Krista decided to relocate with her 8-year-old daughter, Emily, to Winter Hill, Washington. She’s taking on a new job as city manager and hoping for a new start. Winter Hill seems like a sweet little town, but Krista soon learns that along with this small town comes a huge annual Christmas festival, and as city manager, she’s going to have to get involved. The issue is that Krista really doesn’t like Christmas. Growing up in foster homes, Christmas was never her favorite time of year and only brings back memories or her past. The town seems welcoming at first, but once Krista starts making changes at her new job, everything becomes quite a mess, and it seems like moving to Winter Hill may have been a huge mistake.

Christmas in Winter Hill is a feel-good, clean, holiday read that’s Christmassy enough to get you pumped for the holiday season. The small town setting of Winter Hill was charming, and the main characters were admirable, but the story itself fell just a little flat for me. The issue was just too much business going on in the story with Krista’s job. It’s obviously necessary for the plot, but wasn’t very interesting to me. There’s certainly enough going on: a city hall scrooge, a little romance, and of course Emily’s adjustments to her new school to name a few, but overall this turned out to be just okay for me. A happy ending is always nice, which in this case was a little far-fetched, but it’s sweet, and makes this a good escape read.
Not only did I read the physical hardcover, I also listened to this on Audible. The narrator did a nice job with all the characters. You can listen for free through Audible Escape which is a monthly subscription similar to Kindle Unlimited with tons of titles–mainly romance. It’s hard for me to consider this a romance because there’s so little, but there is a blooming relationship within the story.
Melody Carlson has become a family favorite author in our home. My daughter loves all her Christian YA books and rereads them consistently, which is what turned me on to this author in the first place. While this book is also Christian, it isn’t over the top and anyone can enjoy it. A Christmas by the Sea is one I enjoyed last year and I’ll likely move on to read her other Christmas stories.

Christmas in Winter Hill was a cute, quick, Christmas read. It’s very family centered and light on the romance. The heroine is not a fan of Christmas, but moves to a town that loves it. With the town, along with her daughter, she discovers her love for the holiday. It was a sweet story, but a little short and lacking for me.

I have read everyone of Carlson's Christmas novellas and love them all. Sometimes we just need a feel good Christmas book where everything is perfect and turns out right. I can't for next years Christmas novella. I hope that you will grab a copy of Christmas In Winner Hill and enjoy it as much as I did.

I ended up skim-reading this one. I was expecting something fluffy and happy to deliver me a mild shot of holiday sappiness but, sadly, I didn’t get even that.
The dialogue and style is toneless and soulless and the characters so boring and homogenized, that this book failed to produce any feelings whatsoever.
The story is also, unfortunately, pervaded with the subtle theme that is found in some Christian Christmas stories: that any pray uttered during the holiday season is almost granted a kind of magic. A prayer said at Christmas time can’t fail. By combining the faith and trust of Christianity and the pixie dust of Christmas, all our dreams will come true.
I realize that most authors are trying to preserve the holly jolly feels of Christmas ultra happy endings, but this still smacks of a “prosperity gospel” attitude that not only rubs me the wrong way - it is extra-Biblical.

I'm not sure that I've ever read a true Christmas book before (or ever really had any interest in one). However, I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this short little book with the beautiful cover. I wasn't much in the mood for Christmas after my mother's recent passing, but this helped me feel better and a little lighter about the holidays this year.

Enter Christmasville. Winter Hill is obsessed with Christmas and is famous for it's yearly celebration and festivities. It's actually pretty comical how obsessed they are. Krista begins to have doubts about moving there from the git go. I loved the characters and particularly the daughter, Emily. I will definitely try another of the author's holiday books next year.

