Unstoppable Liv Beaufont #2

The Uncooperative Warrior

Rate this book
The truth has been buried for so long that only one person can uncover it―someone who doesn’t play by the rules. Magic has been stolen. A giant’s sword, locked away. And no one questions the peculiar. Except for Liv Beaufont. She downright rants about it. The House of Seven keeps sending her on wild-goose chases, but this warrior has a way of stumbling upon clues. When one leads her to an unlikely ally, Liv strikes up a partnership that she might end up regretting. A decade of servitude is not so bad, right? However, if things go right, then Liv will be that much closer to finding out who murdered her parents.

Book two (which I read immediately after book one) was even more epic, full of acts, magic, and intrigue. I love Liv so much! She's powerful, has a good sense of right and wrong, doesn't mind shaking things up, and is downright hilarious! I liked Clark a bit more in this book. John has such as interesting past. Rory is a favorite of mine. I'm so interested in the history of all the magical creatures and their relationships with one another, but especially the magicians and the giants. Plato is also very intriguing, and I want to know more about him. Also, the whole magic script/writing that Liv might be reading soon is so cool! I want to see more of that, ASAP. Honestly, I have nothing bad to say about this series, which is great. I highly recommend them to fans of urban fantasy! 5 stars.

My question is why do the Seven meetings feel so unbalanced between the Warriors and Councilors?
You'd think since they are all arms on the branches that it would feel more collaborative instead of feeling like the Councilors have all the power and the Warriors have no say in what the Councilors do, or have no idea of what they are working on....

Aren't they all meant to be the leaders of Magicians? If so why are the Warriors getting berated and in trouble of being dismissed from their positions if they don't accept an assignment...can Councilors be dismissed the same way?

It was better than the first book!!

Too many times the second book isn’t as great as the first book but hunny....this was BETTER than the first book! The pacing is quick but not rushed, we get answers we wanted from the first book but they only lead to even more intriguing questions AND we get more world building and character growth! I can’t wait til Book 3!

More action. More magical creatures. More secrets. More questions. What? Backup, I thought there were enough already...but we did get some answers that of course lead to some more questions. The world is getting bigger and richer; I love world-building.

Liv is also growing more confident in her own powers. More importantly, she is not alone. She opens herself up to potential allies and is rewarded. I love the brownies; they are far more formidable then they seem at first. It is also nice to see her growing bond with her sister and brother (even if they have to keep it secret).

I'm looking forward to the next book.

All is not as it seems...

What is going on canisters? Will the council ever send Liv in a serious mission?

We see much happening, and have mysterious hints to something big brewing but no idea what it is.

Liv is determined, brave, and hilarious with a good dose of cutting snark. She is learning more about her magic and more about the magical world, as well as breaking down barriers and brining in change in her own way.

So bring on the next book!!!

Fantastic second book in the series

Second books in series either lock you in or turn you off. This one is great. It develops the characters, adding more interesting dimensions and also continues the story wonderfully.

It’s great that Liv is continuing her normal existence and also growing stronger ties with her magical world.

Can’t wait for the next one.

Liv learns more about using her magic and manages a favor for Rory while starting potential relationships with the other seven. Digging in with cheesy banter and mistakes but still fun and quick read.

Great characters, quick pace and difficult to put down. Just like the first one.
My only minor gripe is that it wouldn't work as a stand alone story, but maybe that is to be expected as the 2nd book of a long series.
It delves deeper into the background of some characters and the main focus was the world building.
Still, a good chapter in the tale of Liv Beaufont.

Such a fun book! Liv does not disappoint - does things her own way, but genuinely cares about her friends and magical creatures as a whole. All her actions are for the greater good. I loved that we learned more about the characters we met in The Rebellious Sister (book 1), but also got to meet and fall in love with some new characters, I particularly like the Brownies and the Fae.

Liv is kicking arse at this being a magician thing....and her relationship with her siblings is deepening.

I didn't realise I was near the end when I turned the page wanting more and got...nothing...the end...now the wait for the 3rd book - can't wait!

Most enjoyable.

Three cheers for Luv Beaufont! I'm glad I picked up the first book in this series. Then I am even more happy that I read that book and then plunged into this second book. Fun characters, an unusual plot line, and you have the bait firmly set. When is Book Three due? Why I do believe it will only be a few more weeks! Yippee!!!

The Uncooperative Warrior

A magician, a giant and a magical talking cat. What more could you want in a story? Brownies! ( the clean your house kind). Though the giant might bake you some brownies wearing his grandmother’s apron. I’ve yet to be disappointed in anything Sarah has written. Great series. Only one problem, have to wait a couple weeks for book three. How cruel Sarah.

Another masterfully written series

I am truly enjoying this series as it transports me to another world. A world filled with magic and mayhem.
I love the rebellious nature of Liv and how just being with her seems to bring out the best in each of the characters.
Thank You

I cannot wait for more!k

I was so sad to hit the last paragraph of this book and see the word "Finis." I had been swept up in Liv's world and enjoying every minute of it! A strong character lead with others beginning to understand and help her, these books are interesting as well as adventurous and I am so looking forward to the next installment!

