Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay may be the children of terrible villains, but they're fitting in amazingly well on Auradon. Well, at least most of them are. For Mal, the pressure to be royally perfect is too intense, so she returns to her rotten roots on the Isle of the Lost. But Mal soon finds that her archenemy, Uma, the daughter of Ursula, has taken her spot as self-proclaimed Princess of Evil. Even worse, Uma has a plan to destroy Auradon —and a gnarly gang of pirates to back her up! It's a classic battle between wicked and evil . . . and these kids are made for trouble.
This is basically exactly what you'd expect - a novelization of the movie that is word for word in most places. Knowing this, I still expected something a little more. Maybe it was because a lot of things weren't well explained (I couldn't imagine reading this without watching the movie first. But the movie is also better. I feel like this could be something good for kids to encourage them to read more, but overall, unless you're a huge fan of the Descendants movies (or the cast), this isn't really work the time.
I dont know why I'm reading these. I just like to read! Lmao. As long as I dont read the written versions of High School Musical I think I'm ok. This was probably word for word the dialogue of the movie, but there were a lot of it I didnt remember.
I read this book to my daughter at her request. It seems that it was clearly written to mirror the film. LOTS of descriptive language to describe their outfits, so I used it as a teachable tool in my English class. My daughter was mostly bored with it.
Descendants 2: Junior Novelization The book starts with Carlos, Evie, Mal, and Jay causing mischief by passing out apples that instead of poisoning everyone, turn them into “VKS” and they run around the school making chaos. But it turns out this is just what Mal *wants* to happen. In actuality, she’s been bombarded with questions from the Auradon press. Ben steps in to save her and sends them off. Ben rushes off to council meeting. Evie pulls Mal away to a fitting (for her dress for her gown for the Cotillion).
Back in their room, Mal asks Evie is she ever wonders what it would be like if they were still on the Isle, but Evie is distracted and watching a news clip of when Mal and Ben meet with Aladin and Jasmine. The reporter is commenting on how well Mal is fitting in, but Mal’s secret is she’s spelled the book The Lady’s Manners to absorb itself into her brain. Evie thinks tho that she should put the spell book in the museum. Evie says she doesn’t want to be back on the Isle. They’re Auradon girls now. There are so many more opportunities there. So, she advises best they leave the past in the past.
Meanwhile, Jay isn’t planning to ask one girl to the Cotillion so he can dance with all of them. Carlos wants to ask Jane but when she comes over to Mal to ask her about decorations, he can only get up the nerve to ask her if she liked the carrot cake and in confusion she says she had the pumpkin pie. Lonnie alarms Mal and tells Mal the coronation is like the pre pre pre engagement and she can’t wait until the wedding. She had *NO* idea! Ben is planning a surprise gift for Mal and confers with Jane to make sure the eyes are green (for the stained-glass mirror).
Meanwhile, Evie’s 4-Hearts business is going well. Doug has been helping her keep track of the records. She’s doing so well that in a few years he says she’ll have enough money to buy herself a castle. She seems to have put aside her differences with Chad to help make him a coat with peacock feathers for the Cotillion. Ben surprises Mal with a purple motorscooter with a gold bow. She was supposed to give him a picnic with all his favorite foods but forgot she was doing it Thursday and this day is Thursday. To make up for her slip up, she hurries off saying she knew it was Thursday and she just has a couple more things to cook. She rushes off and Ben tells her she’s the best but she feels like the worst.
Lonnie tries to get on the R O A R Team but Chad tells her its against the rules. Jay doesn’t want to get kicked off as Captain so he sides with Chad. Carlos makes another attempt to ask Jane to the Cotillion but she thinks he’s suggesting which she said she’d be all to happy to do. All she ever does is serve punch with her mother (The Fairy Godmother). Carlos tells himself it’s just not the right time. Mal delivers a “Truth Gummy “to Carlos. She asks if he misses the Isle and he says not really. Before he can take the gummy, Dude swallows it and tells him he saved him one. It’s nasty.
Uma (daughter of Ursula), Harry (son of Hook) and Gill (son of Gaston) meet at “Ursula’s Fish and Chips”. The interview is also on the television there. Uma vows that when she gets a chance she’s going to rain down evil on Auradon and they’ll forget all about Mal (who gave her the nickname “Shrimpy” and it stuck). Harry kicks out Gil who calls Uma that and Uma is satisfied but won’t be fully satisfied until Mal gets what’s coming to her too.
At their picnic, Mal has prepared soup, hors d’oeuveres, beef ragot, cheese souffle, pies, puddings, pastel-colored cakes, fresh fruits, tarts, a loaf of warm bread, and tiers of appetizers-every single dish Miss Potts made for his parents-. Which makes Ben double happy but the gig is up when he finds Mal’s spell book. Ben and Mal start to argue. Ben accuses her of lying to him again. Mal accuses herself of being fake and walks away from the picnic after taking off the spell and showing him what she really made was PBNJ sandwiches.
