FTC Disclosure: I won this book on Goodreads. These are my honest thoughts.

This book was a good finale to the Brookstone Brides series. I still adored the Wild West show and how much of a role it played in the plot. The fact that this series had several threads arced through all three books made me smile so much. A series that’s actually a series! That’s my cup of tea right there.

Ella Fleming was the lead, and I was so glad to see that. She came into the first book, and I immediately took to her so much that I hoped for a book and a half that she’d get the spotlight shined on her. So my heart is happy because that came true.

The twists and turns in this book were surprising and natural to the plot. They kept the chapters flying by, and I found myself either holding my breath or gasping more often than not. I really enjoyed this story, but even more, I enjoyed this entire series.

I especially enjoyed how alcoholism was shown to be a negative thing (which it is) and that it is possible to overcome it once a person turns to God Almighty. This over-arching theme was wonderfully expressed throughout the series, and I think it came to a great end in this particular story.

In the final book of the series, the focus is on Ella and Phillip. Ella continues to be on the run from her former "fiance" and Phillip is battling bad decisions and alcoholism. I liked the inclusion of Mara as a main secondary character.

Overall, this was a good series and enjoyed getting to know more about the life of a performer during the time period. This novel was my least favorite of the three, but it was good.

What Comes My Way by Tracie Peterson is the final book in the Brookstone Brides trilogy. I thought What Comes My Way was a satisfying conclusion to the series. This is a series of books that you need to read in order. Each book builds upon the previous one with the search for justice for the death of August Reichert running throughout all three books. Ella Fleming had to flee her family farm when Jefferson Spiby wanted her for his bride and her father would not protect her from the letch. Ella has been performing as a trick rider with the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza with her friends, Mary Reichert and Lizzy Brookstone. Ella has come to care for Phillip DeShazer, but the tremendous guilt he feels regarding his part in his father’s death keeps him drinking copious quantities of alcohol. Ella reassures him the God will forgive his sins if only Phillip asks it. Unfortunately, Phillip is not ready. Mary is engaged to Chris Williams and they are planning their wedding. Lizzy and Wes are touring with the show at Rebecca Brookstone’s request. She wants them to keep an eye on Oliver. It is a good thing Lizzy is present because the new seamstress, Amanda Moore has sunk her claws into Oliver. Lizzy does not trust the seamstress who spends more time with Oliver than with a needle and thread. I thought What Comes My Way contained Tracie Peterson’s trademark writing along with strong female characters. Faith, prayer, forgiveness and trusting God are themes that run throughout the story. My favorite phrase is “Trust in God. He is our source of strength.” There is also danger and intrigue in the story. Jefferson Spiby is not about to go down quietly nor let Ella get away so easily. I was very pleased with how What Comes My Way ended. It was nice to see growth from the characters especially Philip. Family, friendship, and faith are the focus of What Comes My Way. Those readers who indulge in historical novels will enjoy the Brookstone Brides trilogy. What Comes My Way is a fulfilling historical novel with handsome horses, tremendous tricks, a malicious murderer, outrageous offenses, caring chums, and persistent Pinkerton agents.

I was so excited to welcome the Brookstone Troupe (plus meet a few new ones) back into my life!
The troupe is back on tour which, of course, means new adventures and troubles.

I was slightly disappointed some of my favorite characters were not further along in their lives and were still struggling with things I'd thought we'd gotten past in the previous two books.
That being said, I was very pleased with how much Phillip Deshazer changed and grew throughout this story.
In the previous books, and beginning of this one Phillip is a struggling alcoholic with a past he refuses to share. He believes he's unforgivable and that if the people he cares about knew the truth they'd hate him. Fortunately the people he cares about have a heart for Christ and His forgiveness.

I was equally impressed by Ella Fleming's ability to overcome. She's endured a lot of heartache where her family is concerned and in this installment of the Brookstone Brides it may have been worse than ever. We're finally given the answers to questions asked in When You Are Near and Wherever You Go.

What Comes My Way was a delightful tale of forgiveness, family and Faith.

A solid story to conclude the ending of the Brookstone Brides series. It's strongly connected to each of the previous books and would not stand alone at all. We have as much content of Lizzie and Mary as we do of Ella, and it's essential to have read the previous books to understand what happened in Ella's past.

