The Gossip File

The Gossip File:

-Chandra lets little kids pee in the pool.
-Melody stole $ from the cafe register.
-Ava isn’t who she says she is…

Ava is cool. Ava is confident. Ava is really Rachel Lee who is lying her butt off.
Rachel is visiting her dad at a resort in sunny Florida and is ready for two weeks of relaxing poolside, trips to Disney World and NOT scrubbing toilets. Until her dad’s new girlfriend, Ellie, begs Rachel to help out at her short-staffed cafe. That’s when Rachel kinda sorta adopts a new identity to impress the cool, older girls who work there. Ava is everything Rachel wishes she could be. But when the girls ask “Ava” to help add juicy resort gossip to their file, Rachel’s not sure what to do…especially when one of the entries is a secret about Ellie.

Rachel Lee always has the best intentions, but they often land her in hot water! Wanting to leave behind her deceitful ways, Rachel embarks on a trip to visit her dad in Florida. But it isn't turning out how she had hoped. Instead of reconnecting with her father, Rachel ends up staying with his new girlfriend Ellie, spending hardly any time at all with her dad, and working in the cafe at the hotel where Ellie works. Then she accidentally lets the older girls at the cafe think she's Ava, a much cooler, more confident version of Rachel. And now she must contribute to their gossip file, which includes some juicy tidbits about Ellie. Somehow Rachel always ends up in a mess and this may be her worse one yet!

THE GOSSIP FILE by Anna Staniszewski is the third book in The Dirt Diary series and follows in the footsteps of the first two. Rachel never means to be untruthful, but somehow her shy personality and the crazy situations she gets herself into inevitably lead to lies. I've thoroughly enjoyed getting mixed up in all of Rachel's shenanigans time and time again. Her sweet inside personality is so often at odds with how she ends up acting, but it never feels out of character...it's just part of being Rachel Lee. And always, Rachel's quirky voice shines through. Another fun read!

The Gossip File (Dirt Diary #3) by Anna Stanisewski

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

My review -

When I requested this book, I was not aware that it was in a series. If I had known, I probably would have read the first book and then stopped the series. Let me explain why – I HATED the main character, Rachel. She said she makes every decision to benefit the people she loves. SHE DOESN’T!!!!! She writes down things she knows could be hurtful is they get out on something that others will see and even leaves it in a somewhat obvious place where her dad’s girlfriend’s son can find it. He does and it dramatically affects her relationship with everyone. She lies about who she is and that makes her dad and her new friends very upset. Rachel decides to try and break her dad and his girlfriend up after she sees ONE NOTE saying how she always tries to be perfect. I about threw my Kindle at the wall because she is so annoying and naive!!!! She knows that she isn’t good at schemes and knows things she’s done before but SHE DOES THEM ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

The plot of the book is that Rachel goes to Florida to visit her dad and his girlfriend. She is unwillingly drafted into helping at the cafe that Ellie, her dad’s girlfriend, runs. There is a book that people write secrets about the resort called the Gossip File. She lies about who she is and does all of the things I mentioned above.

Rating: Two stars. I liked the story a little bit but whenever Rachel did something, I dreaded reading anything that had to do with her. She does not think about what she does, she just does what she thinks.

Loved it or hated it: I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. If you do not like dumb characters who don’t think and just do, this is definitely not the book for you!

This is book is about a girl named Rachel who wants to visit her dad and spend every second with him but when she gets introduced to his girl friend that is planning on proposing to Rachel's dad everything starts to get horrible. Rachel's dad's girlfriends takes over everything and Rachel's dad spends more time with her then Rachel. When Rachel finally asks her Dad if they can go to Disney together, The girlfriend jump's in the conversation and invited herself to Disney to go as a "family Vacation" I likes this book because it was super interesting.

This was a pretty cute, little story. It's a change of scenery from the past two, taking place in Florida where Rachel's dad lives.

I really missed Evan (boyfriend) and Marisol and Mom and her boyfriend, so I kept having a hard time getting into it.

