DAX:

My job is putting out fires--PR fires, that is. Partner in one of the most prestigious PR firms in Hollywood, I've lived most of my life helping others stay in the spotlight but keeping as far away from it myself as humanly possible.

Enter Jace Kruse.

#HottieFirefighter is the hashtag everyone is using for the overnight Insta-star who made headlines when a pic of him with a pooch he saved from a runaway vehicle went viral. Doesn't have anything to do with my life until a major potential client shows interest in an endorsement deal with the internet sensation, and Jace becomes my ticket to stomping the ass of one of my company's fiercest competitors.

Problem is: Jace isn't swayed by dreams of fame and fortune. He prefers his down-to-earth life in Fever Falls and has turned down every company who's approached him to leech off his recently acquired celebrity status.

But where others have failed, I'm confident I can succeed. If there's one thing I'm good at, it's persuading. And after a few encounters with Jace, the easy-go-lucky, ever-charming, sexy-as-hell, and surprisingly #topcurious firefighter has me persuading him about more than signing on for an endorsement deal.

He may be good at putting out fires, but Jace sure knows how to start them in the bedroom...and then in my heart. However, between his rising star power and the intensity of my feelings, I know where this inferno is leading, and if we don't put it out soon, someone's gonna get burned.

#BURN is part of the Fever Falls series but can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

Devon McCormack grew up in the Georgia suburbs with his two younger brothers and an older sister. At a very young age, he spun tales the old fashioned way, lying to anyone and everyone he encountered. He claimed he was an orphan. He claimed to be a king from another planet. He claimed to have supernatural powers. He has since harnessed this penchant for tall tales by crafting worlds and characters that allow him to live out whatever fantasy he chooses. Devon is an out and proud queer man living in Atlanta, Georgia.

Devon's body of work ranges from erotica to young adult, so readers should check the synopses of his books before purchasing so that they know what they're getting into.

This was my very first ever solo Devon McCormack read and I must say it went rather well!

#Burn is book two in a new six book, tag-teamed series, written by McCormack and his regular co-author, the always wonderful Ms. Riley Hart. The series follows the lives and loves of a group of male friends, some of whom are firefighters, in a fictional small town (or city, more like) called Fever Falls.

This sequel follows presumably straight firefighter Jace Kruse - friend of Beau and Ash from book one (Fired Up) - as he becomes an overnight sensation after a cute fur-baby save goes viral. When a big Hollywood PR hotshot by the name of Dax Munro comes to town to offer Jace an endorsement deal, the two get more than either bargained for when a fierce and undeniable mutual attraction compels them to explore a physical relationship together, regardless of their new work ties or Jace’s lack of man-on-man experience.

These two were smokin’ hot together, and I expected nothing less from what I know of McCormack’s stories. Besides the scorching sexual chemistry, I really appreciated the ease with which these guys communicated with one another, effortlessly becoming friends and confidantes, on top of their physical affair, even before stronger feelings came into play. Their relationship progression was just easy and simple and I enjoyed that aspect very much. Nearly all the drama present (for which there wasn’t much) was mostly external to Jace and Dax’s personal relationship, which was a refreshing change of pace.

What was also refreshing was the confidence with which Jace acknowledged and embraced his bisexuality. There was no denial or internalised angst going on for this guy; he simply found a guy attractive, considered it, accepted it, and thought to himself, “Hey, I think I might want to explore this!” He was super open-minded and self-aware and curious as all get-out, and I liked him all the more for it.

Jace and Dax were an honestly open and deliciously sexy pairing, and aside from the fact that I felt their story was perhaps longer than it needed to be, with some repetitive scenes and character thoughts/conversations, I generally enjoyed myself here and I look forward to reading on through the series!

2★'s = it was ok.

Weeeellll…I just didn’t connect with this one, at all.

I didn’t get their connection and they didn’t seem to even have a connection for quite some time. Lots of thoughts but it never seemed to be about their romance.

I am thinking maybe this series isn’t so much about the romance?

I really struggled with this one. Really. Ugh.

This book made me smile from start to finish

I'm a big Devon McCormack fan and I'm loving this new series with Riley Hart a lot.