I know that Carlson has a huge fanbase for her Christmas stories, but they tend to be hit-or-miss for me. Of the ones I've read so far, three out of four were three star reads. All that to say, I was pleasantly surprised by Christmas in Winter Hill. I guess I expected cheesiness because of the whole "Christmasville" aspect, but it really wasn't as over the top as I thought it would be. Main character Krista's backstory gives her a convincing and empathetic reason for not being a fan of Christmas. The conclusion is not drawn out either, but just long enough to suit a story of this length. The more I think about it, the more I can say that this is my favorite Carlson novel so far.
I listened to the audio version - the narrator does a nice job, and it was a pleasant listen. It took me forever to finish because I'm a seriously slow reader/listener these days, but it's only about 4 hours long.

Every year I look forward to the author's new Christmas book.
To be honest it's a great way to start the holiday season off.
A down on their luck Mom and her daughter are new in Winter Hill.
They are looking to make a new start away from old memories . Is Winter Hill the place for this mom to do it while working for City Hall?
You can run but you can't hide, bad memories will still follow you and is the reason for her distrust .
I loved seeing the enthusiasm of the young daughter as she makes friends in her new town and does something very special for her mother. This story teaches us a valuable lesson, we will get what we need in his timing.
A sweet inspirational fiction book not to be missed.

Ніколи не думала, що різдвяна історія може бути нудною. Виявляється, може! Ось ця - ідеальний приклад того. І цікаво, що мені дуже сподобалися перші дві різдвяні книжки авторки, вона дуже відома саме своїми різдвяними історіями, але це - ну-до-та!

Krista Golloway, recently divorced, has accepted a job as city manager of Winter Hill, Washington. Her daughter, Emily, is excited about seeing snow for the first time. What Krista didn't know was that the annual Christmas festival is a big event in Winter Hill. Krista grew up in multiple foster homes, and after too many disappointing Christmas mornings, she is not a fan of Christmas.
Emily loves Winter Hill, but Krista is ruffling the feathers of some of the more prominent citizens. Can the kindness of some of the townspeople instill the joy of Christmas in Krista's heart?
This would make a fabulous Hallmark movie.

Christmas in Winter Hill by Melody Carlson is by far my favorite book by her. I have read many other books by Melody Carlson and her stories will NOT disappoint you. The cover of this story really pulled me in. All you need is a cozy blanket and cup of tea and you will not want to put this amazing book down.

Krista found out that her husband was also having an affair right before Christmas. Krista and her daughter Emily relocate to Winter Hill, Washington as Krista accepts a new job as the city manager. The holiday season just brings too many bad memories for her.
Winter Hill is known for it's Christmasville celebration, that well, the city manager has to manage. As Krista tries to make their new apartment feel like home, Krista wonders if this move was really a mistake. Melody Carlson’s Christmas books can be hit or miss for me but I really enjoyed this one! This is all about Krista Galloway and her 8 year old daughter Emily who move to Winter Hill, Washington for Krista’s new job as Winter Hill’s city manager. Krista is recently divorced and grew up in foster homes - always having a disappointing Christmas each year. This year, they hope all is different as Emily and Krista start anew in Winter Hill.
This was such a cute, heartwarming Christmas read with all the makings of a beautiful Christmas movie! Some nice faith content, hometown family vibes, wonderful Christmas details - all the fun things you want at Christmas time. 4 stars.

I don't usually read holiday fiction in October, so I wasn't sure how I would feel about this book. Christmas in Winter Hill was a pleasant surprise. I totally felt the Christmas spirit. Krista and her daughter, Emily, are looking for a new beginning. Krista is the new city manager, but she's not a big fan of Christmas. This town is known for its annual Christmasville celebration. In typical small town fashion, there are kind people and gossips. When Krista learns of a possible scandal within the city management, she learns who is on her side and who is not. Emily is doing well, and Krista wants what is best for her daughter. Will this town change Krista's mind about disliking Christmas? Have she and her daughter found their home, or will they pack up and leave? I found this story so charming and warm. Krista is a strong woman who has been dealt a bad hand. Emily is adorable, and I wanted everything to work out for them. The secondary characters really round out the story and are likeable and entertaining. There is a bit of romance, but this is not a romance read. It's a story of new beginnings, learning to trust and opening your heart to those who love you. I quickly read this book, and I recommend for anyone wanting a fast feel good read.

