Clementine Winters knows her ex is out to get her. She also knows how to make man-meat with her big ol’sword. The problem is her ex is an underhanded, sneaky son of a beech tree, so she has no choice but to call in reinforcements. What she needs is someone to cover her back. What she gets is a wolf shifter who’s rough, gruff and everything that drives her inner squirrel wild. All she needs to do now is save her own hide, get rid of the idiot ex, and convince the big bad wolf that he belongs to her.
Bryce McCabe can’t and won’t claim his mate. Equally exhilarated and terrified by the opportunity to protect the beauty he’s secretly adored from afar, Bryce steels himself to keep the truth hidden. He’ll do his job and walk away, his heart studded with the painful memories of the little time he’ll have with her. Little does he know protecting her is going to be the easy part. Resisting her is a whole other bowl of nuts.

“Word of advice? Never tell me I can’t do something. What you mean to say, is I shouldn’t. Because if you tell me I can’t, you may as well be daring me to prove you wrong.”

Clementine was so much fun. A squirrel shifter ex model who is great with a sword?! Insane and original. She was assertive without being pushy and she had a great sense of humor. Bryce was almost perfect but I didn't love his willingness to let her go (even if it made sense). His loving all of the craziness she brought to his life was a treat to read.
I liked this a lot! Hero was sweet and shy, he blushed every time the heroine would say something to him. He was a virgin and she was the experienced one. The book is funny and cute. I laughed at the heroine. I liked her a lot. Bring on Rae’s book!
“More fun for me. Smashing things is cathartic. Some chicks dig yoga and meditating. Me? Annihilation and adrenaline.”
“I’m going to find Grant. And then I’m going to play a game of pin the sword on the jackass.”
He’d be anything for Clementine, but mostly, he just wanted to be what she needed.
when Clementine looked at him, all she saw was a man who’d finally found his home. She saw a rogue wolf discovering his true tribe.
He shook his head. “Am I’m enough for you?” “More than enough.”
3.5 stars. Super cute and mostly sweet novella. I liked the squirrel shifter paired with a wolf match up. However, I’m disappointed that all of those years were wasted because the hero was too scared to be rejected and so he didn’t even try to approach the heroine. He just watched her from afar and allowed her to be with OM. It’s sad to think about. I think this story could have been longer, but it’s relatively good for the length.
Safe; hero virgin, heroine experienced, no OW drama, slight OM drama from her ex fiancé trying to kill her, no scenes with OM/OW, no cheating.

This was my first book with a squirrel shifter. And I loved that part of it. I was really curious how the author would treat a squirrel shifter and Clementine behaved exactly like you would expect (a little hyper, nuts, sweet, feisty) but she is also loyal and determined. Bryce is a wolf shifter who has known that she was his mate for over a decade. He is a rogue wolf and so feels unworthy of a mate and that he would ruin her life so he avoids her and doesn't claim her.
Clementine has just broken off her engagement to another squirrel shifter after she found him cheating. Turns out he is a in debt to some wolverines and is trying to kidnap her for ransom. He's bad news.
This was a pretty ordinary true mates book. I didn't like that Bryce denied his feelings for so long, but I have to give it extra points just for the squirrels. Clementine was the star of the show and I really liked the unique-ness of her story.
Bryce McCabe is a rogue wolf, which means he recognizes no alpha and this causes a lot of tension when he's around other predatory shifters. Once, many years earlier, Bryce rescued squirrel shifter, Clementine Winters from drowning and instantly recognized her as his mate, but he disappeared before anything could happen, since he doesn't believe she could be happy with someone like him. Now, he's and his partner have been hired as her bodyguards. Clementine does recognize Bryce and also knows he's her mate. She doesn't care that he's a rogue wolf or that he's not accepted in shifter society - she doesn't think he's not good enough for her at all. She wants a future with Bryce and she'll do whatever she has to in order to convince him.
