TWO PLANETS AT WAR. ONE GIRL IN BETWEEN. HER CHOICE WILL SAVE A REVOLUTION. Avery Vey lives on Level 4 of New San Francisco, scraping by on whatever deals she can make in the rough markets of the ground level. But at least she is far removed from the war that rages on Echo, the sister planet just beyond the hypergate. She wants nothing to do with Earth's pointless crusade against the native race of that world. But soon after Avery undergoes a routine bioscan, the Earth Federation beats down her door and takes her into custody, along with her grandmother. As fellow prisoner Finn Lunitia helps her escape, they find that Avery has incredible powers--powers that no human should possess. As Finn drags her into the depths of this strange new world, Avery is labeled a savior for the people of Echo. To rescue her grandmother and decide her own fate, she must master her gifts, as well as the political games that govern both worlds. But with each step she takes, the planet of Echo--and Finn--begin to take hold of her heart. And she will do anything to save them.

This book was an enjoyable read! It was fast paced and story kept me invested in the cause of the Reanges. The changing prespective makes for an interesting narrative and gives the story a nice twist. The story left me excited for what’s to come in the next book! I can’t wait!

This book is fun, fast paced and a really great read! The world that is built as Avery and Finn find themselves and each other is an adventure for the reader as well as the characters. A little sci fi, a little romance, a little fantasy...you just keep wanting to know what happens next! Can't wait for book #2!

Take a futuristic Earth, (semi) friendly aliens, and a teenage girl struggling to understand her mysterious powers... And you would have Echo Through the Stars .

3.5 ⭐⭐⭐'s rounded up to 4.

spoilers ahead

The world of this book is science fiction, but not a heavy kind of science fiction. There is futuristic technology, but not so far from what we have now that it is a learning curve to get into the story. Even the aliens are very humanoid and not that different from humans except that a few members of their society have powers. This made the book very easy to get into right away.

That said, I would have love to see the world of Echo (the alien world) have more depth. It felt very one-dimensional, which could in part be because Avery spends most of her time with the two rebel sections of the aliens/natives. But the addition of little things would have been nice. For example, blazar (and other iterations of it: blazing) was the only swear word throughout the book. It would've been neat to see more of how the natives would curse or speak slightly differently and how Finn, who spent most of his life on Echo, has picked up those things.

I LOVED the action scenes in this book. My favorite being the last scene with Avery really coming into her own (if you know, you know!).

There were a few parts that seemed a little convenient for the sake of plot. Finn gets himself into a lot of scrapes, but seemingly gets an endless amount of free passes and leeway. If I was the head of the evil government of Earth I would have put him in a prison he can't escape out of! The ending was the hardest part for me to believe. It felt just a bit to "clean." With the space station "locking down" so no one bothered Avery/Finn, Petra conveniently deciding to come back so they had a way off the station, and the Fed just abandoning Echo to the natives after years of control.

The Petra/Finn/Avery dynamic was fun to read. The banter Finn and Petra provided were some of my favorite parts. If you're looking for some really snarky quotes, look no further than these two. Avery was a good main character with a lot of growth throughout the book. I really appreciated that she had the opportunity to do a lot of her growth outside of her love interest. Though some of her decisions were hard believe, like her deciding to abandon Gran. Avery's backstory is something I really hope gets explored more in Book 2.

As far as Book 2, I'm expecting that this one will have a lot more action. Especially because of the teasing of conflict at the end of Book 1!

Echo Through the Stars was a great light scifi read that took familiar YA tropes and twisted them so they manifested in a new way. I'm excited to see what Book 2 holds for Avery, Echo, Earth, and (let's be honest) Finn!

"Two planets at war. One girl in between. Her choice will save a revolution." Completely unexpected! I couldn't put it down and look forward to Book 2! A rollicking YA sci-fi adventure! Avery Vey's life in New San Francisco is shattered after a routine bioscan, and she and her grandmother are taken into custody. Avery is swept into a war between Earth and Echo, its sister planet and finds herself in the role of a reluctant heroine. Plot twists galore, great action scenes, and a touch of romance and witty dialogue kept me turning the pages. Will Avery's discovery about herself be enough to save the ones she loves?

Amazing story and romance!

Jessica Medina’s debut sci-fi novel about one girl caught in the middle of two worlds colliding is simply stunning! With a lovable cast of characters, witty dialogue, action-packed pages, and beautiful worldbuilding, Echo Through the Stars is a gripping story from start to finish that will leave you wanting more (when is book two coming out?!). And as a girl who loves her romance novels, this one absolutely delivers! Avery and Finn’s love story had me laughing one minute and melting the next. I can’t wait to read more of their story to see what happens next!

This was a delightful debut novel from a new author, and I look forward to reading more of the Echo series as the next stories are published. I appreciated how quickly the action got going, allowing the character building and world building to be revealed through the action and the story line. The characters are engaging, and the neighboring worlds of Earth and Echo make a thought provoking scenario for a sci-fi series! Keep them coming!