Fall may have just started, but I’m excited about new Christmas books. Every year, I can count on a sweet holiday story from Melody Carlson, and this year’s Christmas in Winter Hill is exactly that.
A new job brings Krista Galloway and her daughter to Winter Hill, Washington just in time for its beloved Christmas celebration. A celebration that it is now Krista’s job to coordinate. Even though she hates Christmas. Is it possible that this Christmas-loving small town can charm her into the holiday spirit?

Fall may have just started, but I’m excited about new Christmas books. Every year, I can count on a sweet holiday story from Melody Carlson, and this year’s Christmas in Winter Hill is exactly that.
A new job brings Krista Galloway and her daughter to Winter Hill, Washington just in time for its beloved Christmas celebration. A celebration that it is now Krista’s job to coordinate. Even though she hates Christmas. Is it possible that this Christmas-loving small town can charm her into the holiday spirit?

A nice little Christmas novella that I did enjoy on this Thanksgiving day. Its about finding a place where you belong which our main character never had until she moved into this town. With her job she had to made so really rough decisions for the town but as time went for her in this little town the more at home she felt. When something happens in the town and at work can she continue to live in the town that her and her daughter calls home. I enjoyed this novella and fun listening to it on Thanksgiving. This is a hard Thanksgiving for me since I lost my Father this year and really this book brought peace and hope for me in this trying year. No its not a masterpiece but a nice book to read on days like this. Would recommend. H0pe all of you have a fantastic Thanksgiving for you and your love ones!!

A quick read that draws you in, and then you don’t want to let go.
I loved Emily, the author gives us such a sweet little girl, and she loves her Mom. Then we have Anna a teenager and how welcoming she is of an eight-year-old, and how she goes about helping her.
We are given a little bit of sweet romance, crime, new beginnings, and all things Christmas, and all wrapped up in a page-turning read.
Only problem I had was I wanted more!

It's tradition for this reader to read Melody Carlson's new Christmas release each year. In my opinion Christmas in Winter Hill is her best Christmas Novel ever! I felt it deserved more than five Stars. I sympathized with Krista in the situations she had been put in as she tried to do her job as city manager. She had to make some decisions that quite frankly were not appreciated by the citizens and leaders of the small community.
Krista was a single mother living in Arizona. Wanting to get ahead she excepted a job as city manager in a small town in Winter Hill in Washington State. She had to get used to the cold weather and living in a small community. Her apartment was very small and cold. Her pay check was also small but Krista thought city manager would look good on her resume.
Her eight year old daughter Emily was delighted with the move. She so looked forward to seeing snow for the first time. Winter Hill was host to an annual Christmas festival called Christmasville. Krista wasn't a lover of Christmas for reasons you will find out as you read the book. But she determined to participate in the festivities for Emily's sake.
It didn't take long for things to start going bad for poor Krista. As City Manager she had to make a few tough decisions in the first few weeks of her employment. The town soon turned against her. Things looked bleak for her future in Winter Hill. But things aren't all bad as Krista meets the handsome widower Conner Harris. A dash of romance enters the story but will it be worth staying in a town where people seem to dislike her so much.
This is a very nice clean story that would be suitable for a family read. A nice seasonal read for the holidays. I think it would make a great Hallmark movie. You will love this Christmas book! I highly recommend it for your reading pleasure.

This was a nice surprise. This is a novella with a big impact. I felt a connection with the main character Krista. I enjoyed the small-town feel and thought the story felt realistic. Krista dealt with things in a very classy way.
There was a bit of mystery that had me guessing till the end. I could see this being a longer book with more detail to certain aspects of it. I wish there were more moments for Conner and Krista - something that would allow them an opportunity to get to know each other a little better.