I love Liv she's funny and kind in her own way. I like the mysteries that are showing up. I like the creatures and the characters. It'll be interesting to see what Liv uncovers and how it changes the house of seven. It seems like she has some secret friends but she's right in believing that she's got to be careful with who she trusts.

I honestly didn't think that this book could be any better than book one of this series - but it only went and did it!

I've just stayed awake all night, reading this story, because I just couldn't put this one down . Liv is a wonderful character, and I'm loving learning more about her, her family, and the people she allows to get close to her.

It's great that she accepts people for who they are, and never what they are - wouldn't it be a wonderful world if we could all learn to do that?

Anyhoo, in this story, Liv is being sent on wild goose chases, to keep her from getting under the Head Magician's feet at the House of Seven. But Liv keeps on doing the impossible, to them, and succeeding in her tasks in ways so unexpected, that nobody can work out just how she does it.

But then, Liz has been living in the real world, for the last five years, and sharing her life with normal humans. She also has the empathy, and ability to understand, what people really want, and so she succeeds in ways that most magicians couldn't dream of.

In this book, Liv has discovered a secret, through her easy relationship with the Brownies, and it will take a huge amount of courage, for Liv to find out the truth of what they have found.

If you've never picked up a book by Sarah Noffke, then do so, and enjoy a well written story,, with excellent characters, a plotline that'll leave you guessing until the time is just right, and some great, laugh out loud moments, too!

I absolutely loved this!

So, I'm going to catch up on some sleep for a few hours, then start on book three: The Defiant Magician!

The second book in this series has more of a loose set of mini-plots that wove together, than one book length plot, but I didn't mind at all. There was a lot of forward momentum on several fronts, including uncovering clues about what happened to her brother and sister, and clues about what's going on with the Council. Also, it looks like a love interest might be hinted at for the next book, but maybe not?

The snark got toned way down this time around, thank goodness. Liv is still funny, I love her asides, and her jokes, but it was a little too much in the first book. This time, it's the right amount of spice.

Also loved all the new allies, and how she really tries to be fair, and listen rather than take other peoples opinion as gospel. She tries to see the good, and doesn't try to hurt anyone who is willing to work with her. She tries not to hurt anyone, period.

Most of all, I like that Liv tries hard to be honest. She only lies when she has to - but that doesn't mean she doesn't have fun tweaking the Council given the opportunity.

The book was fun, and light, but ended abruptly. I got to the last page and went wait! What? That's it?

Definitely getting the third book.

Speedily Improving!

I wasn't the greatest fan of the first Unstoppable Liv book, but it gave me enough to go to #2 ... and that really has sealed the deal going forward in many ways.

One of the biggest problems I had with the initial offering was how shallow I found the characters throughout the storyline. Most were shadows that I really wondered if I cared for them, and even Liv suffered from this somewhat. In some cases (Plato, Rory) it was even irritating to some extent. No more.

In Warrior we quickly hit stride. While still a bit immature, Liv is really coming into her own, and the writers - to their credit - are actually running with that, owning it as a proper characterization. Liv as a living, breathing, vital "contrary" strikes the perfect note within the overall plot. The other characters - regardless which side of the equation they fall upon (whether you love them or hate them) - fill their own roles quite well.

Plotwise, we can see some hints of things to come, and it's tantalizing. Certainly, it's enough to want to know more, and potential battle lines are beginning to come clear. Pacing and language support strongly.

Score: 4.5/5 (big jump, but earned - I'm hooked now!)

4 In The Places You Are Told To Never Look Stars

The Uncooperative Warrior is the second book in the Unstoppable Liv Beaufont series by Sarah Noffke and Michael Anderle.

I find myself beyond sad that nothing truly seemed to happen of note throughout this book. While they uncovered a few hidden, tentative allies, and it's become more certain that certain Council members of the House of Seven are not to be trusted. I even appreciate the winding journey Liv took to have Rory craft her a unique giant-made sword for her alone.

However, the progression was a little lackluster. Everything that occurred to reveal a previously unknown answer seemed to only lead to increasing numbers of further questions.

I can't wait to further explore the relationships that Liv is building with different magical beings. Along with the secrets, her key may reveal further. But most of all, the way in which her partnership with Plato is unfolding truly holds my attention. And then there's the hilarious conversations and interactions her and Rory seemed to share more and more of as this story continues.

As many others have said, oftentimes the second book in a series is somewhat of a letdown and seems to be just a space filler. However, that is definitely not the case with this book!

Liv Beaufont is slowly coming into her own as a Magician and one of the House of Seven. Liv is a reluctant (and uncooperative!) Magician and Warrior, but she manages to do what has to be done. Mostly, she is being tasked to do mundane and unnecessary work, but soon that will change and she will have to decide how to handle it.

This book really built on the beginning of Liv's story and the characters started to bloom and grow on me as a reader. In the first book, Liv's brother, Clark, was pretty useless (IMHO), but he began to grow on me in this second installment.

Once again, Sarah Noffke has created a world full of wonderful characters, guys you love to hate, and tons of magic. I love Liv's snarky attitude, which is one thing I have come to expect from Ms. Noffke. I'm glad that the next book is available since I can't wait to continue the adventure!