Mal returns to the Isle to see a vandalized Royal Cotillion poster of King Ben and the new blond version of herself. Over Ben’s face, someone had scribbled a black eye patch and a goatee, and a purple X had been spray-painted over Mal’s face with GOOD GIRL. She goes to her and her friends old hideout -which has remains the same-. Evie tells Ben that Mal has gone back to the Isle for good and he convinces her to take him there so she can apologize. She makes him promise that she won’t get stuck there again and he’ll have to get a lil more edgy in appearance.
First, Mal pays a visit to Curl Up and Dye (Lady Tremaine’s shop) and her grand daughter Dizzy gives her a new look (lavender hair and nails). Now Mal can see herself again. Harry comes in and steals all the money from Dizzy. Mal taunts Harry about basically being Uma’s tool and he tells her Uma will never give her (her) terriroty back. Mal says she’ll be taking it. He threatens to hurt her and she sticks her gum on his hook and says he won’t do anything without permission. He storms off.
Ben, Evie, Carlos, and Jay arrive on the Isle. Ben wore his new Isle-inspired outfit, which consisted of a distressed blue leather jacket with metallic studs, a blue beanie, blue fingerless leather gloves, blue pants, and dark boots. While two children try to pick pocket Evie, Ben wanders off. Evie, Jay, and Carlos try to teach Ben how to be discreet but they run into Gil (Gaston’s son). Gil recognizes Ben from the poster and goes to tell Uma. Jay, Evie, Ben, and Carlos arrive at the foot of the bridge hideout, where they knew they would find Mal. Ben tries to tell Mal he’ll change for her, tries to convince her that everyone loves her, amd gives her a ring, but she turns him down. Ben tells Carlos, Jay, and Evie she’s not coming back.
They go up to talk to Mal but Henry intercepts them and tells him they took him and they want to see him alive to tell Mal Uma wants to meet with her at the Chip shop alone. Uma challenges Mal to an arm-wrestling contest. If Mal wins she gets Ben back. If she loses Uma gets the Fairy Godmother’s wand. That throws Mal off and she loses. Uma tells her she wants her beast back to bring Fairy Godmother’s magic wand to my ship tomorrow at twelve o’clock noon. Sharp!
They decide to give Uma a fake wand, distract her with smoke bombs, get Ben and get of there. They all make plans to meet at Pirate’s Cove later. Evie and Dizzy are reunited and she gives her (her) old sketch book. Dizzy is thrilled that one of her designs inspired Evie to create the dress Mal wore to meet Aladdin and Jasmine. Meanwhile, Carlos and Jay go back to Auradon to print the 3-D wand but Chad is in Carlos room using it. Dude says that Ben got kidnapped. They make Chad promise not to tell but Lonnie overhears. Evie and Mal borrow shower caps and chemicals from the shop. On the way out, Mal tells Evie she’s definitely not coming back. Evie offers to stay with her but Mal tells her she’s an Auradon girl now and they both realize they’re going in different directions. Lonnie catches Carlos and Jay coming out and tells them she’s coming with or she’s telling Fairy Godmother.
Ben tries to convince Uma to come back with him to Auradon and they can lead together. He tells her it was always his plan to bring over more VK’s but he just got distracted. She thinks it over and tells him nah. She’ll get there on her own. The others show up and Carlos gives Uma the fake wand but she’s not stupid. She makes them prove its real. Mal pretends to do a spell that makes Carlos’s dog (Dude) talk. But she finds out it’s a fogery soon enough and there’s a battle. The AK’s escape and make it back to Auradon.
At Cotillion, Ben shows up with Uma and says she’s his true love. He also announces she’s taking down the barrier because of her. Jane unveils the stained-glass window Ben commissioned for Mal and she realizes when she sees its her with purple hair that he loved her for who she was all along. Mal breaks the potion Uma gave him by giving him true loves kiss.
Uma leaps into the water using Ursula's magic seashell necklace to transform into a sea monster, with her legs as tentacles, and Mal fights back as a dragon. Ben jumps into the water and intervenes, quelling the battle, and Uma returns the ring that Ben had originally given her when he had declared her as his true love and leaves. Mal and Ben reunite, Mal surrendering her spell book to Fairy Godmother. Evie requests that Dizzy be allowed to attend Auradon Prep; when Dizzy is offered, she excitedly accepts. (Wiki)
Rating: 5 It’s just not a good idea to change yourself into someone you’re not for ANY guy. Luckily this was never one of the dumb mistakes I made.

This book was basically the exact same copy of what happened in the movie, it starts from Mal trying to fit in Aurodon, then she feel like she can’t, then moves the isle again, then her friends and Ben tries to bring her back but she refuses then Ben gets captured by Uma and her crew, Uma wants only one thing for Ben to be released, fairy godmother wand, but Mal and her friends know what she is capable of doing with that wand so they give her a fake and she fell for it for 2 seconds but they had already released Ben and they managed to escape but Mal left her spell book by accident and Uma found it and casted a spell on Ben so he falls in love with her and bring her to Aurodon, Mal later broke the spell and Uma turned into some type of octopus and Mal turned into a dragon, then Ben broke it up saying they could live in peace with each other but Uma refused and swam away.
