WOW...so this book was...INTENSE. Lana sky is yet another new "to me" author I decided to take a chance on, and I seem to have hit the jackpot lately with amazing books by authors I have never read before. As soon as I saw the synopsis for this book, my dark loving heart beat a little faster and I knew I needed to get my grubby hands on a copy. I liked it a lot.

It was super dark in the sense that the hero was just god awful. And actually, that is the main reason I couldn't go all in with a 5-Star rating. His treatment of Snow crossed the line for me. I've read plenty of dark books where the hero treats the heroine worse physically, but the mental torture this hero used on an already disturbed heroine made me wonder how and IF this guy can ever really be redeemed. I think maybe if we had gotten some chapters from his POV I may have had an easier time connecting with him. In this book all we get is vicious cruelty from him, and zero kindness. Perhaps in the next book will delve more into his head?? The other issue I have was that I felt Snow was a doormat. This didn't affect my rating at all because short of cutting his dick off and feeding it to him, she would inevitable always come across weak considering how cruel the hero was. The things she put up with made me cringe.

description

Those two issues aside this was still a cracking good read. Well written. Well paced. The plot was engaging. Dark. Twisted. Intense. Heartbreaking. Rage inducing. Mysterious. The sex was hot (borderline dub-con). There was no OW or OM drama. It was angst on steroids (lol). There weren't a ton of secondary characters, but both Snowy's brothers were intriguing. Last, it all wraps up on a captivating cliffhanger that will leave you wishing you had book two in your hands ASAP.

King's Men Teaser 4
3.5 Stars

So This was a new author for me and let me tell you she sure can write: this was an excellently written story and I definitely can't fault King's Men on this author's exceptional story-telling ability.
This really was quite a dilemma for me in terms of my eventual rating here as on the one hand I was glued to this until the final closing words that certainly managed to grip me with there brilliant intensity.
But then this also equally repelled me with the psychological warfare used against Snow by Blake that at times actually felt more along the lines of mental torture so great was the cruelty and spite employed here.
This at timed went beyond the realms of what I am comfortable with totally smashing my boundaries and nearly reaching my hard limit.

F7Bs.gif

This is the first instalment in a dark romance duet and this follows the story of Snow and Blake its a wronged revenge trope and told completely from Snows POV.
I should also mention as well don't be expecting any sweeter romantic moments here as this just doesn't have them: I use the term romance very lightly indeed just putting that out there so you realise this and are aware.
So as I was saying I feel that only experiencing snow's input here didn't balance out Blakes venom and because of this, I failed to find anything redeemable in him meaning I struggled to connect emotionally with Blake's personal suffering that had turned him into this vengeful monster.
In fact, I would go as far as to say at times I really wanted to throat punch him so great was my abhorrence of his actions and intentions.

giphy.gif

I struggled with the annihilation and torment of an already damaged individual especially considering snow's age at the time of her supposed crime the unintentional actions of a child, not an adult that had then resulted in such far-reaching consequences.
Snow has had to then live with herself ever since not an easy task for her as she has lost the one closest to her heart.
I am now so emotionally invested in the outcome here even if at this moment in time I absolutely detest Blake with a passion and personally want him to grovel on bended knees to snow for forgiveness.
I also think from the snippet included at the end here of book two, we get some input from Blakes side of things and I am hoping this may showcase a crack in his impenetrable armour: anything really to see him act in any positive manner and maybe get a sense of his inner angst.
So this was very dark but as I said this darkness wasn't physical but more psychological in nature and I have read so much darker than this before this just seemed to hit all my buttons in terms of triggers.
So despite my above observations, I did enjoy this and it most certainly left a distinct impression in regards to its impact.
It's an extremely intense journey that will hook its claws in for the duration and despite not being easy reading in places was surprisingly addictive: almost like car crash TV.
This is one that some might struggle with just because of the emotional abuse heavily featured here: I know I did.
But this was most certainly memorable so well done to the author on that one: this tale stands out from the crowd.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of King's Men (The Savage Fall Duet #1).
All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

I am never lost for word but this book...woh!

I am absolutely gobsmacked you guys.
This book is DARK. I mean, I've read my fair share of dark romance but this book is insane!

I think I should warn you that thing book is most definitely not for a lot of people. It has a lot of triggers and when it comes to possessive anti-hero, a story that pushed the boundaries of comfort, King's men has that label written all over it.

