Trinity Row

Rate this book
Local legend says Trinity Row is the house that won't die. Local legend isn't wrong. Sixteen-year-old Ivy Black and her mom have moved in for a quick renovation to make an easy buck. Then it will be on to the next rundown, abandoned eyesore. Simple. Move. Fix. Sell. Run. For the last three years, Ivy and her mom have run far away from their past. That's the thing about Trinity Row, though. It doesn't let the past die. When Ivy finds out that the friends she thought she made and the things she thought she's seen aren't exactly what she believed, she goes on a mission to free her mother from the snare of Trinity Row and the evil spirit controlling it. Except, after a trip to Trinity Row, you'll never want to go home again. For fans of The Haunting of Hill House and Kendare Blake's Anna Dressed in Blood.

Kelly Martin is an author and developmental editor who lives in a possibly haunted house in a small southern town. While she'd like to say paranormal things only happen to her at her home, it would be a lie, mainly because she searches them out in some of America's most haunted locations. Whether it is talking to the ghosts of Waverly Hills or the spirits of Thomas House Hotel, these events inevitably land in some of Kelly's books. Just wait until you read The Haunting of Micah Reed.

It was okay. I think this would've been a masterpiece if it was written for adults with some subtlety, a reworking of the end, and more depth to the villain. I know this being a YA, it has to be more in your face but even then, there were some scenes that just like ... I don't understand how she could just push the shit aside after it happened. LOL

And she was also stupid about these ghosts. Like, these random people would pop up in her house, either during or after one of these ghostly things, and she'd only be like 'wut you doin' here?!' She was never suspicious why all these people would be in her house when the house has such a bad reputation around town. Like, the town's people won't stand on her lawn, but all these random people in her house is just normal? And why wasn't it a problem that these people were there in the first place? Even if they weren't ghosts or whatever? Who wouldn't be up in arms about that?

4 stare. Very interesting story, but I thought it was about an asylum for some reason. It's still a wonderful ghost story.

Audio Book Review 9/17/19
Narrated by: Anne Marie Lewis
Length: 8 hrs and 35 mins
Unabridged Audiobook
Release date: 09-05-19

The audiobook was FANTASTIC. Reading the book was creepy enough but hearing it out loud was positively creeptastic! Anne Lewis left me with goosebumps. I loved experiencing this story again.

Book Review 3/8/19
Fans of the classic Alfred Hitchcock movies are going to love Trinity Row. This story is unnerving and will leave readers questioning their sanity! The house will not die and the person pulling its strings might not be who you think. I found myself scrolling back and re-reading sections to see if I missed any clues. Trinity Row is a twisted, haunting tale that you simply must read more than once.

The Queen of Twists does it again

Kelly Martin just keeps getting better at pulling you into a story and keeping you hooked from being to end. This book has so many twists and turns that you don't see coming. A definite must read

TRINITY ROW by Kelly Martin

Some old houses just need to stay vacant. Trinity Row is one of those houses.

Ivy Black and her mom have the perfect system: they buy a house, they fix it up, and then they sell it for more money than they spent. But they really should have avoided Trinity Row. What's wrong with Trinity Row? For starters, a crazy old man is one of their neighbors. There is a family plot in the back yard. Murder and suicide took place inside the house. Ivy wonders how a simple old house could possibly drive someone crazy. It doesn't take her long to figure it out.

This book is full of memorable moments, and the author has a way of putting the reader directly into the scene. I found myself squirming with anxiety and holding my breath with every word. And these creepy events stick with you (after someone has pried the book from your hands!). All I can say is, good luck putting this book down!

Author Kelly Martin knows how to bring on the creepy. As soon as I heard about this book I knew I had to have it. I have been a fan of her work for quite a while and now Trinity Row is my absolute favorite by her. She really knocked it out of the park with this frightening and mysterious tale. I thought I had it all figured out about half way through, then BAM she through a curve ball that left me jumping out of my seat.

With characters like Ivy, John, Nate and Dara Lynn I couldn't help but want to find out more about them. The rate at which their secrets were revealed had me flying through the pages. I would get one tid bit at a time and scream, "I want more". I love when a book does that.

This ghostly tale will have you begging for more! I highly recommend it!

1st read
This is my first read by Kelly Martin and holy cow. For sure will not be the last.
Trinity Row was a mind trip. Anyone who knows me knows that I don't re-read books, ever. This one will most likely be re-read eventually to see what I might have missed. Any hints along the way. It truly leaves your mind reeling. I highly recommend this!

2nd read/listen
I barely re-read, but I was so excited to be able to listen to the audiobook! I was able to catch things that I missed the first time around. There were so many clues that were easy to overlook, but that made it all the better!