It's a gentle story despite the strong thread of a villain in the piece. He's a very unscrupulous villain but I couldn't really think of him as a real threat because I was so sure there would be a happy ending. It's historical fiction, not suspense, after all.

I didn't quite feel the romance very well, though. Ella and Phillip are apart for 90% of the novel and few scenes take place with them together. Because of this lightness to the romance, I can safely recommend it to younger teens.

I did have a bone to pick with the portrayal of the alcoholism. While showing it as a pernicious thing, it isn't mentioned that the addiction is on a strong cellular level and instead it's said that "he drinks because he wants to [cover his conscience with it]." It isn't that alone. Drinking is a habit that often transcends emotions. Another thing I disliked was that Wes never apologized to his wife for leaving her in the dust when he felt his brother needed him. A man is supposed to cleave to his wife FIRST and he was very wrong to chase off after his brother's well-being with no provision for his wife's comfort nor his promise to her and to her uncle.

Overall, it's a solid and satisfying story.

The long awaited conclusion to the Brookstone Brides Trilogy.

What Comes My Way picks up right where the previous book left off, making it a book that I would not recommend reading as a stand alone, as much of the set up is done in previous books, and this is the book where we finally get the answers. I really enjoyed the previous books in the series so picking his one up was a no brainer, in this book we get to know Ella a bit more, as well as Phillip, while still following Lizzie and Wesley from the first book.

Ella has come a long way since the beginning, finding her place as a talented trick rider she feels free from her past. She has grown in her faith and confidence with the help of her friends who have become family. When faces from her past reappear, she must put the past behind her and choose the life that she wants for herself.

Phillip Deshazer struggles with guilt, which shows itself in his overindulgence in strong drink. He must face his demons once and for all if his budding relationship with Ella stands a chance.

Overall, a great ending to a very entertaining and enjoyable series about strong women as they make their way in a wild west show. Ella and Phillip grow over the course of the book, I liked how it continues to follow the main characters from the previous book. Also it ties up many of the loose ends, with a fast paced conclusion, even though the beginning was a bit slow for me. Definitely a must read if you've read the other books the series!

What Comes My Way is the conclusion of Tracie Peterson's Brookstone Brides series. In this book the main Characters are Ella Fleming and Phillip DeShazer. Ella is a trick stunt rider for The Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza, an all woman show. Phillip DeShazer is a wrangler for the show.
Ella left her home in Kentucky when her father tried to force her to marry Jefferson Spiby. He was much older than her and a very cruel man. She didn't love him and the last thing she wanted to do was marry him to please her father. There was also more about this man that kept Ella away from her family.
Phillip DeShazer hides an awful secret in his heart. One so terrible that he has turned to alcohol to keep from thinking about his past. He would love to get to know Ella better and he feels Ella would like to spend time with him too, but with his dependence on alcohol what could he offer her. What could be so awful in Phillip's past that holds him in its powerful grip?
This book held me on the edge of my seat a time or two. It was gripping and unpredictable as the past seemed to catch up to our main characters. Although I enjoyed all three books in this series I felt this one was the best. I would enjoy seeing another book released about Mara and Abe.
This book is for readers of Christian Historical Romance fiction. All fans of Tracie Peterson will love this series. If you have read the other two books in the series you won't want to miss book three.

I am reviewing a copy of What Comes My Way through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:

Ella Fleming is on the run from her past and the secrets that could tear her family apart. She’s a member of the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza, a wild west show comprised of all-female performers, her uncanny talent for trick riding impresses the viewers. It’s only while she’s performing that she can forget the truth about who she really is, which is the daughter of a murderer.

Phillip DeShazer blames himself for his father's death and has done his best to bury his guilt in his work and in drink. But he soon realizes he needs something more so he seeks answers and finds support and kindness from the beautiful Ella Fleming. However, the more she comes to his rescue, the more his guilt grows.

Can Phillip overcome his vices so he and Ella can have their happily ever after?

