I won't lie. At first, I struggled with this book a bit. I was worried about how certain elements looked to be evolving as I read, because, as much as I loved KLS-9, this one was feeling very familiar, like a sequel to a great movie that doesn't quite measure up...that is until I got to the third act. While I do think that this book could have been fleshed out more, maybe 50 pages longer, and some characters really could have benefited from such a treatment, there's still some really strong material here! I could have done without the rape scenes (but that's something you have to decide for yourself, if such content crosses a line), and some of the dialogue feels a little forced in places, like everyone's trying to hard to be friendly to each other, but the overarching story here won me over in the end. I'm excited to see what Leigh brings to the table in EDEN-1 and where Kerry and the surviving members of her chosen family will go from here.