For Devon's first instalment we get a mostly light-hearted look at the pressures of fame, specifically social media fame, which touches on the zeitgeist of the Instagram celebrity.

Both characters are fully fleshed out and are brought together by a chance of fate, when a picture of firefighter Jase rescuing a dog goes viral and PR agent Dax's latest client wants the 'hottie firefighter' for his ad campaign.

The premise of this book gave Devon a lot of material to work with and he turns it into a great romance with self-discovery and sexual awakening just a part of the ride.

I loved how chilled Jase was over his attraction to Dax, not so much anxiety about finding a man sexy but more that he had no clue about what to do with it.

Dax was a gem too, the more his past was revealed, the more I fell for him, a white knight in a world of sharks, determined not to let Jase be ruined by fame.

The Fever Falls setting is a great one, so we see Beau and Ash from Riley's book Fired Up a lot, including a couple of conversations that had me laughing while reading, as well as a bunch of new characters I want to know more about.

Now I'm waiting on book three!

Loved the first book in this series and I love this one even more!

Between the scorching hot cover, the Shar-Pei puppy and Jaces absolutely amazing personality I'm almost as in love with him as everyone else in the book. Jace alone would get 10 stars if possible and combined with Dax he's even better.
Couldn't put the book down and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes fire fighters, almost first time gay thrope, love that sneaks up in the shadows of hot chemistry and main characters that are amazing.
There's also a little bit of Beau and Ash from the first book in it!

I think it's safe to say this author just doesn't work for me.

Imagine the most monotone voice you've ever heard reading a book out loud - that's how this book felt. There was nothing remotely engaging about any of the characters at all. It was even bad enough that it made me dislike Beau and Ash from Riley Hart's previous instalment, when I really liked them in their own book.

Also if there was a drinking game for how many times Jace is referred to using his full name (and Dax to a lesser extent) I'm pretty sure I'd have fatal alcohol poisoning at least three times over. I will never forget the MCs were called Jace Kruse and Dax Munro because those words probably account for a third of the total word count just on their own 😭 I can safely say I have NEVER referred to someone using their full name unless I'm introducing them to someone!! So weird...

I even skipped the sex scenes because they were SO awkward and mechanical - I actually feel like two stars is maybe generous...

I'll be continuing the series but I won't be reading any more solo efforts from this author, even the collaborations with Riley Hart (whose books I love!) don't read the same as her usual books 🙁

It's a cute book, a little of insta love (or a lot) but here you can see someone who doesn't believe in the good of the fame anymore, all he sees is how the fame corrupt people until he meets someone who wants to use his fame for good.

I liked the first one. This one a lot less.
Nothing wrong with the story nor the MCs. I just didn't connect with them.
They were likable enough characters but something was just missing for me...

I'll continue on with this series though. It's fresh!

The chemistry between Jace and Dax is felt in the first encounter. Jace was always curious about the opposite sex but never acted on it until he met Dax.

Dax has problems, many problems, since he was a child he never wanted to be in the world of celebrities, he always wanted to be behind the curtain, so he decided to work as a PR, when the owner of the new account he manages tells him that he only signs the contract with him if he can make Jace the new face of his brand, he thinks this will be easy, after all, everyone has a price, right?

The more Dax knows Jace the more he sees that he is wrong, that certain things are priceless, and when Dax finds himself, he is already feeling more than he should.

I know I don't like this author and I always push myself to read his books due to:
1. The hype
2. He works with Riley who is a personal favorite of mine

But once again, I'm left disappointed. The story had so much potential but it landed flat. The romance felt lacking, the drama was lacking, the whole thing was lacking something.

I had to literally push myself to finish it for 3 days and not DNF.

Fluffstastic!!! 3.5 sexy stars!!!!

Need some comfort fluff in your life with a side of virgin gay sex? Then this is your ticket!

Ride the fluff wagon all the way to 88% until you hit a wee bump of family drama. Then get ready to be spun like cotton candy as the MCs emphatically declare their feelz for each other. Finish off the ride into HEA on a sweet river of love.

Plot? Think about it his way....do you really need a reason to eat candy? Nope. Just a lovely guilty pleasure, just like this book. Very little nutritional value, but so delectable. Like this book—plot, schmot.

