I’ll admit it. I messed up.
Mistake #1: Asking Peter Barnidge for a job.
Mistake #2: Accepting his offer instead of throwing it in his face like I planned.
Mistake #3: In the interest of stopping before #99, I’ll pretend the only other mistake was withholding one, tiny little nugget of truth during my interview.

Peter Barnidge… Where do I even start? How about that after my first day working for Mr. Superstar International Bestselling Author, his name became my favorite kid-friendly cursing substitute. Stub a toe? Peter Barnidge it! Bank account is overdrawn? Son of a Barnidge! And when I realized I was falling for my boss? Well, what the Barnidge?

I wish it was easier to just plain hate him, instead of the twisted, confusing blend of hatred and attraction I feel. But he’s the bad kind of attractive. Dark with a side of smoldering heat. The kind of hot that makes me want to do that Catholic cross thing every time I look at him, because one glance takes my brain straight to a world of sin.

Speaking of sin… I also lied a little during my interview. But I’m a single mom and I’d do anything to provide for my daughter, even if it meant keeping one tiny little secret. Unfortunately, even small secrets have a way of growing over time.

I think it’s only a matter of time before he finds out, and somehow, I don’t think he’s going to be happy when he does.

Penelope Bloom

USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and Amazon Charts Bestselling author Penelope Bloom is taking her first flight into romantasy—and yes, there are dragons. After years of contemporary romance, she's temporarily trading meet-cutes for magical academies and coffee shops for castles that reek of blood. She promises the banter is just as sharp, but now it comes with deadly consequences.

Fun fact: “Penelope Bloom” started as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the family dog, Penelope—never meant to be anything serious. But then the books took off, and the name stuck. Behind the scenes, Penelope Bloom is actually a husband-and-wife team. He handles the writing; she edits, helps with brainstorming, and runs the reader-facing side of things (like social media and messages). So if you’ve chatted with “Penelope” online, you’ve likely been talking to her—with the author chiming in whenever needed. Together, they’ve built the voice readers know and love.

Book five in the Objects of Attraction series which at time of posting is available on Kindle Unlimited.

Violet takes on the job of Marketer for famous author Peter who eventually finds out the secret she's been hiding from him.

There was a few plot holes in this one that grated a bit but its less than 200 pages and the whole series is just a bit of fun so no big deal.

Three stars.

Cute but not a lot happened.

Her Secret will give you a single mom struggling to keep a job. Enter Violet and her darling daughter Zoey. Now they have kind of been through the ringer, whether it was Zoey's dad running away because the single life was better.. or Violet struggling to keep her life together. The day that she gets a job from Peter she knows she has a lot on her plate. It also doesn't help that Peter has his own baggage because of an ex that did him wrong. He's an author and she is sort of creating ads for his stuff.. but not really because he kind of created a fake job for her.

Of course these two had some cute banters throughout the book. I was just kind of wondering when she would eventually tell him about her kid or at least wonder when he was going to find out about it. Mostly because I didn't know if the guy was going to be overdramatic or not about it. Like, yeah.. I get it she lied about the kid but he did kind of challenge her in the beginning when he mentioned that she wouldn't survive in the workforce if she had anything outside of it.

Anyhoo, it ends up working out because he ends up falling for her and the kid. Zoey was adorable and I laughed out loud when they were like.. no, you can't come on the honeymoon with us. Then talked about doing taxes and oh lord - I was lucky that I wasn't drinking something at the moment. Besides all of that, anything that has William in it makes me happy - he's by far my favorite character out of this entire series.

No ileż można.

Ale miło spędziłam wieczór.

I'm not a fan of single parent romances, especially if the kid is not Hero's or heroine's and when main characters have ex issues (aka OW/OM drama), but this is Penelope Bloom and I pretty much love everything she writes (even though this one wasn't totally my favorite), so here goes .....

SPOILERS!!!

“After Kristen, I told myself love was for idiots. I’d been an idiot for thinking I was in love, and I’d been more of an idiot for giving my trust to Kristen. I promised myself I’d never make the same mistake again. Nobody could betray my trust if I never gave it. Nobody could make me feel like that again if I never let myself feel for them. Then you happened.”

She pulled back to look up at me. “Sorry.”

I grinned. “You should be. You came along and ruined two years of hard work. I’d been doing a good job of not giving a shit about anyone until you. Trying to hate you only made me care about you. I’m not going to pretend I know what love is anymore, but I know I care too much about you to listen to good sense. I know I forgive you and I am ready to trust you, even if it means putting myself at risk again. I never thought anyone would be worth that, but you are.”