Having said that, I feel like I am having an out of body influence. This book is crazy!
I am going to take a moment and give a round of applause for the author because guys, it takes a dang good author to write such a dark romance yet somehow keep the readers hooked.
I don't think I blinked that much while reading this book because saying King's Men is dark and intense is an understatement! I devoured this book.

The surprising thing is, along with all that drama and intense darkness, there were a few heartbreaking moments that made me question whether I had the right to even empathise the situation.
I'm telling you, I can't grasp this book. It's so dark yet so good. One Hell of a book!

And that cliffhanger! I need King's Horses ASAP!

"All the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't fix Humpty Dumpty."
"Only he could do that, someone brave enough to climb a wall despite the danger."

It’s 5.30 am and I’m wide awake.

After a tumultuous adventure into the dark and twisted, sleep evades me as my mind swirled with the thoughts of Blake and Snowy. King's Men was hauntingly raw and painfully beautiful. I escaped the world scathed and bruised only to be desperately wanting for more.

I'll only ever want you when you're a broken, little shell."

Oh ...how I devoured this book. Lana Sky truly is a torture artist, skilled at crafting the most sinful masterpiece that lured you into its depths, ensnaring you into its seductive world of monsters and man. Lana Sky is a brilliant storyteller with no qualms about boundaries. There isn't a limit to her writing as she daringly explores the darkest vault in the world of dark romanticism, challenging it, wielding it, surprising her readers with the lengths she is willing to go to tell her story.

A modern-day retelling with a darker take on the fable "Humpty Dumpty", King's Men tells the story of a young, insecure girl and how she turned her back on the only boy she has ever loved. The only boy who mattered. Bearing the guilt of her doing, her punishment comes in the form of Blake Lorenz who is set out to ruin the only thing she has left.

Herself.

"You look beautiful only like this. Without that f*cking fake bullsh*t. You can only ever look beautiful like this."

I loved every second of it. The angst, the desperation, and the plotline were addicting, so much so that I feed off the emotions of it all. Does that make me a masochist?

This book explores themes that may set triggers to some, but this only proves to what extent the author is capable of reaching for the sake of storytelling. Poignant and evocative, King's Men raised the bar so high, I am eager to see how the duet will conclude.

I am broken. This book was evocative. My heart is hearting so bad. My eyes won’t stop leaking. I am a mess. I AM BROKEN.

Snowy Hollings betrayed the only person in her corner. They only guy that was there for her. The boy who captured her teenage heart. Ten years pass and she still harbors the guilt and is a completely new person. She shows less of her true self. She learns to hide behind her fake smiles but her life starts crumbling. She has become a pauper overnight. The Hollings name is all she has left. She will do whatever she has to to bring her family name back to the top once more and the only way she can accomplish that is by submitting to newcomer Blake Lorenz. Blake is vengeful, ruthless and cold as you can get. He will stop at nothing at breaking Snowy. He wants to see suffer. He hates her. The more time Snowy is in Blakes presence, the more she loses herself. She is hanging on by a tread.

Blake was so f*cking cruel to Snowy. I HATED him. He broke her so bad. I honestly don’t know what he can possibly do to redeem himself. His mind is a dark dark place and I hope he can show me something more in book 2. I need love from him. He needs to show love. I can’t believe how much I loved this book. It is so dark that it isn’t beautiful. It’s catastrophic. I feel like I’m depraved loving this book so much. I still haven’t fully processed what I have just finished reading. I don’t know what I’m feeling..... oh wait I do know. My body, my heart and my soul is in shreds.

This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. You will hate the hero but somehow still end up loving the book. It lures you in and captures you in it’s dark dark web.

On a surface level, the plot reminds me of The Ellie Gray Chronicles by Lana Sky: A heroine insulted by the hero who says that she is unattractive to him despite the hero keeping her with him for reasons that are undisclosed to her. But everything else is different i.e. no vampires, is about rich people. Gripping to read, but claustrophobic and abusive.

The heroine accused her childhood love of a sex crime when she was young. Her childhood love supposedly died in prison. In present-day, she is about to wed herself to a rich man and solidify the family's dwindling coffers. Overnight, things erupt. Her fiance is sent to prison and the family has no money. The heroine is persuaded by her two brothers to plead her case to the businessperson who has taken over the family company. She recognizes him as her childhood love, but he doesn't answer to this name or identity.

The heroine offers herself to him but he refuses. When the heroine decides to offer herself to a male protector at her father's fancy club for buying women, which the hero now owns, he stops her before she even meets the men and strikes a deal for her to live with him for a year on his bidding. At her family home, which of course, he also owns now too.