I love the blend of characters and the author's skill in weaving their stories together. The story about the shows is lovely.
This is a wonderful blend of stories of families, friends, freedom from various bondages, forgiveness and love.
The dialogue between characters was okay for a quiet, slow read.

Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

First let me say that I really like this time period and this could've really been a cool story. The premise definitely had potential, but it did not live up to it, unfortunately.

My main issue was with the writing style. It felt very stilted and like it was more of a first draft. The dialogue was also very choppy and repetitive, not sounding at all like how real people speak. There was so much "tell" instead of "show" in this book, which ultimately just made me feel like I wasn't able to get into the story.

There were multiple POV's in this book, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but the way this author did it, it just wasn't working for me. So many of the characters sounded the same, which caused me to have trouble keeping their storylines straight. I think this book would've been stronger if we'd either stuck to one POV or if each of the POV's had sounded more unique.

I also had a problem with the main villain. Even though we don't see him much in the book, when we do see him he comes across very stereotypically mustauche-twirlingly evil. I don't mind an evil villain, but this one was such a caricature that I had trouble reading his scenes without laughing.

As far as the plot goes, much of it seemed contrived or overly convenient. Generally speaking, it felt like your typical Hallmark-channel western drama. Which... I can see the appeal of for the right audience, but unfortunately for me it just didn't work. I found myself wishing the setting and plot and characters had been fleshed out more.

According to the synopsis, our MC is dealing with the knowledge of her father being a murderer. Not only did that not happen, but we didn't learn about this situation until about halfway through the book. In fact, never in any part of the book did any character remotely THINK this guy was a murderer, let alone even HINT AT him being one. So.... the synopsis was greatly misleading, to say the least, and could've potentially been super spoilery if her father had indeed turned out to be a murderer. I don't know if the author had intended to have that be the story and then changed her mind, but in any case the synopsis shouldn't have been written that way.

All in all, I'm surprised how poorly written this book was. I've never read this author before but I know she has written many books so I would've assumed she could write a better story. Sad to say but I won't be reading any more books by this author.

I did not know that this is the last of a series! I really should be more careful when I make requests.

Most likely because of that I was unable to get into this book. I didn't know the main characters enough and there were many of them.

The writing was good though, and I still enjoyed big parts of the story.

Many thanks Netgalley and Bethany House for the review copy. This is my honest opinion.

Endearing story with a strong emphasis on family values and a plot that was easy to follow.

I enjoyed the setting of the early 20th century with the rodeo show as the backdrop, and while I found the dialogue throughout to be unnatural, I do think the style lends itself to the time in which the story is set. People back then did not talk as we do today. Taking that into consideration however, I still found some of the conversations to be not typical even of that particular time.

The story was easy to read and follow with just the right amount of characters. There were enough different people involved in the story to present a dynamic plot, yet not too many that the reader loses track of who is who and what is happening. I appreciate that in fiction and it is not to be taken for granted. This author found just the right number of characters for a compelling story.

The cast of characters carries the story because nothing of significance or of dramatic interest happens until about 70-80% of the book has been read. At that point, the villain appears and begins to work against one of the protagonists in the story. There were really no dangers to any characters until that point--no real hook to speak of. Usually that would cause me to abandon the book fairly early, but the characters and their emphasis on their families kept me interested in this case. After the villain was finally presented, the resolution is reached fairly quickly, with the villain not even seen as the plot unfolds at the end.

With most of the book hinting at the Old West, there was the hope within this reviewer of more of an Old West resolution. I think most readers would not be surprised that the good guys win in the end, the only question was how will the good guys win. I guess I was looking for a shootout or something similar. Just the fact that the bad guy was taken care of in the background seemed like an afterthought and a missed opportunity to make the story more dramatic when it seemed to be missing drama throughout.

“What Comes My Way” is Tracie Peterson’s third and final instalment of the Brookstone Brides series.  This entire trilogy has taken reader on a unique look behind the scenes of a wild west show, following trick riders, sharp shooters and more!

As the last in the series, “What Comes My Way” shows us the answer to the mystery that has wound its way throughout the first two books.  And while I won’t spoil the conclusion for you, I will say that it is quite unexpected.