Violet buried her face in my chest and laughed with relief. When she looked back up, she looked on the verge of tears. “You’re not so bad, either, you know.”

“Moving,” I said.

“Something is…” her eyes trailed down to my cock, which I was irritated to feel stiffening.
Damn it. Apparently, my cock didn’t realize this wasn’t a throw her on the table and celebrate with sex kind of moment. Then again, I couldn’t really blame my cock for being ready, just in case.

“I’d apologize, but you don’t look too upset about it,” I said.

She shrugged and gave me a sexy little half smile. “How does that saying go? Cocks speak louder than words?”

I laughed. “I’m almost positive that’s not a saying. But I get your point.”

Violet slid back in to rest her head against my chest. “I’m really glad I didn’t have to resort to stage two of my apology plan.”

“What was stage two?”

“You don’t want to know.”
------
“Mommy,” Zoey said while she swung back and forth. “Can Peter be my daddy?”

“Well,” Peter said. “We would have to run it by your mom, but I’d like to be a dad to you very much. I was waiting for a special time to do it, but this actually feels just about right.”

I frowned as I followed Peter’s hands. They went to his back pocket and he started getting down on one knee. Before he could show me what he was getting out of his pocket, though, Zoey turned in the swing to look, which made her legs sway to the side. She came full speed toward Peter and accidentally kicked him in the head with both of her feet, knocking him to the ground.

I knelt down beside him, trying not to laugh.

“This isn’t exactly how I envisioned the big moment,” he said with a groan as he got back to one knee.

“Sorry,” Zoey said. “I was just joking on you.”

Peter rubbed the side of his head. “And it was a powerful joke.”
----
“Speaking of the honeymoon, have you decided where you want to go?” I asked.

“Africa,” Zoey said with a huge smile.

I winced. “Usually honeymoons are just for mommies and daddies, Zoey.”

Zoey hung her head. “Then I’m going to look for the rest of my heart. Because you took some of it.”

Violet and I shared an amused eye roll over the top of Zoey's head. Zoey had developed an impressive ability to manipulate us with adorably deep sayings like that, and the little brat knew it, too. I could see her trying to hide her grin even as she hung her head.

"I'll tell you what," I said. "If you really want to go to Africa someday, we can work on a way to convince your mom to get you a few weeks off from preschool. If she agrees, we'll go. But you're not coming on the honeymoon. Sorry to break it to you."

“Why?”

“Because we have to do mommy and daddy things on the honeymoon,” Violet said.

“Like what?”

Violet bulged her eyes at me a little and held up her palms.

“Taxes,” I said.

Zoey groaned. “Taxes?”

“That’s right,” I said, locking eyes with Violet. “We’ll be up late every night doing taxes. Your mom actually loves it when we do taxes, believe it or not. She gets so excited that we’ll probably have to tell our neighbors to keep it down.”

Zoey laughed. “I never heard mommy get excited to do taxes before.”

“Because she wasn’t doing them the right way. Not before she met me.”

“Then it’s a good thing I met you,” Violet said.

“Yeah,” I said. “My thoughts exactly.”

The best thing about this was the cute kid! She was a hoot and this is why it went from 3 stars to 4 for me. 😁

I love this series and I adored this installment. Violet is a single mom who has an adorable and precocious 4 year old daughter named Zoey. Zoey adds to my pleasure reading this book that includes their relationship. This series has a lot of sexual innuendoes in the books and this one is full of them. When Violet goes for a job and is actually hired by the multi-millionaire author, Peter Barnidge, imagine her shock when he offers a a job that she has no experience with and her salary will be $100,000 plus benefits!

I guess the story isn't all that unusual or unique from many other plots in other books, but Penelope Bloom just seems to have the right amount of sexual tension without it being full of nothing but hot, steamy sex scenes. But what really made me fall for this series and this book is the humor and all the puns full of sexual innuendoes. From the get-go the reader knows the only reason Peter hired Violet was because of testosterone. He said, "Hiring Violet was idiotic. Dangerous, even." And his thoughts about her while she's being offered a job are all sexually charged. But I love it...it's hilarious!

This was an enjoyable book. Violet gets a job working for Peter. He can be difficult to work with. Don't get me wrong I understand why he is that way. Of course after spending time together they start to fall for each other. Thankfully when he secret comes out he ends up forgiving her and they get their HEA.