She is ordered to make him breakfast, and she is not allowed to wear anything if she does not fit into the clothes on the rack. It's a little coy about whether the hero is or isn't the heroine's childhood past. Either way, the significance of what happens to her and her childhood friend/crush is important in their relationship.

Because she has a secret about what really happened. For some reason, she decides that the hero doesn't need to know the truth. There is even a point where she has letters that detail the past and she burns them before he can read them. The heroine is obviously guilt-ridden, and wants to atone.

I debated shelving this in my traumatic shelf, as the hero mindf*cked the heroine back into her bulimia and body dysmorphia, and I just don't like reading stories where the heroine loses her sanity and doesn't come back at it, stronger with a vengeance.

I felt for the heroine when she started to compulsively exercise, to not eat... Like the line was intended to, I found it disturbing when the hero says he wants her broken, a line that is repeated throughout the story. Also, when she meets someone in her home at the end - that KILLED me, but also so, so powerful.

I'm more than halfway through the second book in The Savage Fall, and if you are wondering how the hero redeems himself, you get his POV there and things are... lighter. Still twisted, but at least he's no longer insulting her but admitting he is obsessed with her!

I loved King's Men, definitely worth the praise, but I'll need to read a tongue-in-cheek romance soon for a palette cleanse!

Wuthering Heights popped into my brain when i first started the story, and then it was Holy Moly! this is like 'Harlequin Presents (HP) gone dark'...and I was loving it. The whole poor little rich girl, to save her family's fortune makes a deal with the big cold arrogant billionaire who has taken over her family's company and mansion for revenge on her and her family (for destroying him and his family in the past)..you know the trope for HP readers out there. And it was dark! Yay! Then it just got abusive and made me cringe and the heroine who i had high hopes for just never rose up and she just did the most annoying things all these were just so that the story would be prolonged and she could be abused some more. Sooo unnecessary and seemed laziness on the author's part to get to a particular word count.
Lana Sky can definitely write - but this book was lacking a likeable heroine.

Having read the blurb,i knew this wasn’t going to be an easy read, and i was right....
This first part of a duet deals with a number of issues,an eating disorder being one...

Snowy betrayed her childhood friend,or did she? Sending him to prison for something he didn’t do?

Blake will make sure she pays for it! He’ll take her, brake her,and leave her a shell with nothing left...
What he does,is só cruel,it’s evil,but....the glimpses you see along the line of the man underneath the mask? There’s more than pain there....there’s torment, there’s loss, there’s someone there that IS LOST....

Will Snowy and Blake find a way to deal with the truth of the how and why? And do they have a chance at making things right? For eachother and themselves?

The King’s Horses.....that’s where i hope to find my answers!

*My first Lana Sky book read

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of this book is -complicated. The love story that is told in this duet is complicated but so deeply ingrained in these characters that you can not put this book down. This first book is told strictly in Snowy's words which doesn't take away from the story.

Snowy is the crown jewel of her family and is made to do things for her family so that they can keep their wealth and companies in high standings. But when she out that everything she has done was for nothing, and that everyone around her lies for their own good Snowy figures she has to take matters into her own hands. Little does Snowy know her past is about to bit her in the ass.

This twisted and dark romance brings lies, deceit, past loves, and some dark bedroom play. Be warned when reading this, you might fall in love with the bad guys.

King's Men by Lana Sky is book one in The Savage Fall Duet Series. This starts the story of Snowy Hollings and Blake Lorenz. Snowy hasn't had a easy life growing up and only had one true friend that cared for her and she for him. But she betrayed him which deeply hurt her too. Now in the present day she finds that everything is taken from her..even herself. Blake is out for blood in his revenge...with Snowy as his pray. This is a very dark romance that may not be for some readers that have trigger issues or do like a very dark almost not redeemable hero. I can't wait for the next installment in their story.

I was hooked from beginning to end! Blake and Snow have steamy chemistry; however, their story is a dark one filled with painful memories and lies. Snow would do anything for her father and her family and her father made her betray her best friend. Now he is back for revenge. Will he get it? Intense, emotional and drama filled. These characters have so much depth and their story will draw you in. I loved it!

My head is reeling from all the shock. My mind is lost in this dark and twisted world created by Lana Sky. I feel I am in some alternate reality where all the demons of human mind come out to play. I am awed by the disturbing, deviant and mindblowing story called King's Men by Lana Sky.

