I have been really involved with this series. The author did a great job of developing her characters and building the apocalyptic world they live in. Her descriptions painted great mind pictures for the reader. Her storyline had suspense, twists, and turns. All the makings of a great book.
What I found disappointing was the frequent use of the "F" word. There was no need to use that word. Books one and two were basically clean reads. Also, the editing was lax. Sloane and Sloan were often interchanged. Words were missing or extra words added in sentences. Some threads of the story were hastily and confusedly brought to a conclusion. I still have unanswered questions. The ending seemed to have been hastily put together.
If her other books are not clean, I will not be reading them.
Sloane Delaney and the community of Cannon Beach, Oregon have come together to take back their town and fight those that seek to stop them. Tale, the imposed king of Astoria, has other plans for these good folks. Sloane’s group has no intention of backing down. They will stand their ground no matter what it takes.
Shaw’s third novel in the Dawn of Deception Series, Unbeaten: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller is the classic David and Goliath story. It takes a lot of training and dedication to survive in this new world. With the right plans in place, a smaller force can overtake a larger, more complacent one.
It’s sad to see this series come to an end. Sloane has been such an inspirational female protagonist. She has become an unwitting leader and is respected among her peers.
Unbeaten - dawn of deception #3 rounded out the series (though I had purchased the box set earlier :( Annette used each character's voice and also left one hanging as she shifted from one to the other thus making the reader having to wait to see what was happening. Plenty of suspense and not recommended for late night reading. The teenager, Wren, was given the task of rebellious teenager, Sloane, her over-caring mother, who also rose to the occasion of leading the survivors to protect themselves from Tale and the baddies. Lot of psychological angst amongst Tale's followers who were threatened regarding their children and wives. There were some good ones amongst them but only a handful. We don't know if the heroes lived happily ever after but I guess Annette will show us #4 soon enough.
The third in the series caps off some very entertaining reading of this post-apocalyptic story. The fight is taken to the thugs from Astoria, that attempt to wreak havoc on our small community at Cannon Beach, and there are some interesting changes in loyalty as the story develops. Sloane becomes the tactician for the Cannon Beach crew and in a master stroke, the raiding party from Astoria, sent to teach the team at Cannon Beach a lesson are disposed of, with one captured and Davis, the leader sent packing. Jason is enlisted by Sloane to track Davis but Wren follows Jason and when she is captured by Davis, Jason intervenes and is himself captured and returned to Astoria. From there the story develops further as Sloane and company attempt the rescue of Jason, and eventually the ruthless thug Tale is taken down after some vicious fighting following Davis’s imprisonment and subsequent escape after another former colleague, Ivan provides assistance for his breakout. With a developing story this book entertains the reader from beginning to end. A great read! Moses
I tacky enjoyed Tsing this series and going through all the ups and downs of the main characters. Sloane is reminiscent of the Sarah Connor character from the genuine series, with a touch more softness and heart. From learning to defend herself, her family and her home to becoming a leader of the ragtag community; the evolution of her, her daughters and the all important Dr Kent are tremendously satisfying to be a part of. The amazing A R Shaw delivers once again!
Very much enjoyed this book - the third in the series. As always with Shaw’s books I am left wanting more - wanting another book with more adventures, more newly formed relationships, more loving, more plans, more struggles and, most of all, more her great characters. I have now completed all three of her series and the French Wardrobe and would love to know what’s next!
Dawn of Deception series is awesome. That doesn't even come close to giving it the credit it is due. First of all the fact that a woman is so strong is refreshing. This series gets real about so many things that are going to happen. When so called law and order is gone. What are you going to be willing to do. To keep your loved ones safe? This series makes you take a good hard look at that and a lot more. Great read! Thanks A.R. Shaw my favorite new author!
These 3 bucks are absolutely amazing as they had me shed a tear or 2 now if you would know me personally You would now I'm cheap so these books had to be good cause otherwise I wouldn't have spent 7.99 This is the type of series that you never forget so take my word by all 3 because you won't be able to put them down
A fast paced ripping read engaging characters and well thought out story line kept me reading from one book to another and as I'm an avid reader of this type of story line this shows me the strengths of the writer to keep me engaged like this , well done A.R. Shaw , on to your next book now .
Enjoyed the series, though the language was harsh. Didn’t like when they swore with God’s name. He’s the only One that sent His Son so we can escape before events like this take place. “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Just loved the quick paced action of this series as well as all of the well developed characters. Kept me on the edge of my seat and terribly disappointed when it ended.
I loved this series of books. They were short reads, but that's nice once in a while. I believe she kind of gave a hint when the book descriptions were so small…not much to make you really want to read it. They were kind of exciting…oh, I guess I want to follow her lead and not write too much.
I recommend this series to anyone and everyone All books are full of people happening Relatable situations and great at keeping your attention Excellent read
This book has held my attention from start to finish. All the books did. Guaranteed to get you thinking about life today and how it can turn into this real quick. Enjoyable.
I enjoyed this series a lot and I lost a lot of sleep tonight trying to finish it. The suspense drove me on. Did Jason make it? Was Ivan going to be friendly? Could they find Tale and eliminate him? Now I can catch up on the sleep I lost. I loved this series.
I finished this book in a day! My heart was in my mouth so many times as the colony fought to survive and triumph over the morally corrupt gang master.
