Dima Zales is a full-time science fiction and fantasy author residing in Palm Coast, Florida. Prior to becoming a writer, he worked in the software development industry in New York as both a programmer and an executive. From high-frequency trading software for big banks to mobile apps for popular magazines, Dima has done it all. In 2013, he left the software industry in order to concentrate on his writing career.

Dima holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from NYU and a dual undergraduate degree in Computer Science / Psychology from Brooklyn College. He also has a number of hobbies and interests, the most unusual of which might be professional-level mentalism. He simulates mind-reading on stage and close-up, and has done shows for corporations, wealthy individuals, and friends.

He is also into healthy eating and fitness, so he should live long enough to finish all the book projects he starts. In fact, he very much hopes to catch the technological advancements that might let him live forever (biologically or otherwise). Aside from that, he also enjoys learning about current and future technologies that might enhance our lives, including artificial intelligence, biofeedback, brain-to-computer interfaces, and brain-enhancing implants.

In addition to his own works, Dima has collaborated on a number of romance novels with his wife, Anna Zaires. The Krinar Chronicles, an erotic science fiction series, has been a bestseller in its categories and has been recognized by the likes of Marie Claire and Woman’s Day. If you like erotic romance with a unique plot, please feel free to check it out, especially since the first book in the series (Close Liaisons) is available for free everywhere. Keep in mind, though, Dima Zales's books are going to be much more PG 13 . . . at least that’s the plan for now.

Anna Zaires is the love of his life and a huge inspiration in every aspect of his writing. She definitely adds her magic touch to anything Dima creates, and the books would not be the same without her. Did I love this?

Thank you Loki!

This one takes place right after the first book ends. We learn more about Darren and his powers and about the other side of the coin as well, the Pushers. There's also a mini history lesson on both sides as to how the feud began... but I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle of both tales.

We also get some answers about Darren's family (I suspected who/what they were a little bit before the truth came out) and to this mysterious 'pusher'. It's not as it all seems and raises more questions while solving previous ones.

Surprising facts about one person in the story, doesn't make me like them more *shrugs*

An interesting fact learned about one part of the 'Quiet/Mind Dimension' although I think Mira/Eugene should told Darren about it beforehand (It did make for some suspenseful moments, credit for that).

This is a semi-fast paced novel, culminating in a showdown and the unmasking of one person I didn't suspect. With hindsight, the pieces fall into place but still...

I have a feeling the other half of THAT equation will not be quiet for long and things will be very interesting when the crap hits the fan.

A fine installment and ends on a nice note (have a feeling there won't be as much of that in the next one)... already ordered book three :)

“You’re a man after my own heart,” Hillary says with a smile. “That’s actually a pet peeve of mine, and I think you verbalized it perfectly. The entire human race has this tendency—the inclination to cling to their own group. This obsession with sub-dividing ourselves is responsible for practically every evil in the world. Everyone fails to see that the hatred between our people is just another example in a series of these meaningless feuds. They all start with people who are extremely alike, and then a tiny difference creeps in, and people separate along that difference, after which insanity ensues. Sooner or later, you get that ‘we hate you because you hate us’ deadlock, or worse.”

“Near death experiences seem to do that for me--- they bring out my sentimental side.”

Q:
“We never should’ve taken that fucking tunnel,” she says, swerving suddenly. I think she just scared a cab driver—and those guys have seen everything. I’ve always thought they were the ones driving like maniacs, but they’ve got nothing on Mira. Hell, even Caleb isn’t as bad. But she’s still eighteen, and thinks she’s indestructible. I, by the way, never had that delusion.

I received this book from the publisher for an honest review

The story just got more depth and amaziness if that can happen, this series are getting to me and that's a good thing, I love them.

I can only say I think is purely genius how the plot is advancing and how it was constructed.

Poor Darren life seem to complicate more at the same time seems to be gaining so much happiness at the same time, I wouldn't want to be in his shoes that's for sure, or maybe, but I think he can make a difference.

Mira and Eugene are so cools, love those little punks and the new characters are so interesting too, at the beginning I thought the breach of hate to be unreachable but human nature have demonstrate the opposite and I like that a lot.

I hope to read some more of this series soon.

This book answers a lot of the questions I had after reading the first one, but it also raises some new questions and I'm intrigued as to how those will be answered now.
We get to learn more about Darren and where he came from. We learn how he got his abilities and we get to explore how useful they can be in the right circumstances.
I like the way this book introduced us to the other side of the story, the Pushers/Guides. Learning about their abilities, how they used them and what they think about Readers turned everything we knew so far upside down and it adds a layer of complexity to the story.
The story never stops, but there's also time along the way for some really good observations, especially one about how ridiculous this division and hatred between Readers and Guides is, or, as the book puts it, people who are extremely alike except for one tiny difference.