The story is full of shocking surprises and twists all the way. And I am not sure how to tell you about the story without giving away too much. Snowy Hollings, a broken princess who is forced to do unspeakable things to save her family. A family that is powerful, aristrocrat and part of society's upper crust. But the empire is built on deception, cruelty, greed and power games. The empire is crashing down all of a sudden in hands of a stranger, Blake Lorenz. Snowy is desperate to save her family and ready to make a deal with the devil. But the devil looks like a ghost from her past. Brandt Lloyd. The boy she loved and the boy she "killed" all because of her ruthless merciless father. But this enigmatic cold and bitter man is nothing like her sweet Brandt. What will happen between them? Is Brandt back for revenge? Who is Blake Lorenz? Is any price too high when Snowy is trying to save herself and her family?

The plot is simply stunning. The secrets are coming out one after another. Blake and Snow's interactions are a thin line between corrosive hate and overwhelming attraction. The sex scenes are intense and dirty. This story is raw, gritty and as angsty as anyone can take. It covers highly sensitive issues like abuse and sexual assault. The darkness and violence are given a beautiful shape here. The story talks about the deepest animalistic parts of humanity. Passion. Survival. Greed. Love. Lust. Revenge. And the combination is amazing. I could not stop reading at all. I want to hate Blake for torturing Snow but I really can't as I can feel his pain too. I want to love Snow but sometimes I can't forgive her for making weak decisions. Nothing is real or moral here. And we readers are caught in the whirlwind.

Lana Sky has created a desperate and destructive yet delicious story of love and hate. The story kept me on the edge whole time. I am hypnotized and completely obsessed with King's Men. One of the best dark contemporary romance I have ever read .

WOW what a dark twisted story that has so much hate with lies mixed with truths but what to believe that will have you in pieces as the emotion guts you in every single way. Snowy and Blake are a force and together destruction as they punish each other looking for the answer they seek and it is so intense you never know whats coming next, thuis keeps you right there on the edge of your own sanity. The story line flowed perfectly and the characters are exceptionally written I loved it.

This book... just WOW.

It was darkly delicious and as a reader, I had no choice but to buckle up and ride the roller coaster of this book.

I. Could. Not. Put. It. Down! Now, I am freaking hoping that March just disappears and we are already in April to get the second half of this heart-breaking story.

Snowy is the product of her environment that she was raised in. With a father that was absolutely ruthless and did ANYTHING to get ahead, including using his children, this family learned from a young age that they either jump on the bandwagon or else. She had one real friend growing up, Brandy Lloyd and she basically killed him, which killed her as well.

Everything is looking up for Snowy, she is about to wed a wealthy man who seems like he might be fairly decent. Then BOOM goes the dynamite and her world is shattered and left in the hands of Blake Lorenz.

Blake is a SHREWD businessman who freakishly looks like her old friend, but that is impossible because he died, right?

He wants to break Snowy, completely. The way he goes about it has me gasping at certain points and jaw-dropped most of the time. Why in the world does it seem as if this guy has a personal grudge against her?

I am in AWE of this book, it is not easy to read and there are definitely trigger elements in this, but if you like dark books-- I HIGHLY recommend King's Men. I am not joking when I say I want the second book in my hands RIGHT NOW!

5 outta 5 and desperately wanting the 2nd half of the duet ASAP!

PS: I received this book as an ARC in return for my honest review.

WTF DID I JUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG want to talk about dark and disturbing damn this book is that all wrapped into one. I mean this book has triggers about abuse and eating disorders so beware before you start reading that this book is not for the faint at heart and if you are triggered easy please don't read this book. Like I said it really is dark and disturbing but it is told so phenomenally that I could not take my eyes off the kindle until I was done reading and yes I stayed up late into the morning to finish this.

Snowy has betrayed the one she loved and for what you ask well I can't say or it will ruin the book for you but lets just say she is one ruthless little girl that is no joke. She is spoiled and used to getting what she wants so beware of her. Then in one night she goes from the A list to the no list and has lost it all. She is devastated by the lose because she is used to having everything but now she has nothing.

Then comes Blake who is new to the kingdom and he hates Snowy and is determined to destroy her. He is going to make her feel worse than she already is. And what Blake does to her is very dark and disturbing. This is a must read story and I can't wait for the conclusion in this duet because I need to see what happens between Blake and Snowy.