There's immediate tension with Rachel and her dad's girlfriend, Ellie, clashing. Ellie is irritating and selfish and it is easy to use her, but the conflicts weren't as tight or as interesting. I think it's the weakest in the series so far, but my students will really relate to the tension of the split family and trying to impress friends.

This book is about Rachel. She visited her dad at a resort in Florida and she is ready for two weeks of relaxing. But her dad's new girlfriend, Ellie ask her to work at the cafe. She's suppose to spend more time with her dad because that is why she went Florida but she spend more time working. Her dad mostly spend more time with Ellie. I really like this book because I can relate to it and it's awesome!!

This book is about a girl name Rachel who is visiting her dad in Florida. She was planning to go Disneyland to have a great time. But her dad's girlfriend, Ellie beg Rachel to help out at the cafe. Ellie is taking control and Rachel has to work at the cafe for the first week. Rachel supposed to spend more time with her dad not work at the cafe. I like this book because the author made a lot of details and Rachel has a crazy file.

I thought this book was pretty good, with loveable Rachel and her dad again. I think it was very relatable, with her side persona that was the person she wants to be- I mean, who doesn’t sometimes want to be someone else?
I was a little surprised by how I did not love this one as much as the original, The Dirt Diary. I felt as Anna Staniszewski’s voice was incredible once more, but I did not love how much she continuously hated Ellie throughout the story. I think that a lot of kids could relate to this with parents getting remarried, and even though I did not love it, it had a good message altogether.
I did really like the exposition, but the middle of the story and the climax were just okay. I did not like the ending, where nothing really gets fixed in a satisfactory way.
If you liked The Dirt Diary, I would read this book!
Thank you 😊

When I started to read the first book of the series, I never thought that I'm gonna like this kind of story. But surprisingly, I did. I always love how Rachel Lee always "created" troubles but in the end she always found the ways to fix it (kinda my kind of guilty pleasure reason why I read the entire series of Kinsella's Shopaholic series).

This time, Rachel visited his Dad in Florida. She thought she gonna have a great vacation to Disneyland and had a great quality daddy-daughter time since her parents separated away. But unfotunately, everything not happened as she always wanted it. Dad's girlfriend, Ellie, tried to controlled their time, so Rachel barely had time with her Dad two alone. Ellie also smoothly forced her to worked at the resort café, in which she found a book called Gossip File, a book that everything imperfect about the perfect resort written. So many troubles came and came in Rachel's life. And it was fun to read the way she tried to out of it :)

I found a huge message in this story, while Rachel think how damaged her family was: That every perfect family have something imperfect in it. And it's called life. Since the target of this book probably middle grade, I believe it would be a strong message. Like everyone usually said, sometimes children are the best teachers among adults, no matter what.

This book is about a girl named Rachel who has done so crazy things so that she can go see her dad. The only problem is that he lives in Florida and that is super far from her usual home ( this is the problems in the other books). Anyways Rachel finally comes up with the money and goes to Florida and she was a little nervous to see her dad's girlfriend that she has never meet before. Along the way Rachel might stub upon so difficultly with her dad's girlfriend that might make her be sent home. And she can't for get about how she got a job and maybe lying to make her seem a little more cooler or was it worst what she wrote in the gossip file. At the end will Rachel never see her dad again for the mistakes she has done or will her dad never see his girlfriend again.
I would rate this book a 3 because it was amazing and the author made so many details. But the only thing I did not like was the vocabulary because it was very simply words.

Rachel Lee is like any other girl in her highschool. She loves to bake and usually goes to her best friends for help whenever she needs it. She never noiticed how she wanted things to be perfect. But it all takes a turn when she decides to visit her dad in florida. When Rachel went to visit she didn't see who she knew as her dad a year ago. When Rachel is asked to work in the cafe at the resort, she is called by a different name. Her name was Ava. When Rachel first met her dads girlfriend, she liked her. But things took a turn for the worse, and Rachel would do anything to stop her father and Ellie from tying the knot. Will she be able to stop this with her working as a different identity or will she fail and lose her father forever

I received this book by a goodreads giveaway and I really like it.
At the beginning I was hoping to read some romance but it was kind of disappointing that there was no romance. I am a romance reader and this book was able to capture my attention and made me wanted to read it more and more with out any use of romance. The book was good but I think it was not for my age, I am sure that middle schoolers would absolutely enjoy it. I hope I can be able to read the next books.

