We all know what a wonderful experience it is to carry an entrepreneurial idea to fruition; it’s what gets us up every morning. But if we’re not careful, it can also be a curse. Our single-minded focus on that new idea or that next opportunity can cause us to forget about the other important aspects of our lives. Some entrepreneurs are happy to live life only for the business, but many of us will one day look around and realize what we’ve been missing out on during our pursuit of success. InThe Third The IntentionalEntrepreneur, the second book in Randy H. Nelson’s bestselling Decision Series for Entrepreneurs®, Randy explores the concept of “entrepreneurial addiction” and how entrepreneurs can become more intentional about their everyday and future decisions.
Being an intentional entrepreneur requires you to think ahead, asking yourself some tough questions about what you might, in the future, regret about today. The Third Decision will help you conduct a clear-eyed examination not just of what you’re doing now and why, but also how you might feel when you look back on it someday in the future. Are you content with how you’re living, or aren’t you? Will you work to control your addiction and make room for a fuller and more satisfying life or is this the life you would choose first, last, and always? By the end of the book, you will have developed a list of non-negotiables to govern your things you simply won’t compromise on, regardless of what your growing entrepreneurial business venture demands of you. Non-negotiables—one of the critical success factors in building a regret-free life beyond business!

This book isn’t just for entrepreneurs. It is chock full of information for anyone who wants to be successful in life not just business. The book starts out talking about happiness which is essential for being successful in both business and your personal life. Then discuses business aspects of life, marriage and family, personal/down time, about the importance of friendship and a support group and what/who your support group or circle should be. Then addresses the importance of both physical and mental health, living with purpose, being involved in the community and giving back. While it does focus on the business/entrepreneurial side of things it has so many value points for life in general! Most people don’t realize that a support system is so important and how much easier it is to navigate life’s little curveballs when you have established your circle. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in creating a better life for themselves and their family.
Author Randy Nelson writes a helpful book designed to encourage entrepreneurs who find that their dream of starting a business might be causing more problems than they realized. Nelson describes how easy it can be to become obsessed with your development of a product or business which not only takes a toll on one’s health physically, but mentally as well. Instead, Nelson gives a blueprint entrepreneurs can follow to ensure they can find balance between work and their daily life. Each chapter is dedicated to one theme, such as how money can be useful and mental health. This helps to make reading all of the information provided a bit easier. It also has an encouraging foreword telling the story of a man who worked to balance both his entrepreneur and home life successfully. This book runs at 395 pages so might take a little long to read. However, it’s a great investment thanks to the information inside.
This is a very well written, professional and practical book suggesting ways to balance the business and personal life. Randy H. Nelson, the author of the book was diagnosed as being addicted to entrepreneurship by his wife Kristi. The author confirms the reader to be addicted to leadership and encourages to link skills and expertise with the area of interest. Stress has been put in different aspects of life like being self-aware, decisional, intentional and knowledgeable. After this book, one will realize their place in the curve of happiness and in fact being successful and satisfied does not mean to be happy always. The story is so enticing that once started reader will wish to finish the book as happened to me.