Oh, and for those alpha male fans..you’ve got two here! And how fun it is to see who gets to roll around on top! PR man or Hottie Firefighter?

Just try to find something bad to say about this book but sorry nothing comes up. As good as the first one, perhaps I'm in phase with the writing or I give up myself to the story. I just took my tickets and enjoy the journey. I'm happy and that's enough 😁.

3.75 rounded 4 stars!! 💕Loved it!!💕 Hotness Alert!!🔥🔥🔥 I'm loving this series so far..where each story is told alternately by either RH or DM. Having read a few other books by Mr McCormack, I was expecting a hot sizzling story and he did not disappoint 😍. It was quite apt too, since Jace is a firefighter 😉 that he and Dax would have a steamy connection from the get-go. But Jace is straight...😳.. or is he?🤨😍
Dax comes to Fever Falls to sign an ad contract with the new social-media sensation Hottie FireFighter (aka Jace Kruse), never expecting Jace to have such an attractive personality too. To Jace's surprise, Dax proves to be irresistible and they start a casual physical relationship with no long term plans. Having never had any serious relationship in their past, they are confident that despite the sizzling chemistry they share.. it is temporary and they can continue having fun without deepening their feelings. 😍
But as they spend more time with each other and start sharing their past.. their growing feeling are impossible to deny💞. Add to that, despite their very different upbringings they find a solace in each other's arms as they move past their burdens and start falling for each other ❤️ However, can they have a future in such a high pressure environment where they are perpetually hounded by the press? Will they have the courage to admit their growing feelings?💕
To find out more about Jace and Dax's sizzling hot story, I highly recommend reading this book👍👍. It is low-angst, sexy, with no-crazy-miscommunications, no-evil-villains, light and fun book. 💖 It can be read as a standalone, but for a better understanding of the additional characters and the location.. it might be better to start with book 1. 😍👍

I think I knew early on (like 10%) that this book wouldn't be for me. I just wasn't feeling it. It certainly didn't help that the first real introduction to Jace involved him having on-page sex with a female (and yes, I know he was previously assumed straight). It may have been extremely brief but that's still a no thank you for me when I'm reading m/m books. However, my OCD does not permit me to abandon a book once started, so onward this soldier went.

The problem for me was I never warmed up to these characters. I thought both Jace and Dax came off as superficial and conceited and the humor felt forced. There wasn't really much drama or angst either since Jace was very accepting of his bisexuality and just rolled with his new career move. It seemed like the majority of the book simply focused on their sex life, missing a lot of great opportunities about Jace's modeling and commercials in the process. We're briefly told about everything after the fact with time jumps instead of experiencing it in detail with him (but heaven forbid we miss any time or details in the bedroom). I thought Jace's job as a firefighter would have played a little bit bigger role too (there was that whole lovely firemen photo shoot/car wash) but it really didn't until the incident at the very end. So I guess I found the book a bit lacking in substance and emotion, and to put it simply I was #BORED.

I listened to the audio version of this book.

Overall it was okay, I was neither super engaged in the characters nor did I find the story really riveting, but neither did I feel annoyed about the characters or the story. Yes it did all feel unlikely and unreal and I didn't get any big emotions, but lately a lot of books really annoy me and this didn't. It gave my mind a little something to do while I was weeding the garden.

I really enjoyed listening to this cute romance, lovely narrated by Michael Pauley.

After a picture of firefighter Jace Kruse while rescuing a pup got posted, he became famous overnight as #HottieFirefighter. A fame he didn't want and tried to ignore.
But then Dax Monroe entered the fire station......
Dax, a career driven PR guy, managed to convince Jace to work with him, so he could secure an important account.

They both had their insecurities, both a bit baggage from their youth. But the story kept a low level angst, was easy to read/listen to. I loved their chemistry and especially Jace was a sweetheart!

Looking forward to going back to Fever Falls with the next book!