Although the first book was more interesting I really enjoyed reading more about Darren's story. The better and far more interesting Romeo and Juliet story mixed with some hilarious moments of modern activism and the exploration of transcendence.

But overall more than it containing some great ideas and philosophical concepts it's just a lot of fun to read. However, from time to time the story develops a bit too flat and straight forward.

Part two was pretty good too. I have to say that I anticipated all of the big surprises, which might simply be a function of having read too many books rather than any plotting deficit in the authors’ part. Perhaps part three will have an unanticipated plot twist. I hope so, but that’ll be tomorrow.

Intense!!

What exactly is Darren? Who were his parents and why were they killed? Is it somehow linked with Mira and Eugene’s parents?

This book delves more into the worlds of the readers and the guides. Darren gets an in-depth look into both sides from the inside. He also learns he has a relative.

Who is the puppet master that keeps pushing to kill Darren, Mira and Eugene? It all goes down at the bridge.

This was an intense page turner from start to finish. Darren is even more powerful than either group initially thought. Who can he trust, whose side should he choose?

I can’t wait for the 3rd installment to reveal more answers and twists!

The other side of coin explained.

Prejudices apply to both sides of the mind dimension families. Explained perfectly way back they were together but insecurity or jealousy caused a breach, a feud longer and worse than the Hatfield and McCoy. Answers a lot of questions but raises more. Can't wait for next book.

No, Mira.

Bonne lecture !

La Série"les dimensions de l'esprit ":

1) tome 0/prequel : "la figeuse du temps"
2) tome 1 : "les lecteurs de pensée "
3) tome 2 : "les pousseurs de pensée "
4) tome 3 : "les initiés "
5) tome 4 : " les anciens".

The sequel had basically the same pros and cons that the first book had.

Pros:

An interesting story, based on an interesting concept. I like that the author chose to bring both perspectives into the story, pointing out that both Pushers/Guides and Readers/Leachers could use their powers for good or nefarious purposes. We're not stuck with a one-sided 'This group is ALL EVIL' trope.

Darren's increasing understanding of his abilities is fun to experience. Seeing how the powers work, sometimes in unexpected ways makes for a good read.

Cons:

I still don't really like Darren. For all his talk about the ethics of using his abilities, he rarely shows an actual concern for it in practical use. While that can probably be excused in the numerous life and death situations he's dropped into, his entire personality still seems to revolve around, 'Yeah, this isn't really right, but I can rationalize it in my head, so I'ma gonna do it anyway.'

None of the other characters really have me invested in their well being. They're a little too much of a group of stereotypes for Darren to respond to, rather than individuals with their own personalities, at least to me.

The Verdict:

Well, I read the book in one day, so that says something. Granted, I spend half my time internally telling Darren he needs new friends and to stop obsessing over Mira, but I still find myself interested enough to continue with the series.

Am I a reader ? Or Pusher? Or am I both? How?
These are some of the big answers you'll find in this story, however, they are no big surprise what they are, you would have easily guessed them at the end of the first book. Bigger surprise what most might not have guessed is that So I'll let you decide who is worse between the two communities.
Personal relations are build in this story, nice. Darren finds a family. Good.
By the time I'm writing this, I've finished third book and I already cant remember story of this book.
Narration is okay. He does a bit of variations and accents. What he doesn't do is, read with proper emotions. He tries, but without much success. He sounds bored when he's reading. We have great narrators these days. Audible is full of them. Ray Porter is the best! So if Ray is one end of the spectrum, a 10, then this narrator is 3,or 4 maybe.
All in all its a forgettable, but necessary to read book if you want to nJoy the next sequel. It's small though, it that's a plus.

I have to say, I really like Zales's writing style. It's fast-paced and entertaining, mechanically perfect, and engrossing. I don't remember the last time I've devoured a series like this.

The concept is fascinating and psychologically complex. I appreciate how the narrator's mind goes down little philosophical rabbit trails as well. Plus, with the time-stoppage opportunities provided by the plot, most scenes feel like a strategy game where you can pause and plan out your moves in advance, like Incognito or something similar. If this book inspired a video game, it just might be the greatest one in the history of the world. Just saying. (looking at you, Ubisoft)

Occasionally, the characters can overlook something I didn't just to have a revelation later in the book, but that's about all I got in terms of plot/writing weakness. Bravo. Perhaps I should venture into adult literature more often.

But then I remember why I don't. The wanton violence, sexuality, and language present in this book (while still somewhat tame compared to other books) pushes me to my limits. I, a moral and ethical being, need a little less of all three.

If anyone has any recommendations of books with equal intellectual stimulation and plot aspects but no rampant immorality portrayed as normality, please let me know.

Mind Dimensions 2. Fantastic, fun, fast read, finished it the same day I started. So exciting I didn't want to put it down. The mind dimensions with two antithetical groups is intriguing. Love the Darren, Mira, Eugene, etc. characters. The Enlightened is now on my list.