At the beginning, this was my favourite book in the series.  Then, three quarters of the way through, the book sort of began to stumble.  The characters acted unnaturally and inconsistently, the story was unconvincing, and the ending was unsatisfying, especially since it was the ending to the entire series.  Also, the book refers to many crimes and injustices, particularly against women.  While these crimes are always depicted as wrong, it can feel as though they are taken a bit too lightly, with the characters sometimes showing little emotion over them.

Still, the book does have some redeeming qualities to it as well.  Unconditional love, respect for others, faith in God, and healing yourself before entering into a serious relationship are all themes that are portrayed well throughout this story.  Overall, the Brookstone Brides is a series that I am glad to have read, and while the finale was not what I had hoped, it certainly does not make me regret picking up these three books.

What Comes My Way is the third book in the Brookstone Brides series. I was blessed to read the other two and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this story. I first met Ella in When You are Near and was anxiously awaiting her story. Peterson did not disappoint. Ella was raised with the best things life had to offer. When her father told her she would marry a man way older than her, who was also known to be mean and unforgiving, Ella had a choice to make. The Brookstone family being so close seemed to be God’s answer of a way for her to escape. In this story Ella has been traveling and preforming along with her friends who also happen to be some pretty talented women. Ella’s heart has a mind of it’s own, and it can’t help but care for Phillip, a wrangler for the troupe. Coming to his rescue far too often, Ella knows Phillip has a past and it’s not one he wants to talk about. She also knows that often talking about it and turning it over to God are the best things anyone can do. Danger is never far behind and Ella knows her former fiance won’t give her up easily. Can Ella and Phillip move beyond their past to a future where they belong together? I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction. I didn't realize this was the third book in the series until about halfway through when I happened upon the first one at the library. I then picked up the first one which explained a lot, but I don't think it's necessary to read. You can still figure everything out if you decide to only read the third book. Although they are not stand alones necessarily like her Sapphire Brides or Land of Shining Waters ones(and this is extremely different from any of those. Probably more like her Texas ones.)
I loved the strong women theme, the horses, the performing. The series reminded me of when I performed in Calamity Jane or Annie Get Your Gun. Or if you like Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken, or any sort of circus type book-though it's not the circus, there's that feel.
They're fast paced books about unusually talented women. In this one Ella, has a bit of a past she's running from that she doesn't want anyone to know about which adds to the plot. Tracie Peterson is one of my favorite authors and I've read all twenty something books by her that my library owns. If you love Peterson it's another fun and fast paced read by her. I feel like her series keep getting better with time because this is one of my favorite trilogies of hers.

1902. Jump right back into the drama! This is such a memorable series that you'll have no problem doing so. After all, this is a wild west show, with riding and shooting tricks, and it's all girls. Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza is an all-female show filled with women of extraordinary beauty and bravery. Their families and support staff go along as well, weaving a rich story. There are personal struggles, mystery, danger and breathtaking suspense as they travel the United States and Europe. Lots of wonderful Christian lessons, as Tracie does best, especially forgiveness. Secrets are uncovered, lives are changed. A special group of people, all endearing and easy to be attached to. Excellent read!

This is the third and, I think, the final book in the Brookstone Brides series and I think I liked it the best of all of them. I will be honest, this whole series has seemed a bit cheesy to me in the way everything worked out for everyone.

In this final installment, Ella and Philip finally get things figured out and the mystery of Mary's brother's death is also figured out and dealt with. There was a bit more suspense and intrigue in this book and I enjoyed it more for that fact.

I was impressed with Philip's determination to straighten out his life, as well as the family loyalty Wes also displayed in being willing to help him.

The whole female rodeo concept is also very interesting to me and I enjoyed reading about the tricks they did and the attention they garnered. The skill and expertise that is required are just amazing.

Overall, this is not Tracie's finest writing. That is not to say that someone else wouldn't enjoy it, it's just, for me, there are other series she has written that I have enjoyed much, much more.

As the series comes to a close, I find myself already missing this cast of amazing men and women. Although the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza featured an all-women team of trick riders and sharp-shooters, there’s plenty of romance to be found between them and the men who help with the show.

This time, it’s Ella and Phillip’s turn, even though the story does bounce around between the entire cast of characters. We even get a deeper glimpse into Myra and Abe’s romance, which strengthened the story.