This was pretty much a delight to read. First of all, I loved that the hero was a virgin and that he chose not to have sex with other women once he knew that Clementine was his mate, even though he didn't plan to claim her. I didn't get the impression that it was a lack of opportunity. He was that dedicated to his mate. I never fault the guys who don't stay celibate when they don't plan to try with the woman they love, but I love it when they do anyway. And this hero also wasn't an "expert" virgin. He clearly didn't know what he was doing and relied on the expertise of the heroine. It was pretty sexy. This had just the right amount of humor to it, not OTT or ridiculous humor (though it did get a bit much at times), and this coming from someone who doesn't care for humor in their romance. I have to give credit to an author who can describe a hero trying to catch and hold on to an angry squirrel shifter and who can make me picture it as though I were watching it. And the heroine's personality was pretty much spot on for a squirrel shifter. She was feisty, quick-tempered and even had the over-bite. I liked the hero okay, but he got pretty maudlin and pathetic at times. He was pretty perfectly romantic though, especially in dealing with his heroine. This was fun to read and I'll look for more from this author.

A little bit squirrelly is the first book of Nova Carlyle’s that I have read. I can honestly say that it won’t be the last. I read this book in one sitting and didn’t once put it down. I will admit that I had mixed feelings on this story at first. In the beginning I liked the story but thought it was a little daft/silly but as the story progressed I found myself enjoying the story more and more. For the first part of this book I wasn’t a fan of Clementine. I was annoyed that she hired Bryce and Rae but wouldn’t come out of her room to meet them. As the story progressed, I liked Clementine more and more. I liked how feisty she was. She accepted Bryce as he was. She was annoyed that he put himself down. She liked him for him yet he didn’t feel like he was good enough. I liked how protective she was of him. I was in stitches of laughter when Clementine tried going after Nico. I liked that Bryce adored Clementine. I liked that he didn’t try and control her. He trusted her to be able take on the danger head on. I wish this story were longer because I wanted more scenes between Clementine and Bryce. When Clementine mentioned that Bryce had saved her years ago, I wanted to know more. It was mentioned briefly but I wanted to know more and how that came about. I liked Rae. I thought she was a good friend to Bryce. She didn’t judge him or treat him like the others did. I hope to read her story at some point. I liked her irritation at Nico. The storyline for this book is fairly easy to follow and an enjoyable read.
This is a new author for me and I was completely delighted! I just love Celia Kyle and her world of Grayslake and feel very protective of who is allowed to "play" there, but Ms.Carlyle fits right in! She created the perfect squirrel shifter when she wrote Clementine Winters. She is a bold, brave, just nutty enough to love, and a strong female character. I love the whole idea of her waving a sword around with the skill to fight her own battles. Bryce McCabe is just the one to make sure the battle is fair. This story describes a rogue wolf differently than I have read in other stories in that he was born that way (kind of like Clem's two fathers). I think this is the first time I have read an alpha wolf being a virgin because the other shifters couldn't tolerate a rogue among them, and of course, he still has to hide who he is from humans. I really loved how Clem handled their first time together and how she eventually gets him to see his own worth. LOVED when she smashes his sunglasses! This was such an unexpected delight to read. Like being totally surprised by someone getting you something as a gift that you thought no one knew about you. I am definitely going to look at other stories by this author and hope to find more treasures. I would totally recommend this book! Couldn't put it down!
A Little Bit Squirrelly is a hilariously fun quick read. It has action, danger, humor and a love story all rolled up into one fulfilling story.
Clementine knows that she's in danger, even if those around her don't fully believe her - so she gets someone who can help keep her safe - and in the process discovers her mate - if only she could get him to see it that way.
Bryce is a wolf shifter and he's known his mate for years - but he's also known he can't do anything with that knowledge - that is until he's called in to help protect her and can't keep away. Now that Clementine has also noticed him as more than the wolf protecting her - things are game on. But first - they have to work together to keep her alive and well.
