Kari's perfect life comes to a screeching halt when her husband's enemy stands and tells the entire congregation, "Our first lady was a fourteen-year-old prostitute …"

She barely survived a horrific experience when she was forced to take drastic measures to protect an innocent child. Years later, she’s finally put the past behind, owns a successful business, and is married to a wonderful man who loves her like no other. All the sordid secrets that she’s managed to keep hidden, even from her husband, resurfaces with a vengeance when Terrence Henderson, a man who is hellbent on destroying everything they’ve built, shares her past with everyone and causes a rift that is not easily mended.

Tony Baltimore’s plans for the saints to “take the church to the streets” and put their money and actions to good use, has always been met with staunch opposition by the board, deacons, and members, They believe that staying on the “safe side” of Chicago’s major issues suits them just fine. The gives Terrence a way in as he uses strong family ties to publicly disgrace Kari as a sure-fire way to take over a now wealthy church membership; a media firestorm ensues and a heated membership split soon follows. Tony makes strategic moves to protect his wife from everyone who’s coming against her—including members who are so “heavenly” minded that they’re no earthy good.

When the betrayal has done too much damage to repair, and the smoke clears, no one will ever be the same.

WARNING: This book deals with sexual assault, abuse, and human sex trafficking.

The book makes you think about your role in the church and the purpose that you are serving. First Lady, Kari Baltimore, past as a prostitute is brought before the church to shame her and revenge for the Pastor's plan for the church. The vision assists those outside the church, but some members believe that is too much work and will stop membership growth. Pastor Tony Baltimore stands with his wife through this ordeal to help her heal. Will it be enough for Kari to share her deepest secrets with him? The Henderson family is not perfect, and the skeleton rattles out of their closet during this ordeal about sex abuse and adultery. The family's hostile takeover rocks the Chicago community, and things get ugly fast and publicly.

I applaud the author for sharing; many women are ridiculed and unbelieved about their abuse. Also, the book shines a "light" on sex trafficking and how many women of color goes missing.

My Time in the Sun by Naleighna Kai is a different take on the popular “black church drama” fiction.

Kari Mason was sex trafficked as a teen. Kari Baltimore is First Lady of an established Chicago church. Both share a secret that could end her marriage, if the Associate Minister doesn’t do it with his attack.

Naleighna Kai has a great premise, unfortunately based in truth, and fully executes the premise here. The story is heartfelt and inspiring in a unique way. It’s well-written and well-balanced with strong, believable characters. The injected humor provides a reprieve from somber subject matter. You’ll laugh and cry. My Time in the Sun gets a 5 star rating and a high recommendation from me.

My Time in The Sun 💛🌄

This is my first read by the author and I loved every minute of it! First off shout out to Tony for being a real God-fearing man and Kari for finally being able to be vulnerable. And speak her truth to help others! Also, thanks for your vulnerability in the author's note. That takes guts and I'm glad God helped you to do so! This book teaches us that even though our faith my waver, God never forgets you and everything has a purpose. I loved the planets analogy, yes each one of us has our time in the Sun. We really just have to be listen to God and tune out all other noise! 💛💛💛💛

Refreshing first read by this author

I truly enjoyed this book! I truly ached for Kai and all that she endured. It was so beautiful how her husband Tony stood by her side. Tony and Kai are beautiful relationship goals. I love how the author allow them to love each other and did not add those crazy dynamics often found in contemporary romance. Besides Terrance had all of that plus more...LOL. If this book is indicative of the talents of this author, look for me to read more of her works. This book was incredible.

Excellent Reading!! ☺️

I absolutely loved this book. Both Kari and Tony deserved a second chance in life and to know and feel what true love is all about. Also, for Kari, to understand having a true understanding and relationship with God!

The horrors she, along with the other young girls, experienced were astounding and devastating! The sad thing is that it’s still happening in today’s time!

I would love to read a Book 2 to this!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!! Kudos, Naleighna! 💜

A story or unconditional love between a pastor, Tony, and his wife, Kari, both who have a past. When Terrance, the son of a former pastor, stages a takeover coup during a Sunday morning service, he attempts to use her Kari's past as the reason for his actions. After all, he contends that a pastor's wife should be beyond reproach. The shananigans are about to begin!
NOTE: Maybe I missed it, I don't remember reading how Terrance found out about Kari's past.

Oh my Gawd!

This book has given me so much strength! I want to be like Ms Aridell when I grow up! This is such a serious read. So many lessons. So many things to think about. She gave enough to make you understand without being overwhelming. For me, that's awesome. I appreciate the disclaimer at the beginning. I'm Naleighna wrote this book.
Powerful! Thank God for all the Tony's out there!

Needed more

The story was really Interesting but I gave 4 stars for the abrupt ending. I wanted to know how her mother Mrs Mason handled Mr Mason. I wanted to see Kari's relationship with her mother pan out. If there were girls saved from that horrible lifestyle. I wanted to see more of her relationship with her husband. I believe there should be way more than what was written.

I enjoyed the book. Aridell was a nice e touch to lighten the story too.

This book was really good! I love a good Christian romance/fiction read and this was perfect from beginning to end. I loved how Tony loved his wife. I loved that he had enough salvation for both him and Kari despite their past. Tony exuded exactly what a husband should be at all times. I loved Sister Aridell she was a Christian mess. That Henderson family was the worst. This was my first read from this author and I can't wait to read more of her works.

Not a crier

But , when I read this book, I wanted to cry. As I kept reading, it was not tears of sorrow, but tears of joy. I was made to look at my past and see that though some the things that I have gone though that God had and have my back. Loved the story and in spite the seriousness of the story, there was laughter. Thank you.

Loved it.

This is my first read by this author but probably not the last. The characters were very believable and the plot engaging. I believe I went through every emotion I've ever felt. Thank you for inserting some comedy. Otherwise, I don't think I could've made it tho the end. Ms. Kai covered some pretty powerful stuff. To God be all glory!

THE TRUTH

I loved the honesty of this book. Ms. Kai is an outstanding wordsmith. This book "took me to church". It showed realism, integrity and lack thereof. It's a must read. To show how c to regain your faith, a step at a time. I would definitely recommend this book, and I proudly give it 5-stars. Bravo, Ms. Kai, take a bow, Mic drop!!!!!

Very Good Read

I always enjoy reading books by this author. This storyline was an excellent one involving sex slavery of young girls and the secrets the family had that wanted to take back the reins of Pastoring their family church again.
I am glad this book was written because so many young children and teens are being traded, sold and killed like merchandise for sexual gratification for men who enjoy sex with underage children. This is a subject that is taboo to talk about but is now being talked about more to help prevent sex trafficking.
The characters were well developed and you can feel the emotions that each character was going through.
I like the new storyline of the author and her new direction in writing genre. I look forward to reading more books like this one and I highly recommend this book to read.
