How can you keep track of all your favorite things? Group them on a graph! Favorite foods, games, and animals illustrate how common characteristics create organized groups.
This is a very simplistic book if one were to read the book for its face value and leave it at that. The lessons plans that I was quickly forming in my head as I read this book though added so much more value to what it already had to offer! In this book there are children in a classroom that are learning to graph with some of their favorites (snacks, animals, and animals). In each scenario the children show the reader through graphs the two ways that they graphed the items and then ask “can you think of other ways to make graphs of our favorite_____?” I feel that for young children this could be a very thought provoking question to try and push them to think more outside of the box. I would love to use this book to introduce graphing to young kids and give them cutouts of the things the kids were already graphing and have them work together in groups to determine more ways to graph the items.
