Human by day, Monster by Night!
This book can be read as a stand-alone.

I really liked this book, it was a good variation on the standard shifter themes. In this story the main characters are called Myotis which is a type of bat, though they don’t really shift into bats. They are human by day and at night they shift into their alternate form which has grey leathery skin, grey or black lips, fangs, they are stronger and faster than Vampires and can teleport. It is painful for them to stay in human form at night but it is possible.

Also the species is dying because they haven’t been able to breed in a long time, though they live for hundreds of years. Lucien is the leader and he kidnapped Ella’s father to help with the breeding problem but the father wouldn’t give up any information, so when Ella shows up looking for him, it seems she might be the key to helping them and Lucian offers to let her father go if she stays in his place.

The story is good, not only from the breeding standpoint, but there is a war between Vampires invading from another world, which is getting closer and that is getting in between the couple.

A Thriller Of A Romance!!😍💘 An Obsessive 4.5 Stars 🌟

Ella lives a quiet life in a small town. Her Dad is known as a 'mad scientist' so when he goes missing no one, including the Police, are much help.😔 Once they locate his car, but still refuse to investigate, she takes matters into her own hands!😳 This is the beginning of the end of Ella's ignorance of the Supernatural world she's been living within!!😱

Lucian is the Coven Master of the Shapeshifter's or 'Myotis'. They've been unable to breed for centuries & are dying out. He's promised his coven that he'd find a way to help them all & to rehabilitate their past ways that the old Coven Master encouraged - raping & murdering to try & get children!!😱😡 Ella's Dad was once hired to try & solve their infertility but since they captured him he's refusing to talk!😕 Ella frees him 🙏

Some time later the Old Realm tattooed Vampires are starting to cause more death, destruction & dire havoc.😢 Lucian's heart is put on the line in more ways than one!!💙💔 He also sees Ella again for the first time in years, he's hoping it'll go better this time.😍😂💘

This is a gripping, darker read! I actually adore Lucian & his friends. That they hated & overthrew the old regime goes a long way in making them lovable. I loved his interactions with Clara too 😍 I'm absolutely obsessed with this series & the world. I'm really hoping Melody has more coming from it, please 🙏💕✨

I have read all the books in this series & this one was my favorite. It mentions previous characters from the others but you don't need to read them in order to understand this book. I do recommend reading them as they are also great.
This is Lucian & Ella's story. You met Lucian in book four. Lucian is trying to find out why his kind can't reproduce & kidnaps Ella's father for help. No one will help Ella find her father because they don't think he's missing. She goes out on her own & runs into Lucian. She finds out he has her father & trades places with her father. Lucian ends up starting to care for Ella & he lets her go after danger comes for them. He wants her to be safe from all the paranormal. After 3 years pass they run into each other again & trouble finds her after she kills a vampire. Lucian doesn't want to let her go again & will do anything to keep her safe & loved. This story has twists, turns, suspense & love. I highly recommend reading all the books in this series. You will not be disappointed. Great job again. 😊

Beauty and the Shapeshifter is my favorite of the Evil Rising series by far! Not only was the action and romance intense on its own, but also seeing those small fairytale elements just made me smile. Readers will see a familiar character that was introduced in book 4 take a front seat as one of the main characters, Lucian. We are also introduced to Ella, a seemingly normal girl until she finds out more about her past. Ella and Lucian have such adorable moments that I hope to see more of them in future books. We also get to see their relationship grow over a long period of time as there is a few year time jump in the middle of this book. At first, Ella hates Lucian and Lucian only sees her as a means to an end in helping find a way for his species to endure. Over time, they form a bond that no one can come in between, not even time. I highly recommend this series and author! I am so excited for more from this series!

This was a cute beauty and the beast retelling and honestly, probably one of the better ones I have read recently.

- the characters had personalities! I literally feel like this never happens in all the recent retelling books I have read. I liked both our main characters a lot.
- the plot and pacing were great. I liked how this author combined both the supernatural and the fairytale together and also made a unique story that could stand on its own.
- although the pacing was fine, I did think the book sped through a lot very quickly and the time jump was a bit random to me. I kind of knew what was going to happen in the years they were apart but I would have loved to see more Clara/Lucian scenes than what we got.

Overall, this is one of the better-written books and I would definitely recommend it. I am going to check out some of the other books in this series.