I had great pleasure in reading this book. The characters are well formed and I could see each character as I read the story.
Her Secret is about a single mother who is trying to build a business in marketing and be able to support her young daughter.
The relationship she has with her daughter is very loving and caring. Violet is stressed as she has to find a job where she can do her marketing so she is at an author convention, where authors promote their books and do signings. At this convention, she has Zoey, her daughter, with her and is attempting to keeping Zoey under control as she has decided that she wants to collect a rainbow bookmark. So as Violet is doing her thing and Zoey is attempting to find the right bookmark, when she sees ones fly off the table and land by a closing door, so she runs after it and Violet is not far behind her hoping to catcher her before the door closes with her on the wrong side.
Violet makes it and now she has to get Zoey out of the authors' lounge before she is thrown out.
Just as Violet and Zoey are attempting to leave when she backs into, Peter Bainbridge. But he opened his mouth asking if he needed to throw her out himself?
Now she needed to roundup Zoey and leave. But first, she attempts to give Peter Bainbridge her card and tell him she does marketing for all kinds of business.

This was my least favorite book of the series so far. Was still a really good read, just didnt feel as connected with these characters as I did the previous ones. Violet is friends with Lilith and Liam, but they had not been mentioned in the previous books, which may be why I didnt feel the automatic connection.

Violet is a single mom who will do anything for her daughter Zoey. Even if that means lying, by omission, about having a daughter so she can get a good paying job. Her new boss Peter is not a very warm soul. When the two come together, you can say they is automatic fireworks that neither of them know what to do with other than fight them off with obscene comments or just plain rudeness. When Peter's past comes back to light we have to watch as Peter needs to decide whether he can open his heart to someone else and learn how to trust again. All the while Violet is faced with the same decisions. Is she ready to introduce Zoey to a man after her own father walked away from her?

An honest review for this book is going to take me hiding it for spoilers. It did not quite meet the usual expectations of Ms. Bloom's Objects of Attraction Series.

****SPOILERS****
I feel like this book in the series was forced. I would have been content with ending the series with His Package which was my absolute favorite. I did appreciate that Lilith was the connection to Violet, but pulling William and Grammy into the plot was contrived. Ridiculously contrived - and the entire series is build upon people playing matchmaker. There was only one sexy times, and that's OK as there was not any other place in the plot to add anymore. My major complaints are that at the end of His Package there is a positive pregnancy test that is the impetus of Lilith's and Liam's engagement, but there is no mention of a pregnancy or a baby, just their marriage in this book. That definitely needed to be cleared up. This book was also not as funny/snarky as the others in the series, which was slightly disappointing, but Ms. Bloom does discuss that this was an enemies to lovers arc and there isn't as much ability to make that funny when people hate each other. Oh, well. There's implications that there will be another, and I hope that it is more like His Package and not Her Secret.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

While I appreciated the inclusion of a working single mother who is determined to get ahead professionally for the sake of her daughter, this wasn't my favorite. It definitely met expectations, but didn't rise to meet its potential. Both main characters were great, but how they connected with the other books in the series felt forced and unnatural (not to mention missing pieces from past books).

one tiny lie that will come back and bite her. Peter is a condescending piece of work that hires her. He is attracted to Violet tries to push her away because of a past betrayal. This story has so much drama that will have you laughing and cheering for this couple not to mention the supporting characters that really rounds out this story. You won't be able to put this one down.

There's a couple of spoilers in and there. But probably not that many.,

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2019...

So I finally got around to reading the next book to this series. & I can say I am not disappointed. It was really good; I also can say that I knew Peter had a thing for Violet; I mean, when Derek was flirting with her on the first day, it was funny how mad he got and demanded her to come to his office. I was a dang boy; just tell this girl you like her already. But I also understood how he didn't want to trust the next female who works for him because of what Kristen did to him. Which was just horrible it's funny how people can do things to you like that and don't think anything is wrong.

One thing I can say if it weren't for him meeting Violet, I don't think he would've gotten the rights back for his book. That he wrote, when someone steals your hard work, and you have actual proof of that work everywhere, you can get it again even if you sign something or you didn't because that is stealing. I was glad he got his thriller back with the help of Violet. I did want to smack him because I thought he was about to diss Violet and not talk to her just because she never told him about her daughter, I mean who wouldn't when someone you trying to get a job from telling you, only way you get this job is if you have no obligations (like kids, etc.) at home...