This was the exact thing that happened in the movie but In the book it explains the exact details that happen in some parts of the movie that they didn’t explain properly in the movie.
Fesyen mereka bagus banget. The stylists makin paham cara menata rambut Evie.
She's been under so much pressure lately. And instead of understanding, I—I just went all Beast on her!".
Omong-omong, Ben green flag banget.
Well, mungkin satu geng isinya multitalenta. Apakah di filmnya terlihat jelas perbandingan kadar keahlian empat orang itu ketika berpedang melawan geng Uma? Mungkin iya, tetapi aku lupa.
5/5 disney stars - mostly because it reads exactly like the movie - but that's the point of it. I've seen the movie 10,000 times due to child and she wanted the book of it so .. read and done - if you read the book and havent seen the movie I suggest you watch the movie!! It's great - also listen to the soundtrack - because it's also awesome and I found myself singing the songs in my head that went with each part of the book
Everything is exactly the same as the movie, they described everything in a detailed way, outfits, the dance numbers and the situations, it can really help you imagine everything if you haven't seen the movie
I read this with my daughter, a chapter or two a night. She loved it. I was more, "Meh." It was almost verbatim what was in the show. For a kid it's an OK book.
About the only thing I can think of that was different was a scene where Harry and Gil kissed in the book. I could have done without the gay kiss, but otherwise there isn't anything risque. When I read it to my first grader, I just skipped that sentence. It doesn't add anything to the story, so I'm unsure why it's even there except as some sort of diversity virtue signalling, which isn't necessary in a book aimed at kids.
The story line flowed along at a nice quick pace. Being a kids book, it was easy enough to read. Mal was the only character who was developed much. Each chapter was introduced as an entry of Mal's diary.
The book was for formatted well enough. For some reason each of the pages was tinted, particularly around the edges. It didn't interfere with the reading, but seemed unnecessary. There were no obvious spelling/grammatical errors in the paperback edition.
In the second of the descendants film novelizations, we see Mal struggle to stay in the world feeling pressures to be perfect and not play up to her true evil, wicked ways she misses from the Isle.
So much so, after a fight with her Prince Ben, she finds herself longing and heading for the Isle, her true home.
Only its there that she once again finds herself in trouble with her enemy Uma whom is jealous the others for the chance to leave the isle and so captures Ben, but can Mal save him and will she return with him to their school?
This time we see more friendship from the group as they've now settled in at school among the good kids as they work together. I liked seeing the enemy vs goodies aspect with new character Uma and her friends as the action was gripping and fun to follow!
I haven't watched the Descendants 2 movie, but I was curious to see how they would follow up Descendants. And I also really love the song 'What's My Name' because it's so badass and sassy. First off, Whoa. I did not see the kiss between Harry and Gil coming. I looked up the movie to see if the kiss was actually put it in, and once again, Disney forgets about the LGBT community or doesn't watch young viewers know about 'gay' or 'transgender' or 'bisexual'. Maybe I'm biased, but I liked Harry and Uma best. I loved Harry, because he is both sexy, badass, and HAWT. Maybe I didn't watch the movie, but I did find out that Thomas Doherty is very hot with or without the excessive eyeliner. And I loved Uma because of the leadership and ambition, the picture of feminism. The book was a little cheesy and over the top, feeling like Sleeping Beauty, the Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan mashed into one, but overall, it had a good message about fitting in. I appreciated that Mal wasn't the ideal lady and liked being edgy more than she liked being this perfect girlfriend for Ben.
Knowing it’s a novelisation of the movie I knew it wasn’t gonna be as good as it could have been would it have been written prior to the movie instead but at parts I was still disappointed. It’s mainly the movie some times word by word and action by action. Some scene where a bit rushed for me personally while others could have been shortened. Overall it’s a quick read and the style is easy to follow and read so that’s good. But in the end it’s mainly just for collection reasons that it’s worth staying on my bookshelf.
A completely faithful adaptation, perfect for young readers who want to enter the Descendants 2 world through a book instead of (or in addition to) watching the film. It does a great job of capturing the characters as depicted on screen and it doesn't make you feel like you are missing the musical numbers, because their scenes are described in a way that still gets all the important information across.
I'm on a super-huge Descendants kick right now, which resulted in me borrowing this from the library. It's everything that you can expect from the novelization of a movie, but I still really enjoyed reading it! I might be a little too obsessed, but at least I had this to help me get through this phase :p
The junior novelization of Disney Channel’s Original Movie “Descendants 2” is just like the movie without the songs. Even though personally I think this is the best movie in the series it’s not the best book. I found myself putting it down and getting bored while reading it. But, definitely watch the movie!
I obviously adored this. I always get an extra layer to this narrative when I consume it in text form. This is one of my favorite worlds ever and I loved revisiting this story.
