The curtain is pulled back on the Lee Corporation's ultimate goal, while foreign forces prepare to use the state of the world for their own advantage. For those that survived The Long Night, their nightmares are only beginning....

The Long Night takes a frightening real-world situation and asks a simple question: "what if?" In a world that is increasingly connected, corporations have more information about us than ever before. A fictional extension on what has actually started happening in our society, the Lee Corporation's Bonesware health monitoring implants were supposed to keep us healthy and safe - until they didn't. Now, with over ninety percent of the civilized world dead over the course of a night, the few who remain must try to survive.

The Long Night is a collaborative work between Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus. A unique take on the apocalypse and on the post-apocalyptic genre, The Long Night will be a 6-part series of full-length novels released once per month.

I write post apocalyptic science fiction both on my own account and with Mike Kraus, as well as space opera and fantasy. And one or two other bits and bobs.

Based in the south of England, I've been writing since my teens, alternating between funny and serious. In the mid 1990s, I became a regular columnist for PC Pro magazine and have written a number of business and craft books over the years.

Fiction is my first love, however - I hope you enjoy my voyages into an uncertain future.

This was a very short part of a good series. It has a bit of a different twist on the cause of the disaster as well as worse to come. This particular volume felt more like movements to get chess pieces into position with not as much action. We do learn a bit more about how a lot of this started and it did set up well for the next in the series.

States of War (The Long Night Book 3) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

A collaboration between esteemed writers in the genre of Post-Apocalyptic Survival, Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus has produced this midway point in The Long Night series, which is published bi-monthly to bring the whole story gradually to its thrilling conclusion in 6 parts.
A modern classic is the manner of sci-fi giants such as Arthur C Clarke and Isaac Asimov, States of War tells how survivors of the eponymous Long Night, Solly, (trying to reach Bella and the children she's been able to save), Ross, Paulie and Scott must unite and pool their strengths and determination to help the mere 5% of the global population, (not decimated by a so-called 'health miracle' implant, created by the Lee Corporation) to build a new haven where they can restore humanity to its best potential in safety. Can they make it happen, or has the worst-ever 'what if...?' scenario one could ever imagine?
Get your copy of States of War, (and the two previous 'episodes') and prepare to be amazed and enthralled by the build-up to a truly epic survivalist adventure that will make you think about the way we live and the gadgets we come to rely on - for better or worse - and tell all your friends too!

Good

While I'm not a fan of this format I do enjoy the books. I've never been a comic book fan and the whole serialized, release a book every 2 to 4 weeks just isn't appealing to me. (My solution is to read a couple, wait for the next couple, and so on. That way it's more like a full book in a series.) So although I don't like the format, I do love a good story, told by a good storyteller, and these books most definitely fit that definition.

The struggle continues

Still enjoying this end of the world as we know it. Looking forward to seeing what happens next and will Solly catch up with bella and the children and will they save America from the Chinese?

This, third in the series, is a tension-filled, fast-paced page turner in an amazing apocalyptic nightmare. I enjoyed reading it and I highly recommend the entire series.

This episode follows Bella and her crew in the south, Solly and Ross on their quest to find Alison's creator in the northwest, and as it progresses the players move in various directions to either seek safety or to further their quest for answers to Alison's purpose. One again the authors have interspersed a good deal of action with human interaction is a world literally destroyed by the long night. Happily this series is available on Kindle Unlimited so moving from one episode to the next is easy.

State Of War

Still Going Strong

The 3rd book is still keeping my interest. Getting into trouble and getting out of trouble seems to be what Solly and Bella both are doing. Putting miles behind them in different directions. Where did Allison end up? Waiting to see! Ready for book 4. Very interesting story.

because it is very confusing. It jumps from in the storyline leaving huge gaps for the reader to try their own imagination to fill in. Solly, Ross, Paulie and Scott are flying in a small jet, next they are at air force base and then not far from farmhouse. Confusing!

More twists, more action, more answers and more unknowns. I am absolutely gripped by this story, and the third installment does not disappoint. The merging and diverging character storylines greatly heighten the excitement.

Once again, these two authors have written about things that could possibly happen. Huge corporations know a lot about us. There’s danger and chaos, how will this all end. Some have survived but will the future bring. Couldn’t put it down.
