted an action from Marco, which led to an interaction between him and Vivian, but this creates a dissonance between what we are told and shown and that kind of threw me off.

I'd recommend Fly with Me to people who have a few hours to kill and like to read about foreign places. I learned a couple of interesting facts about the sights Vivian and Marco visited.

My rating: 3.5/5

This is a really nice novella. It took me a little while to warm up to Vivian but I ended up loving her at the end. Marco was charming, even when he was making stupid decisions. ;)

A great read. I'll be reading more by the author.

Trigger Warning : One scene of sexual assault. Mentions of death by breast cancer.

Fly With Me is the story of two airline attendants - Vivian & Marco, who meet during a flight when Viv joins Marco's fleet, and fall for each other. It is a short novella at 22,000 words that is a quick and easy read leaving you with a fuzzy feeling.

As far as plots go, there's not much to this story. Just two characters meeting at work and spending time together, and falling in love in the process. But, it is so much fun to read! Also, both the characters are Chinese Canadian and it is an #OwnVoices book in that aspect, so yay!

Viv is a no nonsense, no holds barred woman and I love that about her. She does come off as a little judgmental in the beginning, and she does form opinions quickly, but that doesn't mean she doesn't change her opinion if she finds evidence to the contrary. She isn't perfect, of course, but she is amazing. I like how much she adores her father and how she looks after him. It is so very heartwarming to read. I also love how she isn't afraid to take the lead, be it anywhere. Yes, new situations make her uncomfortable, like they do to most of us, but she doesn't back down and takes charge. It is what I love most about her.

Then, there's Marco. He is such a sweetheart. Warm, funny, chivalrous. This man is all of that and more. I absolutely adored him. He is charming and friendly, and doesn't have any problems in gelling up with new people and making them smile. He is always ready to help someone in need and never makes them feel bad about it. He is out and out bisexual and absolutely does not shy away from the fact that he likes both men and women. I love his honesty and his openness about his sexuality.

The romance between them is so cute. Of course, there is an instant attraction, but neither of them act on it and they become friends before things escalate to more and I like that. They spend some time together, get to know each other a little better before taking it up a notch. Obviously, they have miscommunications along the way, but at the end of the day, they realize how important the other is, and give each other an honest chance, which is important.

Overall, I absolutely enjoyed reading this story and I would definitely recommend it to all you romance fans out there. :D

Fly With Me is a novella about two flight attendants falling in love as they fly around Europe. It has an enemies-to-lovers trope, a very independent heroine, and the charming hero.

Content Warnings:
There is one scene of sexual harassment and other mentions of it
Mentions of a family member death due to breast cancer

Both main characters are Asian-Canadians. Marco Chang is an immigrant from Peru and is a bit of a player. He’s bisexual and I loved the moment when he came out and held his breath when he was realizing how much he wanted Vivian to be okay with that part of him. It was so real. He recognizes when he’s done something wrong and apologizes for it.

Vivian is Chinese-Canadian and a very independent and witty character who is devoted to her family and in turn her father is supportive of her and does not want her spending the rest of her life caring for him when she could be out living her life. She spent most of her time taking care of her mother before she died, and her father finally convinced her to be a flight attendant for European routes so she can send him pictures of the attractions.

On stops, the two MCs roam around the cities together and visit local restaurants that tourists don’t hear of. Vivian takes videos of places like the Coliseum, Notre Dame for her father and Marco helps her by giving facts about the places. Some of the scenes are hilarious to read, like when Marco tripped, and Lin really knows how to write tense scenes as well.

This was a very short read, but it was really easy to get invested in the story and the characters.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Charming. I really liked both characters and their reaction to each other, their relations to family, and their travel. I thought they were a little quick to "I love you" at the end - I could definitely believe they were moving in that direction without it being spelled out like that. But it was a lovely story, and I'm always interested in Hudson's writing and perspective.

This is a sweet, short read about two Asian flight attendants working routes in Europe and falling in love while they explore Rome, Paris, and London. One of them, Vivian, has an elderly father in a care home and she sends him videos of herself everywhere she goes, and their relationship is so cute. Vivian is reserved and a little prickly and she initially gets off to a rough start with Marco, who is handsome and charming and kind of assumes that everyone will like him, and the way they play off each other is great.

A quick little novella about romance between two flight attendants. Marcus and Vivian suddenly work on the same flights and they strike up a friendship and then a romance as they explore the cities of Europe.

This book started off strong and then went downhill for me. Vivian and Marcus met and there was immediate friction between them. But they actually talk to each other and get over the misunderstandings that came up at the start of their relationship and things start to progress. Vivian has an elderly father back home and she is struggling with travelling so much for work but she and Marcus are making it work.

There were a couple of issues I have with this book. I found it started to drag a little in the middle when they were falling in love. It was them visiting cities, having dinner, talking about their tourism experiences and sex occasionally. Then there was the big conflict we get before the end of the book and I was just - unsurprised and unimpressed. It had me rolling my eyes. We didn't get enough screen time of Marcus to have it make sense or make us root for them to fix their romantic relationship. I also didn't like how Marcus was the one always in the wrong with their first meeting and their conflict.

This was a quick novella but I think the premise would have suited a longer book much more.

Cute story of romance in the skies! Vivian is a flight attendant who has switched her route to see more of Europe. She meets Marco, another flight attendant, on her first flight to Rome. The tour Rome together and there is so much chemistry between them. Marco shares a bunch of fun facts about the sites they are seeing. Sweet ending.

Content warnings: sexual harassment, mentions of cancer, panic attack

Now if you’ve followed me for awhile you know I love romance novels, but especially diverse romance novels. So when Hudson dropped me an email pitching me a book with 2 Chinese Canadian characters, one of whom is bisexual? I was so down!

Vivian has been sticking to Asian flight routes since she became a fully fledged flight attendant, but then her dad pushes her to try doing some European routes. Which is where she meets Marco. Marco has been doing the European routes for quite some time, so he shows Vivian around his favourite places on their off days.

On the whole this book was a lot of fun. It was quick read with some loveable characters.
