I was entertained by the writing, the use of language but didn't really appreciate the story. Kind of depressing if you look at it one way and in another way, it was an interesting character to juxtapose oneself with.

Extremely easy read; I picked it up because it was a Pulitzer Prize winner. Honestly, I didn't think it was that great. There were only a couple of times when it hit home & I was able to empathize with the main character. I guess I just don't understand how / why a book gets the Pulitzer as this is not the first time I have been disappointed by a book they have designated a WINNER !

'Summary of Less' is about a forty-nine year old American fiction writer who is about to turn fifty. Arthur Less is chronically depressed about his upcoming birthday. His much younger lover, Freddy has abruptly ended their relationship and Arthur’s life is not panning out the way he assumed it would.

Arthur Less is at a turning point in his life not just as an aging gay man, but also as a serious writer who hasn’t achieved the literary success he yearns for. Things have gone downhill since his first novel was received to much acclaim.

Freddy is engaged to another man and a big wedding is planned to which Arthur has been invited. Arthur is greatly distressed and to avoid attending the wedding he decides to set off on a world tour. He accepts every writer’s offer – no matter how humiliating – be it teaching or doing readings of his work in foreign places.

The outcome of his world tour generates a range of new experiences and Arthur Less discovers things about himself he never thought possible.

This is a book that was given to me by a friend. She thought it would be a good read. The book is about a man named Arthur Less, a writer, who will soon turn 50 years old. He looks back on this life as he anxiously awaits the new reality of turning middle age.

Though the character's reflection on his life has been interesting, comical, and adventurously hopeful. I liked how Arthur Less seems to run away from his shortcomings in relationships and in his own writing career. He travels to a few countries as part of his book tour; encountering a few awkward interactions with locals. In the end, as he travels to these countries, he really never forgets why he "flees" home.

He realizes that he never can forget things as they follow you in memory and thought.

This was one of our book club selections, one of those book you read dutifully then wonder why you bothered. It's about gay guys, a love story really. And at that level it didnt work for me at all. The best thing about the book is the travel to various places as the "hero" ponders his affairs, relationships, life and love. Well...

Arthur Less is a gay author from San Francisco who is having a mid-life crisis when he is about to turn 50 and his "non-partner", not a boyfriend, decides to marry someone else. How can he go to the wedding, but what will people think if he does not show up? So he decides to go on a world tour. This novel was a Pulitzer Prize winner and was quite good.

It was solidly OK
It had good reviews, I liked the writing style and it was easy to follow the story line
But, it just didn't capture my interest. It took me a long time to complete it.
Not a bad story, maybe just not for me.

Around the world in venture that ends in love. Oh my , the toe-stubbing, fall over your own feet tragedies and throbbing sunset joys. Oh my the simple silliness and happiness of life .

I kept thinking that something might make this book good, but it didn't.

Poor Arthur Less he overthinks everything and plays out his life in long dramatic moments. Everything in that moment is displayed with so much detail it becomes comical. I caught myself laughing numerous times. It was a good read.

This was so full of homosexuality, I got tired of reading it and would rate it awful. Not even interesting!
