For most of his life, Ocken would have claimed he was fearless. He'd rushed head first into a suicide mission, gone up against tyrant kings, and faced off against otherworldly creatures and lived to tell about it.
But the world around him has exploded, quite literally, and all he can think about is Riley. Their ship is aflame and she's nowhere to be seen.
Can Ocken find her and save her in time?
Even more death-defying events await him in the next installment of Sellswords. Will he be able to conquer his fears long enough to survive himself?
T.L. Branson is the author of the Soul Stones series. Branson started writing when he was eighteen and has contributed articles to several blogs and websites over the years. Soul Render is his debut novel in a planned trilogy. He finds his inspiration from the kings (and queen) of story, J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, George Lucas, and J.K. Rowling. Born in Pennsylvania, he currently lives in California with his wife and two children.
We pick up just seconds after the last story ended. I found myself reading as fast as I could to see how the previous situation would work out. While the action slowed just a smidge, the duo found themselves in a situation that could very easily take a turn for the worst yet again. So of course that didn't calm my anxiety.
I really enjoyed that a character from the past was brought up. Again, this was written in a way that gave plenty of information for readers new to this series, or to remind readers that may have forgotten. This short discussion between two characters has me very hopeful that we're going to see that person they were speaking about again (fingers crossed!).
I also really loved seeing Ocken play-fight in front of Callum to prove that he hasn't lost his touch!
I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment!
My favorite passage: The assassin was on him an instant later, the dagger thirsting for his blood now as its tip sailed downward.
And you thought the last book ended on a cliffhanger!
With novella series, instalments can be a bit hit and miss depending on your preferences. High Treason has hit it out of the park for me. This is an Ocken-focused instalment, giving more character development in spades (men and their egos, seriously! Think laterally!) and another familiar face crops up from the main series - I always have time for my favourite characters, so this plot development was right up my street!
Great action and fantastic tension, I’m sure I won’t be the only one mentally yelling at Ocken and chomping at the bit for the next novella!
TL Branson what a cliff hanger !!!! As I've said before this story just keeps getting better and better , what's going to happen next is all I'm thinking so much I want to say but no spoilers from me , needless to say I can't wait for the next book . So my advice to anyone thinking about getting this series .... Get it now this is a must read series so stop reading this and go get it it is fantastic 😃😃😃
High Treason is about the aftermath of what had occurred in Unlikely Allies. In this installment the story is mainly focused on Ocken as he worries about Riley and attempts to find out who is behind an assassination attempt. The plot will keep you glued to your kindles as it unfolds leaving off with another awsome cliffhanger!
This story picks up where the last one left off. We're moments after the ending and Ocken is in a rush to find where Riley has ended up. There is plenty of excitement, albeit that it isn't all fighting in this one which is a nice break from the previous installments. Is Ocken being double crossed? Can you really trust those who are or used to be your friends? Not everyone is who they seem to be and those closest cannot always be trusted. The ending here is a huge cliffhanger but leaves plenty of excitement to be had in the next story!
This book was fantastic. I didn’t think it could get better but it did. Ocken and Riley are wonderful strong characters who help make the story what it is. Loved it.
This story catches on right were book 5 left off as we were left on a cliffhanger but this week’s story is even more gripping and the cliffhanger we are left on is even worse than last week’s! Riley is not really participating in this story as she is quite out of it however many things are happening all around her, obviously driving Ocken crazy with worry for her life whilst she is oblivious to the danger she is in! I think poor Ocken is going to get old before his time watching out for Riley! As always the action is fast paced and the fighting scenes bring out the best in our hero!
A bit of palace intrigue is involved in this installment of Sellswords. Riley hasn’t woken up since the previous novella “Unlikely Allies”. She was put into a room to recover but when Ocken went to check up on her he’d caught an assassin ready to put a knife in her heart. Ocken gets into some exciting fighting sequences then finds Riley has disappeared. Where oh where has Riley gone? And what has happened to the guard who was watching her? Such a puzzle Mr Branson has created. We can only hope to find out in the next installment of Sellswords.