I loved the banter between Clementine and Bryce - their interactions were equally hilarious and sweet, with a sparking chemistry between them. I loved that Clementine was just as capable of protecting her hide - but that she could accept when she needed help and do her part. Though this story is shorter and will leave you longing for more - it is a complete love story that will leave you happily sighing as well.
Nova Carlyle has written a fun, unique story within these pages, and you'll enjoy every word of this unexpected duo.
In my yard, squirrels are a pain. They steal the birdseed out of the feeders and are basically major pains. But this squirrel was different. Clementine was a squirrel shifting supermodel with a problem- her ex was trying to kill her. So she does what any smart squirrel would do,she hired a bodyguard. Bryce was a wolf with issues. Considered a rogue he was a loner whose pack abandoned him as a child. He shows up with his partner Rae,a panther shifter, and the fun begins. Bryce had saved Clementine when they were teens and he knew Clementine to be his fated mate. The fun starts when her ex,Grant, attacks her at her home. Clementine recognizes Bryce as the boy who saved her from drowning years ago and she realizes their connection. Clementine was great. If I could picture how a squirrel would act as a human, she is it. Her 2 fathers were a hoot, too. The way she forced Bryce to realize that they could be together was moving. Lots of laughs and love here. I really enjoyed it.
Have read a lot of shifter books but this is the first one with a squirrel. I liked it and loved the characters. Our hero is super damaged, which I love. And those introverted males who don’t feel worthy of love need outgoing and outrageous heroine’s like this! Loved how innocent and desperate for touch he was. She kinda rushed it but was loving and kind throughout and I kinda understood the rush, needing to claim their mate and all. Best shifter book I have read in a while! A really good deflowing!
Virgin rating: Innocence of virgin hero: 3/5 Innocence in losing it: 4.5/5 Build up to losing it: 3/5 Hotness of losing it: 5/5 Busted touching himself: no POV of losing it: female
This was the first time I have read this author and I have already purchased two more of her books,so mission accomplished Kindle Worlds. I love the opportunity to try new authors in established settings. This author hit the mark with likeable characters, and action laced storyline. I loved the unique shifters! This author is one I look forward to continuing to read!
I absolutely loved this book. I like a little bit of humor or even silly in the main characters. Romance and danger and a feisty heroine. As Clementine tells Bryce, " The rest of the world looks at me and sees a crazy harpy. You look at me and I get goosebumps on my heart." Now, I believe that I have discovered another author that I like.
You'll love the squirrelly Clementine Winters as she deals with exhole (ex+whole - her word for her ex fiancé) as well as trying to capture her reluctant mate. Feisty and over eager to use her sword for some well earned personal justice while making it a hilarious ride of laughs you won't son forget.😂😂😂
I absolutely adored these characters. I love sassy, badass women, and Clementine is definitely sassy and badass. Bryce is super sweet and they just mesh perfectly. I cannot wait for the next book from Nova
Quick, fun afternoon read about a fiesty & fierce little squirrel shifter that isn't going to let her ex get to her & a rogue wolf that's reserved and a bit standoff-ish that is there to protect her.
I liked this short story but wished there was more.
Awesome love the Grayslake's stories doesn't even matter if the it answer aren't in it but mentioned. This was a squirrlly no! nutsy story I laughed so much and my heart was broken for Bryce. All in all this was a fantastic story.
Rogue wolf,Bryce left alone as a young child.finds his mate but cannot claim her. He doesn’t fit into her world so he loves her from afar. Until her life is threatened.. this was about acceptance. Sad. Id love to see more of Bryce and clementine
I love have kick ass crazy this lady is and the fact that she proves being different doesn't matter. She just has to convince her true mate of this and get rid of her ex while remaining alive.
This story made my laugh so hard that I cried. I loved the characters. The storyline was fantastic. The characters were fun. It read very well. I guarantee that you will really enjoy this story.