Rachel is a regular teenage girl with divorced parents. Her dad moved to Florida while Rachel lived with her mom. While in Florida Rachel’s dad had found someone new and they started dating. In the middle of trying to look for new houses to move to Rachel gets invited to see her dad.
On the way to the airport, Rachel wonders if her boyfriend is going to kiss her. She is also nervous to meet Ellie and Caleb. At the same time, she is happy she’s going to see her dad but sad she’s leaving her boyfriend. When they get to the airport her mom gives her boyfriend and Rachel alone time before they leave. Rachel tells him she's sorry for the ride back home with her mom. Then she's off to the plain after saying goodbye to her mom.
When she arrives in Florida she finds her dad and she meets his girlfriend Ellie and her son Caleb. They went out to dinner and Rachel went to the bathroom and she was looking at herself in the mirror and wanted to make her hair poofy so she goes to flip her hair and then she bangs her head on the sink and passes out. With Rachel being in the bathroom for so long her dad and Ellie get worried about her. They get in and did not have any serious cuts.
A few days after that Ellie asks Rachel to work at a cafe with two other girls and their names are Carrie and Marisol while business is slow Rachel gets hungry and makes a little snack with what she's learned to bake and then she ended up selling it and business started to pick up.
After that a few days later Rachel came home to Caleb something for inventors because he wanted to be like his dad. But Rachel tells him to not give up and she helped him with it for a little while. Caleb found a file later that Carrie and Marisole convinced Rachel to write in called the gossip file and when he did he showed her dad. She was forced to apologize and her dad was getting fed up with her behavior so he was getting ready to send her home until she apologized.
Rachel ends up getting accused of stealing money from the cafe because Carrie and Marisole have blamed her and she was to pay it off then her dad was sending her home because he was done with it all until something happens and everything started to get better. When she was going back to live with her mom everything was fine and her dad was sad to see her go.

Okay, I've read a lot of books where someone changes themselves, and this one was pretty similar to those. BUT it was also different because of certain elements. Before I begin the review: CATIUON! There are some light spoilers from the beginning of the series as well as the actual book. The more major spoilers will be in the thing, so if you don't mind some light/ not really major spoilers, then lets get started!!

Okay, the start of the book is really weird. Rachel is a complete goof at the airport, and I honestly don't know how she acts like that in public or at all. But, she does have something amazing happen to her, which is pretty cool (that spoiler is WAY too big for a review) .... so if you want to know what that is, then I highly recommend reading this book!
There are some funny scenes in the book, but I feel like this is the most serious book in the entire series. Sure, the other books had their own tensions, but so far, I feel like there was way more drama in this book... The fact that Rachel is visiting her dad and the rest of the book is driven on the dynamic between them and his girlfriend (who is really preppy and literally SOOOOOO annoying... I mean, do you really want to wear the same thing as your dad's boyfriend? Yeah, I thought so)
But this book gets to explore Rachel's character WAY MORE. She really learns a lot about herself, which is great. Rachel really is becoming a young woman, not just in this book, but gradually through the series she's becoming much more confident and brave.
I highly recommend reading this book, as well as the rest of the series. I think that there's one more book after this, so I'm excited to read that. I hope that you try out this book. It's really good!

I have recently read the Gossip File written by Anna Staniszewski. This book is about a teen girl named Rachel who is going to Florida to visit her dad! Rachel is super excited and cheerful about spending one on one time with her father who she hasn't seen for some time. When Rachel arrives in Florida her dad introduces her to his girlfriend Ellie. After a few days pass Rachel despises Ellie, because she always controlling and wants to be apart of what Rachel and her father are planning on doing. Ellie sends Rachel to work at the cafe in the hotel she works at which peeves Rachel, because she is wanting to enjoy her time with her father. Rachel meets some friends at the cafe that are considered "cool'. She feels as if she cannot fit in so she changes her name to Ava and acts as if she is a completely different person. Rachel's vacation is not going as planned so far. Will her vacation get better as time passes? What will happen to Rachel's dad and Ellie? Will the end of the vacation time be more enjoyable.