The writing and storytelling was top notch, the chemistry was there, I liked the book but I didn't finish.
The beginning was so interesting with these different shapeshifters and their cause, how they had enemies and how they wanted to keep their race alive.
I love how her being captive was fun for her, because they treat her really nicely and she made some good friends but then she and the main guy didn't interact that much, maybe they exchange words like a 10% from what i read at least.
And oh boy this book has a 3 year time jump and I hate those but i liked to see a different side of her, a more powerful and independent woman but again i wasn't that invested on their battle against their enemies, i wanted more romance

Good

Once again it started strong then tapered off. The first chapter is almost a rewrite of a beauty and the beast movie. But thankfully it ended there. The story took some twists and turns I was enjoying but a few things just stuck with me as wrong.
-always collect your fallen comrades, no man left behind and all that.
-at the climactic end, Clara is sent away but that’s the last we see or hear of her. Not even in the epilogue. Wtf
-pretty sure Dmitri was named Thomas in the last book.

I love this series by Melody Raven aka Mallory Crowe and Beauty and the Shapeshifter is another stellar read in the series. The enticing book blurb is 100% accurate in the story description and the story really delivers. I couldn't put this book down. The writing is wonderful (I expect nothing less from Mallory Crowe) and it's a great mix of supernatural romance, danger, and action. Ella is a tough, kicka$$ heroine and dark broody Lucian is a powerful and protective hero. This book is a great read and I loved it.

Oh man...talk about smexy! I love it when the girl makes the guy fight for it! I love this whole mythical element to this story. You got a strong woman who's more than she appears and a sinfully hot man! The whole family dynamic of the characters I really like. This was just a great story, which is the first of this series I read...you could totally read it as a stand alone, but the overall arc made me want to read the series! Great fast paced writing, great character building for this to be the 5th book of this series! Can't wait to start this from the beginning!

Cool story.

I really liked the story. This was my first in the series. Does have a beauty and the beast vibe and undertone. I liked how she was strong and fought back. But I was a little annoyed with how she fought the attraction to Lucian. I mean I get the initial problem with how they met but she volunteered to save her father. And he never hurt her. Just wanted to learn from her. And then to not even tell him about his kid. Lucian was amazing with Clara. Liked how they all got a HEA. yay for Cade.

A hit for Melody Raven!!

This is Beauty And The Shapeshifter, book 5 of the Evil Rising series written by Melody Raven. How can the monsters become the good guys? That’s easy...let Ms Raven write about them. I found myself cheering for the Monsters from the very beginning. You are going to love Ella and the relationship that she has with Lucien and his closest friends. I’m just sad that this series isn’t twice as long as is!

Definitely a different take

Beauty and the beast with vamps....you will want to read all about it!! Learning her origins while trying to save her father, turns Ellas world upside down....not least discovering that vamps are real. Love, family, survival and enemies are abound in this romantic adventure. Great writing and a good.pace. The first of this series I've read but will be looking at the others.

The retelling of Beauty and the Beast in a supernatural world is a great concept. Lucian is a myotis who is trying to save his race. To do that, experiments have to be carried out. This is how he meets Ella. From then on the story becomes fascinating.

The characters are well portrayed and the battle between vampires and myotis is engaging. It's a good read, except that it felt a little rushed at the end.

Really Good Series

We met Lucian in an earlier book and his story as a Myotis looking to save his species is a good one. Meeting Ella changes his world in so many ways and the surprise of their union is a great part of the story.

I’ve very much enjoyed this series and hope there are more down the road. The world of vampires, werewolves, shifters and Myotis is pure reading enjoyment.

Loved the story

I've read more than a few takes on Beauty and the Beast, even a few with a paranormal twist. This story had the paranormal twist, as well as a few other turns that made it unique and a good story. It was well written, a great cast of characters, and had a few twists I wasn't expecting.

Lovely! I enjoyed that even while this was a Beauty and the Beast story, neither the plot nor the vampire/shifter lore was standard. All of it was the author's creative take, and I really enjoyed all of it. I haven't read the rest of the series, but I plan to go search for them to see if they're as good.

Well written and intense.

The story is well written.
I wouldn't suggest jumping in the middle of the series. I'm not sure of everything that is going on. Would be better to start at the beginning.
There are murder scenes and captivity. If these are triggers for you I wouldn't suggest this book.

Not what I expected . Not the kind of shifter you usually read in books. Just different. The book wasn't bad. Just not one I was into reading.