Dark and twisted and so compelling I could not put it down!

Snowy was in love with Brandt for a long time and then, because of her he was dead, taking with her everything that was good. Now her family fortune lies in the hands of Blake who very much resembles her perfect boy only this man hates her family and in particular her. Entering into a deal with the devil to reclaim at least part of her fortune, Snow finds herself reminded more and more of Brandt. Could it be? And if Blake is Brandt will he ever be able to understand why she sent him to jail for a crime he never would have committed? Dark and twisted and so compelling I could not put it down! I simply cannot wait for book 2!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

Before I begin, I want to make sure this point gets across: this book is intended for readers age 18 and over. It contains subject matter that can be intense and triggering for some, and should not be read if you are triggered by graphic sex scenes, extreme psychological abuse, eating disorders and child sexual abuse. Please take into account all of this before considering purchasing this book.

* * *

King’s Men is not for the faint of heart. It is intensely dark, raw and gritty. It is twisted in ways I couldn’t comprehend; it seeps into your soul and leaves a mark upon your bones. It is a story unlike no other I have read.

I have read my fair share of dark romance. I live by a philosophy of “the darker, the better” and yet I haven’t come across something quite like this. I like pushing my boundaries and testing the limit of what I can tolerate in a story such as King’s Men. You only have to read the blurb to know that it’s a difficult read and yet, I was enthralled. As soon as it was downloaded onto my Kindle, I devoured it. I tore through it with greedy eyes, desperate to see Snowy Hollings, our meek, far-from-innocent heroine, deal with her voluntary imprisonment by the domineering, hate-filled Blake Lorenz.

Just as the blurb explains, this story stems from a lie.

Ten years ago, a young Snowy told a lie so dreadful it killed the love of her life. Now, on a night of celebration, her lie comes back to haunt her, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. Overnight, her world collapses around her, leaving with nothing but her name.

After all, you reap what you sow.

With desperation the only thing she can feel, Snowy does the unthinkable and strikes a deal with the devil.

Blake is her saviour, her salvation, her destruction, her downfall.

And he’s been telling the biggest lie of all.

Blake commands every page, making you loathe his every word, every action, his very presence. Just like Snowy does in that empty mansion, I felt him in every shadow. Sky’s description of him was so vivid, it was like his essence seeped off the pages into the real world, taking hold of the air around me.

It was like I was Snowy. I felt every ounce of pain he inflicted on her, both psychological and physical. He repulsed me to the point where I almost put down the book to never pick it up again. But just like Snowy, I soldiered on.

This book is a true testament to Lana Sky’s writing prowess. She has an uncanny ability to churn out dark, painfully raw stories I have ever had the pleasure of reading. She breaks open her characters and bares their souls for the world to see. She spins tales so heartbreaking and deplorable, yet so riveting that you can’t help but come back for more.

Blake and Snowy’s story is compelling from start to finish. I became fully invested quite quickly and I am very glad to have read this story. I highly recommend King’s Men to those who love a book full of grit with a harrowing story and an incredibly complex villain, if you can call him that.

5 stars.

Totally amazed, second book I've read from this author and the second time I'm blown away.

It had some things going on, but easy enough to follow. This story bring to mind that old saying "money cant by you happiness* they ain't never lied

I dont usually like cliff hangers but I can see why and I'm sure the next book will be worth it. The characters dang were awesome they're personalities flowed right along wth the details.
Its harsh. Intense. Dark and amazing. What would you do for love? What would you do for family?

When her world crashed Snow has to step up and fix things? But can she? And at what cost.?enjoy

3.5 stars The H wants revenge on the h for falsely accusing him of SA when they were young and sending him to jail. There’s a Is he the H or not conundrum because it’s been 10 years and she’s not sure. Of course the reader figures it out fast. He torments and degrades her. The angst was good but it did get monotonous as happens when books are dragged out intDuets unnecessarily. It’s like playing vinyl when the record gets stuck on the same line over and over again. The writing is a bit frenzied and psychotic to me too. Maybe it’s just me because I’m currently rereading Run Posy Run by Cate C Wells and her writing is so on point. Anyways I did muddle through part 2 so…

I found this book kind of disappointing. The plot was overloaded with one dramatic event after the other, and the characters felt lacking. We’re told briefly that the Hero and Heroine had a relationship in the past, but we barely get to see any glimpses of it. I wasn’t sold on the angst that Snow and Blake had, so I couldn’t justify a lot of their actions.