DNF at 17%

This was a big miss for me. In no particular order:

1. Jace

For claiming he's straight or even mostly straight, does not at all act that way. It's one thing to be secure in your sexuality, and another to greet a stranger with "hey stud" which...is porno levels bad dialogue. And this was at his work! A firehouse. He also aggressively hits on Dax immediately...? Such bad instalust. Instalust, and I can't even feel the chemistry! They don't have any.

2. The writing

The writing lacks any sense of subtlety. I was expecting, based on the blurb, some degree of sexual tension and development...but by 10%, that's already been bludgeoned out the door. It's blunt to the point of being unpleasant to read, because it's almost...I'm not sure. It's so surface that it feels painful. The dialogue is awkward as fuck too. It just doesn't read like people.

3. The setup

Okay, I chuck my realism and logic out the window relentlessly for romance novels, but sometimes...I just can't. It doesn't make sense to me here, that:

a. Jace went viral for a shirtless photo
b. This happened months ago
c. Why would anyone want him on talk shows in the first place
d. Why would he make a good model for an ad campaign so late in the game, no one is going to give a fuck at this point

and then

e. why is he so easily convinced by Dax when he'd dodged everything else for months
f. why was dinner with his mom a litmus test
g. why does he have such an idiotic name "hottie firefighter" really!?!? the internet is better than that

4. Jace's motivations for the money

This part cheesed me off. He decides he'll do this ad campaign for the money, but just so he can donate it all back to the center or shelter or whatever charitable community thing. My problems:

a. we actually don't know him as a character, so his motivations don't seem real, it's all infodumped via a stilted and unrealistic dinner conversation
b. the amount of money quoted for the ad campaign would not be enough for those plans, shit is expensive
c. it all honestly feels like this was shoehorned in because Ash did such nice things in the last book, like buying a football field. But it made sense for Ash to do that - he had a connection with Kenny, with Beau, he was a pro football player so he's flush with cash...it fit in his character, in his story. This? does not. Basically I found this to be a pale imitation of Ash.

5. I don't appreciate actively seeing MF sex in an MM book unless it has a narrative purpose, which it most certainly did not here - it didn't develop his character in any way, or give us an insight into him...no, he was just being his theoretically straight self. blah.

Overall, not worth my time. I'd never read a solo book by this author, like many of the other reviews have noted, and I've ended up in the same opinion box as well. Not for me, and not similar to the first book.

Devon McCormack is always entertaining, and Michael Dean reading Devon McCormack is twice as nice. This is a good "first time" romance with two manly men, great dirty talk, and an okay storyline. And always good for an easy Sunday afternoon listen.

Voto 4,5 💗

Buona lettura.

Devon made it seem so easy. I am enjoying his books and cannot wait to tear through the rest.

Batman & Hollywood

I. Just. Cannot.

This was the anticipated Devon book of 2019 and I am so glad I was able to fulfill my read time. After BFF series, I needed more. Imagine my surprise when my friend Barb mention this Riley/Devon series! I was like, that book is mine!! I enjoyed Ash and Beau's story, but it was something about Jace and Dax that captured me from jump and never let go.

The town of Fever Falls seemed to be a delight, and the setting was the right one for these stories. I liked how big Hollywood agent Dax seemed to get suck into the community, falling deeper for it as he fell for the first time.

The conception was wonderful. Bringing the Internet into play by making Jace a superstar with one swoop fall. I enjoyed both men, and got to see a lot of growth in Dax as he navigated his past and present, always with Jace's best interest at heart.

A delight. Completely delish!! The secondary character were wonderful and fulfilled their roles. And I love how Devon wrote Jace's character. Even realizing he might be bi didn't faze him like some would. He felt and he acted. He knew what he saw, wanted and moved on. He was a pleasure to get to know and he made Dax a better man. Minimal to no angst. YES! This is one that will be recommended and read again in the not to distant future.

Congrats Devon for reeling me in.

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I didn’t have high hopes for it, and it actually proved me wrong. It was a nice sweet, sexy book. Had everything I love. Gfy, newbie, famous person, and some hot smexy times. No ex’s, no cliche famous (I do love a good famous person book) people, no miscommunication that they took forever to work out, just a straight honest book about two people who because of past issues pushed love away only to find love in each other. And I very much appreciated that. I will be reading more from this author.