Oh Jane

Beware the real estate agent that hooks you up with a deal too good to be true. For many reasons this story had the feel of a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie or something from the Twilight Zone. You feel as though you've driven by this type of house somewhere. The characters draw you in as they are seemingly normal. As you progress through the story you question who and what is real. There is a definite creep factor. I loved the tv and movie references - some subtle and others nostalgic and obvious.

This was such a rollercoaster ride, took my breath away. It would be a great movie, super creepy. I don't know if it's a stand alone book? But I would Love to see how it goes further with the house and Ivy. Loved it a lot, great job from Kelly Martin.

Kelly Martin has done it again. Trinity Row was a nail biting, twist, of suspense that everyone needs in their life. Very clever and addictive read. Couldn’t wait to be home to finish the book, neglecting my pile of unfinished work. So worth it.

Finally I made it through Trinity Row after I got asked to review it by Monster Ivy Publishing. Firstly I have to say the narration would have been better if narrated on the whole by a man with others casted in for the voices. I didn’t like the sound of the ladies voice at all.

On to the book

So you follow a character called Ivy Blue and she moves in to Trinity Row with her Mother who brought the house for $1. They are greeted by old man West when they first arrive and he is really distressed at the fact they are moving in but he can’t get his point across as his speech is difficult to understand whether it is due a stroke but he is highly agitated. He gets calmed by a young man and taken back to his home.

Ivy and her mother are meant to be renovating Trinity Row but straight off the bat things are strange and the mother who would normally bring houses she buys bang up to date decides to leave this one alone and just improve what is already there. For now you think this is fine and she is sympathetic to the house...
Two people keep randomly turning up at the house and there is never an indication of a knock when they turn up; they just end up being there and these are John and Daralyn (may have spelt that wrong). Even in the night this Daralyn just turned up out of the blue...strange.

As the story goes on the mother’s behaviour gets more bizarre and Ivy Black doesn’t recognise herself any more. Ivy herself has some strange things happen to her she can’t explain at all and again this John would just turn up and be there.

From scary noises to bizarre visions and huge changes in Ivys Mother you realise there is more to Trinity Row than meets the eye.

How this book is written you have to keep a check on the characters and pay attention to the small details as they all fit in to this jigsaw puzzle to make a shockingly good picture at the end.

This is a twisted tale of a house that won’t die and I think the groundwork that has been done with this is great. I think it could have been added to as when you get to a certain point so much happens and it’s like a scary rollercoaster with all the twists and turns in it. I’d say this is definitely YA but with careful tweaking and more added to the story you could make a fantastic Adult paranormal thriller/romance.

Give the book a chance and give it the time and you’re in for a good read. If the author made a few adjustments and put more in to the book it would make an even better read.

Thanks for the review opportunity MonsterIvy Publishing

Trinity Row by Kelly Martin is the perfect book to read during Halloween! It will keep you in suspense and have you turning pages well into the night. You will not be able to put this book down! Ivy Black and her mother buy houses to flip and resell at a profit. They could not refuse the offer to buy Trinity Row for just one dollar. If it looks to good to be true, it probably is and in this case it REALLY is. This book has ghosts, a haunted house and a lot of suspense.

The plot and characters are well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I received it a part of a Quirky Blind Date with an author and I always review every book that I read. I recommend this one, especially not at the Halloween season!

This was pretty good and had me interested from the start but sometimes the main character just brushed off strange things happening in the house which bugged me. It didn’t stop me from reading it though and I wasn’t expecting the ending at all.

From the back cover: “For fans of The Haunting of Hill House”. That’s a bit of a stretch. This might seem like a harsh review as I don’t enjoy YA novels. Why did I read it then? Because I received the book in a book subscription box (not a cheap one) and wanted to get my money’s worth. An adult book sub box. (The company said they thought this was an adult book when they purchased it).
There was nothing wrong with the writing, and I really like the cover, it was just not scary, a bit predictable (in regards to who the ghosts were), and you have the two young handsome studs vying for the MCs attentions.
Nothing much happens until about 3 quarters of the way through. Ending was ok. YA wasn’t the popular beast it is today, so I was reading a lot of Steven King when I was a teen. Perhaps that’s why I can’t appreciate YA novels, like other adults seem too. Dare I admit it, despite its flaws, I think I found twilight a more engaging story than Trinity Row 😬. I might have given that 3 stars.
I’d recommend this for pre-teen at the oldest.

I know the protagonist is a 16 year old girl, but it also felt like that was the target audience. I also know it was a YA, so it is what it is, but I feel like the author could have done a better job not pigeonholing the audience. I’ve read plenty of YA where that wasn’t the case. Didn’t have a real creep factor. None of the ghosts were all that scary and all the twists were dreadfully predictable. Not a bad story. Kind of cookie cutter with the buildup and climax; top it all off with a lackluster ending. Meh.