Phillip’s struggle with alcohol and Ella’s family troubles keep them apart as they each work toward being the person God would have them be before they are ready to pledge their lives to one another. While we are given so many different perspectives through the point-of-view of many characters, hearing more from Phillip as he recovered would not have hurt my feelings.

Instead of being centered around the show, What Comes My Way sets itself more in the travel between shows and the ranches owned by the Brookstones and Flemings. It’s time to find justice for August. I found I liked this change in setting, even though it separated the characters.

I loved this story. The friendship between the entire crew, their willingness to drop everything and help each other, brought the story home. Tracie Peterson once again allowed for deep Godly conversations and the redemption of characters who thought themselves beyond hope. Ella’s conversation with Phillip about that very thing settled deep in my heart. We are each precious in God’s sight and His son died for everyone. He doesn’t pick and choose, worthy versus unworthy. We are all unworthy and God loves us anyway.

This was a beautiful story about God’s love and His promise that He is always with us, no matter what may come our way.

This book deserves 5 stars and more!!
Tracie is a very talented author that can weave a wonderful story just like this one.
I really enjoyed this series! This Will be my 2nd favorite series of Tracie's books.
All of our questions are answered in this last book. What better way to wrap up a series than this.
Action packed with some mystery thrown in from the beginning will leave you turning the pages to see what happens next. Trust me you will be up late at night trying to finish this book because you won't want to put it down!!
In this book Ella has joined the Wild West Show that is ran by all women.
Ella joins for a certain reason but I won't tell you what it is because I don't want to give anything away!
We meet some interesting characters in this wrap up. I loved them all though.
The covers of these books are wonderful with one even looking similar to Kimberley Woodhouse!! Just wow! I loved each and every cover.
I recommend this series

What Comes My Way by Tracie Peterson is a wonderful way to end the Brookstone Brides series. I loved hanging out with these characters and watching them change and fall in love by the end of the series. With What Comes My Way, Peterson tied up a lot of loose ends and allowed the predictable romance to follow its path. Even though I knew how the romance would play out, I was still invested each of the characters' lives and couldn't wait to see how the story ended. Not much a spiritual element to the plot, but overall, the characters lived out God' s love in their stories. Organically included in the story. I enjoyed it that way. The plot was wonderfully written, and I really can't wait to buy all three novels and place them on my keeper shelf. I believe anyone who enjoys historical stories should pick up this novel and leave reality for a couple of hours.

Thank you to Bethany House for the free review copy. All opinions are my own.

I just want to preface this with that this is book #3 in the Brookstone Brides series, and they do need to be read in order for the books to make sense. Here are my reviews for books  #1 and book #2.
I loved being back with the characters of this series in this book. It was great to have a conclusion for Lizzy, Mary, and Ella. Each woman had come so far over the course of this series, and it was great to see them grow and develop. This book does focus more heavily on Ella and the problems that she has had with her past. She also has to figure out what is right for her future.

The thing that I struggled with with this book is that it felt rushed, which I feel affected the writing style. There was a lot of telling happening in this story instead of showing. With it being rushed, I feel like the book almost took on too many issues and subplots to make it a solid story.

I would still recommend this series because of the strong, female characters. Also, the Wild West Show setting is so interesting.

What Comes My Way is the third installment in the Brookstone brides series. The cover and description of a Wild West show that is all female is what hooked me. I have not read the first two books. I think this book can stand alone as the author gives some background information about the characters so you know a little about the supporting ones. That being said, I would like to know more about them and plan on reading the first two books.
God’s love, His forgiveness and reliance on Him are central themes throughout.
Ella has family issues that are very upsetting to her and remain central to the story. Her tale of family and friends with a romantic interest is very sweet. The western theme with the trick riding and shooting was fun to read about. I would have liked more about that. All in all it was a nice easy read.

I really enjoyed this whole series. I wish wild west shows would be more prevalent today. It was fun to read more about trick riding and trick shooting. I don’t think I could be as still as Chris was when Mary was shooting at things held in his mouth. It was an exciting time in history and Peterson portrays it in a compelling way.