Since he was little Darren has been able to stop time, go into the Quiet and examine his surroundings. Just a few days ago he learned that, he was not the only one with this ability, he has the ability to read minds, his mom didn't get impregnated from a sperm bank but adopted him, there are two factions--Readers and Pushers--that pretty much hate each other, and now he learned that he is not only a Reader but also has the ability to Push.

Darren visits his psychiatrist and finds out that she is a Pusher, or Guide as they call themselves. After she tests him she invites him to a party. He sees, contrary to what his new found Reader friends think, not all Guides are evil. He find himself liking Liz's friends.

Bert, Darren's friend and computer wiz, finds the location of a mob leader, which allows Darren to read the guy and get information that leads to the climax.

Wow! Jam packed action that increases right to the end

I never expected this book to be better than the first. Darren, Mira, Eugene being the main characters with the mind reading ability that freezes time was one thing but when Darren discovers that he can go deeper and put a suggestion in someone's mind that changes the dynamics of the story. Plus, adding his new group of friends in this suggestion world allows him to understand and use his powers and abilities in such a unique way that adds a new dimension that increases the story's intensity. There is so much more to this 2nd book that books you into turning the pages faster and faster until the end that it actually amazed me. I just hope book 3 continues the increase in action and involves the introduction of the new characters of Darren's aunty and Thomas as well as the pusher that's colluding with the reader to get rid of Darren. Book 3 here l come. Great job Dima

This series just keeps getting better and better! Any clunkiness that might have existed in the beginning is completely gone, and I'm sucked in to the point where I stayed up until 3am (don't tell my husband!) because I couldn't put it down. I'd made some predictions in my mind for what I expected to happen after the first couple of books, and I was right about a couple and SO wrong about others—and SO glad that I was, because what actually happened was better than my guess. (I love it when that happens!) I'm pretty deeply invested in the story and characters at this point—to the point where I bought the third and fourth books before I finished this one because I knew I wasn't going to want to stop. (And I was right. I had to finish them all before I could come back to review this one.) I HIGHLY recommend this whole series.

Book number two did doesn't disappoint

Coming into this book from the first one, I was already amped on what to expect. The author doesn't disappoint as there is more action and cunningly deceptive plot twists throughout the story. Had to catch my breath in several cases, but overall, this was a fun book to read just like the first one. Now that I have the entire series, I'm not looking forward to its conclusion, though I am excitedly filled with anticipation on what will happen next for the crew!

This book was ok. Interesting concept, easy to read and easy to put down/pick back up. Without wanting to be insulting to the book/author I found it pulpy/thought free fare you can pick up and enjoy without having to worry much.

I’ll read the next one.

One quibble I didn’t think they explained away the the “twist” very well, felt ham fisted and shoe horned and not fitting with the established “lore” but I’ll forgive it as it was just a fun read anyway.

The first book, The Thought Readers, was awesome, but this 2nd book, The Thought Pushers, was just really sub-par :( It was disjointed, & the dialogue & situations seemed forced & not believable. There just wasn't the pacing, tension, & action from the first book. The main character seemed completely insincere in his new thoughts & feelings this book. Everything seemed contrived & shallow as compared to the first book :(
I hope the 3rd book in this series is better!

Excellent storyline

This is a great series I stumbled upon in a very lackluster compendium. The characters are well developed, the writing is clean and the storyline progresses at a good pace. The basic "lie" necessary to make it science fiction is well researched and self consistent. The parallels to today's polarized society are not lost on the reader, but also not dwelt upon.
All in all a nice fast paced read. Now, I'm onto Book 3!

Wow, this was a very action packed story line. The female protagonist got on my nerves though. It perturbs me when a female character seems to be bad ass, but then behaves all emotional and reckless. Why does it all ways have to be that way. Why can't she be angry or hurt and control her emotions? Oh well, it was fantastic in spite of that flaw in my eyes.

This was an exciting book. The surprises were on point & unexpected. And if you read the reviews, there isn't any explicit romantic scenes or rape scenes in this book. There aren't any romantic type scenes in this book. That reviewer posted on the wrong book.

Not a philosophically mind-wrenching nor an emotional rollercoaster read - just a well-crafted fast-paced entertaining book. It answered the open questions left after book 1 and dangled enough strings to encourage one to keep reading the series. I needed a mental health break from the heaviness of current daily life and more serious tomes in my library -this fit the bill!

Interesting and powerful like book 1, new information

Vivid detail, non-stop action, character surprises, developing friendships, new information about Darren's mental abilities, his parents, and why they were murdered. Philosophical look at the roots of hatred and the us vs. them mentality. Shocking revelation of the enemy's identity at the end.

The series continues as Darren gets introduced to the Pusher or guide community by someone close to him. He meets his aunt and discovers how to use his power to guide others. I got caught up in the story and couldn’t wait to read the next one!