But in the end they made a happy family; I also was wondering how in the world Peter and Violet fit into this series because I was like how do they know any of the guys or women in this book.. but I learn that Violet is best friends with Lilith and Peter is friends with Bruce... I also see that William still wild...

This is another delightful, laugh-out-loud, steam up your glasses, melt your heart romance in this lighthearted series. This can totally be read as a standalone but characters due reappear throughout the Objects of Attraction series. So, in my opinion you will have a more enjoyable reading experience if you are familiar with all the character and their stories, but ultimately that's up to you. This book features Violet and Peter's story. Violet, I felt, was a easy to love character. Determined, motivated, a devoted mom and a bit acerbic. She was doing her best to take care of her kid and working hard to be a success. Peter, initially starts off as kind of a jerk. He's demanding, uptight, condescending and so rude. As you learn more about his past and get a good look at the guy underneath it all, he grows on you. Both these characters have been burned before and they work hard to resist that pesky attraction that simply will not go away. Toss in some drama, secrets and snappy dialog and you have a great book. If you want a read that is sure to leave you with a smile, you'll want to grab a copy of this book. This is my sincere review that I'm posting by my own choice.

Violet needs more clients for her marketing company. Who better to try to claim as a client than famous author, Peter Barnidge. Too bad he's so dismissive and rude to her when she meets him the first time. But it fires her up and she uses the resources she has to get an interview with him. And voila, she's hired! The sparks are flying between the two from day one, but will they ever catch fire? Will they make it when he discovers the secret she's been keeping from him?

I loved Her Secret. It's witty and sexy and fun. Peter came across as a jerk at first, but once he opened up, I fell in love with him just like Violet did. I think Violet is my favorite heroine of this author's. She's strong, she's sassy, she's a great person and a fabulous character. And her chemistry with Peter is HOT! Can't wait for more in this awesome series.

I am in love with these books. Penelope has brought these books to life in a way that makes you devour these books and make you want more from the characters.

In this one, we have a high in demand author Peter that is not in need of anyone or anything. But when Violet makes a mess at a signing, these two clashes in an almighty way. To help herself out, Violet makes a media blitz that puts Peter on the spot to hire her.

Peter does not like to be put on the spot but hires Violet anyway, but she has to be at his beck and call. Little does he know that Violet has a little girl at home waiting for her. What will happen when he finds out?

I loved it :'(

Gosh, this series is fantastic. Every time Bloom publishes a new book in this series, I roll my eyes at the cover but I still read it. And I still loved every single one. I guess I'm a sucker for cheesy innuendos and light hearted romances. I was slightly skeptical about this one, I tend to avoid romances with children in them but I quite enjoyed it. The characters were likable, even the cocky asshole characters. We saw some characters from her previous books make a reappearance. I overall really liked. It was a light fun read that just kinda makes you warm and fuzzy inside.

Let me start by saying how off-putting it is to have the same name as the big baddie. But in spite of that little situation, Violet and Peter might just take over top spot as my favorite couple in this series. (Nah, not quite. Lilith and Liam still hold my heart, but it’s a near thing.) The snark and spite are powerful motivators between these two. And their banter had me doubled over with laughter a lot of the time. However, the closing scene was the clincher; I will never look at tax time the same ever again.

A nezachránila to ani jedna či dve epizódky s babičkou.

This one had a cute kid going for it. I mean her tennis practice was pretty hilarious and adorable. And I loved that Hailey was so dedicated to her daughter and wanted to make a better future for the both of them as a single mom.

Then there's Peter. Yeah, he wasn't my favorite. He'd eventually turn into a normal human being that's not broody, at least around Hailey. But his whole blow up at the end was a bit dramatic.

The ending was cute though, again, because of a cute kid.

I have fallen hard for this series! Her Secret is one of my top 3 of the series - it's so good!
Violet is a single mother striving to make a life for her and her daughter. She will do almost anything, even if it means a few white lies.
Peter is a jaded author. He sees Violet as a distraction and takes his frustrations out on her. Only he's met his match because Violet gives as good as she gets.
The banter between these two is awesome!
AND Grammy makes an appearance and it is EVERYTHING!

best of the series

I’ve been working my way through the series and while the books have been fine none of them were worth an actual written review. This one is different. It had more heart and adoration and I just fell in love with it!!