I love closure so I was glad to see that the series finished up well, tying up the loose ends. The mystery of what happened to Mary’s brother was solved. There were big twists and the reality was unthinkably awful. It was nice seeing Philip grow and change.

This was a satisfying conclusion to the Brookstone Brides series. I’d highly recommend it and the series. Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

(4.5 stars) - favorite of the series!

[This is the eagerly awaited conclusion of Tracie Peterson's Brookstone Brides trilogy. While it is capable of standing alone, I do recommend reading the series for a fuller appreciation of the story]

Ella has made her place in the Brookstone show, but her past isn't done with her yet. Phillip's past is haunting him in a different way, but it's making it really hard to quit drinking.

This one is the most action packed and suspenseful of the three & was very exciting. The conclusion wraps everything up satisfactorily & happily. This is one of Tracie Peterson's best series to date!

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses
*Religion: overtly Christian, characters' religious discussions are fairly generic. Non-Christians will likely find it a tad preachy, but excepting those disposed to be annoyed, it's easily skimmed

Each book in this trilogy has focused on one of the main characters—Mary, Lizzie, Ella. Add in a host of characters readers come to know and become invested in.

Ella has been on the run from an evil suitor. When her brother brings her childhood companion and maid Mara to protect her, Ella begins to realize what her father has been involved in with her former suitor and it breaks her heart. Is she ready to know the full truth? What about Phillip who holds her heart? Will he give up alcohol and find forgiveness in Christ or will she have to let him go forever?

This book, while focusing on Ella’s story, draws all the threads together, answering questions and leaving readers with a sense of satisfaction.

I’ve loved Tracie Peterson’s talented storytelling for numerous years; What Comes My Way, her most recent release confirms my love.

The third in the series, Brookstone Brides, Ella Fleming is a highly skilled member of the Brookstone Wild West Extravaganza, an all-female show. Trick riding is her thing and she is mighty fine at it; she’s also mighty fine at hiding family secrets.

Phillip DeShazer has his own secrets, secrets that have driven him to drink. He’s attracted to the pretty Ella Fleming, but doesn’t feel he’s worthy of her.
When Ella promises to wait for him, Phil determines to give up the drink once and for all.

What Comes My Way is a fun trip to the past of Wild West shows, with all the excitement, and drama, the history books tell about. Highly recommend.

What Comes My Way is a fitting ending to the Brookstone Brides trilogy. Drama from the first book is finally resolved in an exciting fashion. Although themed as Ella and Phillip’s story, the beginning of the book is once again more about Lizzy and Wes. I liked hearing more of their story, but as with the second book I wanted a more dominant storyline as opposed to a few that were on equal footing. However at the end the main focus was Ella and Phillip and the dangerous conclusion to their story. This book was much less about the Wild West show and more about settling down. It made the final wrap up satisfying for all of the characters from across the three books. Overall, these were entertaining little reads.

Book Three. About half way through I thought why are all these books about a woman helping a man find God? (Remember I didn't realize these were religious fiction when I picked them up from the library.) Surely these men can find religion without a woman bringing him there. I don't need a damsel in distress story but I'm definitely not looking for the woman saves the bad boy story. I guess if I'm not looking for either of those that romance might not be the right genre for me. Anyway, the last 1/3 of the book really picked and started a separate plot from the second book. It was an enjoyable quick read.

A great conclusion to the series. I really enjoyed the characters and the settings throughout.
It was easy to care about the whole cast, well, except for a couple not-s0-nice ones.

It's no wonder that Tracie Peterson is one of my favorite authors. She always puts out some fantastic books. This one really focused on family and its value. I especially liked that the author emphasized that family doesn't have to be blood relatives. The key is caring and sharing love.

If you enjoy historical fiction you'll like this series. If you enjoy trick riding horses, you'll be in for a special treat.

What Come’s My Way
By Tracie Peterson
I was excited to read the end of the Brookstone Brides series. Although I was eager to discover how this story would end, I felt the story line was repetitive of the previous book in this series. I was also thrown off by the drama of the series. It seemed like there were very large issues happening to the characters but I was not impressed with how they approached each situation. It was an easy to read book and well written but not a favorite.
I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