The artist who designed the creepy cover did a magnificent job capturing the eeriness inside. Ivy Black initially embraces the whole renovate-the-haunted-house challenge, but the more she spends time within Trinity Row, the more she questions her sanity. Who's alive? Who isn't? Who wants to kill her? Who doesn't? I recommend this book to older teens who can handle the adroit plot twists and violence—who like to read with their hearts in their throats.

Sorry, cannot review this one....I dnf'd it at 60% through it. Yep, was way too annoying and not a horror novel at all. If you like reading an annoying young, and virginal's attempts on whether she is going to be kissed or not for her fist time...then this book is for you. Wow, and i really wanted to love it, too. Sorry Kelly Martin.

This is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. The Southern voice is out of this world, and the plot’s delightfully creepy. I loved the characters, and I loved how Martin really made the setting come alive. I can’t wait to see what else this amazing author writes!

Why were the parents blaming Ivy for her brother’s death?

I thought the twist was gonna be that her mum had lost her marbles (hence Ivy mentioning that her mother was talking to people who weren’t there AGAIN), and kidnapped Ivy, parental alienation style, then manipulated Ivy into thinking her Dad blamed her for Ian’s death… except it’s never explained. Her mother’s previous mental health issues never explained, why the parents blamed a literal child for the death of her adult brother - never explained. The rationale for Ivy and her mum moving from house to house to town to town, never explained (parental kidnapping would’ve made sense in this context!). Ivy was an incredibly passive and indecisive/hesitant main character. So much self doubt and the brief flashes in the pan where she experiences confidence/self-actualisation are immediately followed be more self doubt and going back on her actions… rendering any satisfying character arc moot.

Also felt like the author didn’t know how to resolve the story of killing the big bad. Just was a bit of a “let’s stab the villain and see what happens” … also not satisfying.

I get I’m not the target audience but I still love and read teen pulp horror and in many way this was on par with that, but with a little tweaking could’ve been so much more.

I did enjoy when the entire cast of characters got together in the end… Ivy, John, Nate, Dara Lynn, Hannah, Melanie and the mum. That was done well!

This is an audiobook review.

DO NOT listen to this one at night! I got the creeps and I listened to this totally during daytime hours.

If you like southern gothic, haunted houses, and ghosts with agendas put this one on your list right now!

Oh, and there was for sure a reason why Ivy and her mom bought Trinity Row for $1.00!!

PS. Ivy (who is 16) tells the story and this is thought of as a young adult book but I’m a grown woman and it has an excellent plot and met my scare meter perfectly.

About the Book

Sixteen year old, Ivy Black and her mom have bought Trinity Row to renovate and resale. For the last three years, they have been running from a family tragedy by flipping houses for a quick buck.

Around town, Trinity Row has the reputation of being haunted. As Ivy makes friends in town, some are not exactly what they seem. Is she finally giving in to her tragic past or is someone manipulating her and everyone around her?

Thank you to the publisher for the chance to listen and share my honest thoughts.

Had a bit of a rocky start but I surprisingly REALLY liked this. Some of the writing is a bit confusing but I was never once bored reading this, and the ending had me racing through the pages. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking exactly, but at this point is it even possible for anything in horror to be original anymore (by now basically every trope has already been written!) This actually reignited my motivation to read more horror and this is the first horror novel I genuinely enjoyed reading in a long time.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find in the acknowledgements that the author is Christian! That’s not something you see much in the horror genre, so I like that! A fellow Christian who enjoys writing and reading horror; this isn’t something that I run across too often!

We had to go out of town over the weekend, so I started reading this on the way, since it was over a two-hour drive. Needless to say, I had it read by the time we got back.
I'm a sucker for ghost stories and this one didn't disappoint. Not only did it have the creepy paranormal plot, but she managed to add unique elements that kept my attention and had me wondering who was trustworthy and who wasn't. From the cover and title to the ghosts inside, Trinity Row sucked me right in! I look forward to reading her latest book, What Rachel Did.

Don't read this at night! A creepy story that made me question what was real and what wasn't. A ghost tale full of lots of twists and turns, along with goosebump-inducing scenes. Never going to be able to look at an antique house or mirrors the same again. Loved Ivy and how she becomes something strong from the brokenness of her life.

I really loved this book. The characters had a lot of depth and personality. There were so many jumpy moments and freaky moments. I loved the twists and turns. The love interests were interesting and unique. The drama was on-point.

It was easy to binge, and I found myself excited to return again and again to the story until I was done. The perfect horror YA book.

Creepy story, shame about the typos

A good ghost story with some very creepy scenes. Characterisation is ok, not great. I almost dnf this book due to the amount of typos. Don't know whether this is due to poor set up of the ebook. I would give this author another try, next time I fancy something creepy, but not too gory.
