Jesse Townsend has made it to Tennessee from Colorado where he hopes to locate his sister, Molly. Without the benefits of the internet, her exact location is unknown. Jesse, like so many others, never committed addresses to memory or paper. Will those he encounters be trusting enough to help him find her?

Bird’s fourth novel in the Society Lost series, Them, interwinds with The New Homefront Series. He seamlessly blends the two series while maintaining the integrity of both stories and each of the personalities. There’s plenty of hard-hitting action with a few tender moments sprinkled within.

Looking at the cover and title I had expected a sci-fi horror story. And, there are certain aspects of the book that fulfills that description. I am thankful that Bird kept it realistic, so much so even that I still shudder thinking about what happened.

It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here.

5 out of 5 stars.

I love Steven C Bird's books, but would have to rate this one as my favorite (so far). He flawlessly combines his characters from the Society Lost series and the Homefront series, not missing a step in keeping the characters true to their previous portrayals. The plot is a very plausible continuation of what I feel would be the natural progression of different factions of society in the aftermath of an EMP strike, and how people would cope with the change in their living conditions. I don't want to spoil the plot, so suffice it to say that this is a fast paced, intreging book that you will want to read from start to finish in one day. I can hardly wait to see what Mr Bird writes about next. Excellent read!

Them

I don't want to be around one of "Them".
EVER.
This is so different from anything Steven Bird has written.
What an exciting read. Suspenseful. Riviting. Scary. No. Change that to unbelievable, I can't believe the author wrote that scene!

The exciting part of the book is it brought two series together and ended Society Lost and The New Home Front...I can see another story come out from this.

Excellent story. Jessie's life is one we should admire. Helping others. Doing what is right. Just a good man. Enjoy the book!

This is starting to follow the established pattern of the prior novels. Jessie stumbles on good guys in trouble and decides to help and then moves on. This was more of the same except for the moving on part and Jessie was a little less of the focus too which was kind of nice. I read a lot of this genre and don't get too creeped-out anymore, but the troglodytes were beyond evil. Seriously creepy. I will continue the series since I still like Jessie and want to see what happens, but hope that the plot is not just the same thing over again.

A farewell to Jessie and Hank.

I was so disappointed that Mack wasn't able to join Jessie and Hank for the journey to Tennessee. Oh well, I can hope Mack Is having a good l life in Arkansas.
This book is jam packed with action. I really liked the story but wanted to know more about what kind of arrangements were made for Britney. Another, oh well. At least we know that Jessie and Hank are happy.
As always, happy reading.

This is a great series. The fourth book picks up with Jesse making his way across country to find his sister. Once again he comes to the aid of those in need, namely a teenage girl. While fighting occupying forces he runs into a adversary he has never come across up to this point. Lots of action keeps the pages turning. The characters are likeable and believable. I highly recommend this series to fans of the dystopian genre.

I just love the way Steven Bird starts a chapter off with a little foreshadowing and then thrusts you into the heart stopping story. I didn’t want the book to end and I am already ready for the next book (hopefully there will be more books in the home front and society lost series.

Dark!

Holy cow, this one went to some dark places, I couldn’t put it down. I’m glad I went along with Jesse on his journey in this adventure. I was sucked in, and stayed there until the last page. Good job, sir!

If you are a fan of dystopian fiction then Steven Bird must be on the top of your must read list. He has no qualms about murdering people (and) animals you love. There is plenty mayhem and. Sculduggery. To make the entire series worth reading. I think they are a blast, and hope you will too!

A nice fast moving adventure, that follows a small group trying to survive from a society of cave dwelling cannibals. I haven't read any of the earlier books, which may have helped with back stories, but this did not take away from a good story.

I enjoyed this post apocalyptic thriller that has strong hints of horror, lots of suspense, action and some great characters. The story has you on the edge of your seat and you wonder at times if anyone will survive. “Them” are truly creepy, they make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and are likely to give you nightmares. The narrator of the audiobook did an excellent job, he really brought out the emotions in the story; you could feel the fear, horror and desperation right along with the characters. This is an exciting story that will keep you glued to the pages. You don’t have to have read the prior books in the series to follow this story, but it does give you more depth and understanding of the characters if you have.

Uh, wow! I was totally absorbed into this story. I’m not a fan or horror, or anything remotely scary, but this book!!! This book draws the reader into the world the author Steven Bird has created. Survival is at the forethought of the minds of the survivors in this, the fourth book in the Society Lost series. A great read that will definitely keep you on your toes, and the nightlight on tonight.