If you want a typical Christmas Hallmark in book form, here you have it. A big change for Krista and her daughter, a woman who hates Christmas and is thrown into it, a man she meets instantly, and small town drama that flares into a climax with accusations and questions. I could totally see this as a Hallmark movie.
Personally, I felt the story was a bit rushed and sometimes a little stiff. It’s possible that I could have looked over that, but it greatly lessened my enjoyment that Krista was a divorcee. I’m not judgmental against divorcees, it’s just that the Bible has very clear guidelines concerning them and remarriage (which are not popular in today’s world). Because of that, I wasn’t able to enjoy the story. I didn’t realize this was a book about a divorcee or I wouldn’t have requested it for review, to be fair to the author (there is nothing about it in the blurb.
It was Christian in that Krista clearly remembered a time when she turned to Christ and it was quoted that “all things work together for good,” but it was more of a few comments thrown in at random than an actual Christian lifestyle portrayed.
The whole story with the city council and “Grinch” was interesting. It was a predictable portion of the story, but I still liked it.

Christmas In Winter Hill is a delightful Christmas read and one I highly recommend you add to your holiday reading this year. I loved how it wasn't 100% fluff, but was still a light read.
The characters were nice. I liked how Krista grew throughout the story and had so many layers. I felt bad for her and the things she went through in her childhood which caused her to dislike Christmas. I LOVED her daughter - she was so cute! Her joy for everything Christmas and winter was wonderful! I didn't love the romance, mainly because it felt a bit rushed, but the ending was good.
All in all, Christmas In Winter Hill was really good and I recommend it!

First off -- love this cover! It's definitely beckoning me to settle in and spend some time in Winter Hill! Picture postcard perfect, especially since this is a town that does Christmas in a very big way. It's idyllic, really...unless you aren't a big fan of all the seasonal hohohoing. And Krista isn't. She's not a Scrooge though, just a wounded soul who has a stockpile of rotten Christmas pasts in her arsenal which tends to colour her present day holiday experiences. But she tries valiantly to get her jingle on for the sake of her eight-year-old daughter.
New job, new town. Fresh start. It's the perfect opportunity for this single mom to get a second chance at life...and love. If only the whole pesky Christmasville celebration would just go away! :-)
Carlson works her own special brand of holiday magic that's sure to please ardent Hallmark movie fans -- in fact, come to think of it, this would make a perfect Christmas special! It must be the spirit of Christmas that persuaded me to give this book 2 stars because I'm pretty sure i did not care for this book all that much.
My first gripe is in 2019 when this book was written how could someone applying to be a City Manager not do even 2 seconds of internet research to find out the the entire town is based on a Christmas theme!
There was absolutely no attempt a subtlety as far as character development. All the towns people walk around with smiles on their faces saying "aw shucks" and blushing. Except the villain, who wore a black cape, black top hat and a handlebar mustache well waxed that he twirled on a regular basis.
But it is a Christmas story and I did like the mother daughter relationship, so VERY generous stars.

Another quick read & lovely Christmas story from Melody Carlson. Who doesn't want to read a feel good Christmas story filled with romance and where problems always get resolved quickly? They are the perfect stories for the season & Melody Carlson is the author to provide them. I really enjoyed most of the characters and the setting of Winter Hill reminded me of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania (The Christmas City), where I was born. A great book to put me in the Christmas spirit!

I want to spend Christmas in Winter Hill,WA. The town sounds so dreamy and wonderful during Christmas. I liked how this story had a light romance,and it was focused more on Krista and her daughter,Emily. I liked Krista and how she learned to love Christmas. I loved Emily. She was such a sweatheart. Anna and her dad,Connor, we’re both so kind. I thought Pauline was awesome too. I absolutely adored the Christmas House. I want one of my own! Melody Carlson never disappoints with her Christmas books.I really enjoyed this one,and I highly recommend it.

I never miss one of Melody Carlson's Christmas tales. They are so good and hopeful. This time around a single mother and her eight year old daughter move from Phoenix to Washington state where the mom has a new job. It's nearing Christmas time and this town goes all out! Much to the mom's dismay. She has never had a good experience at Christmas time. Never. But what happens will bless you and restore her faith in Christmas again. Don't miss this wonderful little story.