I personally loved this book! It was super girly which is totally my style of book. I felt as if this book kept me on the edge of my seat wanting to keep reading! It was full of gossip mixed with a little bit of suspense. I think this was definitely one of the best books I have ever read, and I was totally impressed with it!

I would recommend this book to teen girls from the age of thirteen to fifteen. I think this because the text size is appropriate for middle school readers. This book is definitely a girl book because it talks about some drama and girl talk that can be super relatable to. The Gossip File is totally a book to read, and I would even recommend it to my enemies.

...What was this book?

While it was quite entertaining (as per usual), I feel like aspects of this book were very unbelievable. Rachel's antics for one thing were getting on my nerves, so was the character of Ellie. Though I did like the ending, especially that beautiful scene with Ellie where we learn that (which ended up being my favorite scene in the book), it felt a little contrived in places. The characters seemed to fit into carefully selected stereotype boxes, and the plot was a bit jumpy. However, Ms Staniszewski somehow managed to tie up every loose end and keep this book entertaining, which means it rates as a pretty likable success in my book!

And hey, it's a book all about a Rachel! How could I not love it? ;)

Rachel’s Dad has a Girlfriend named Ellie & they both work at a resort in Orlando. Ellie asks Rachel to work in a cafe at the resort since a girl Ava decided not to work after getting hired. The girls at the cafe think Rachel is Ava and Rachel is very shy just keeps them believing she is Ava. It helps Rachel’s confidence being someone else. Ellie wants to marry her dad & plans on doing it when they go to Disney. Rachel ends up lying to Ellie about going with friends so then her cover is blown and they know her real name. Her dad finds out that she lied and they decided to send her home. Rachel gets framed but the girl comes clean and eventually everything works out.

The theme is respectful Rachelle goes to Florida to see his dad and ends up staying with his girlfriend who has a kid. Ellie has more nice clothes and Rachelle looks at her old t-shirt and pants which aren't classy. Ellie tells Rachael she plans on proposing to her Dad Rachelle is stunned this was a vacation and now it doesn't seem like it. She ends up working for her vacation and ends up being popular. She has to write in a book gossip and she writes about how Ellie wants everything perfect and writes that Ellie child father doesn't want him around......

WARNING: I might change this review later

Oh my goodness, Ellie and Rachel’s dad are the WORST in this book. I actually felt BAD for Rachel. Her mom is better. Also, there’s something near the end of the book that was SO rushed. But, besides that, it was fine.

Also, am I the ONLY one who thinks Rachel is ok in this book? That she ISN’T the worst character in this book? Comment please if you agree with me.

Rachel makes a lot of mistakes. So many, that one may say it's a little annoying. And I agree. Why is Rachel Ava? Because she couldn't work up the courage to tell people WHAT HER NAME IS. Come on!!! And talk about depressing. I felt like the only thing that happened in the book was a bunch of arguing. My actual rating for this book was a 2.5. Why can't something good ever happen to Rachel?

The Dirt Diary by Anna Staniszewski was a great book filled with embarassment, and gossip.. Just the fundamentals for junior high. And I didn't think it could've gotten any better. But I was WRONG! With 2 more installments to the series Staniszewski has truly out done herself. The installment that I chose to write about today was the 3rd one. The gossip file is about Rachel Lee

Read this in two sittings. Rachel is of course ridiculous at times but can't we all relate to her trying to fix everything wrong? This book speaks a lot on divorce and all the troubles that come with it. My parents aren't divorced but this really opened my eyes up to what people go through when their parents get divorced: which parent to live with, money being tight, and more.

I liked the book, it was really fascinating. It shows what can happen to a child in which parents are divorced. It can show a child how to not act in this situation. For me, I believed this showed to me not to gossip. Just be true to yourself and others and try to control your emotions, it is very crucial in life.
