3.5 rounded up - I found another one of my microtropes, people, and it was a good one. Davy was a 10/10 spectacular human being and treated Rose so well 🥺
Oh how I enjoyed this story! It was a great take on the much loved “marriage of convenience” plot and I was captivated by the story line right from the start. I listened to the audio book version of this story and I thought that the narrator did a good job of voicing how timid and unsure of herself Rose was.
I really liked the set up for this book, as well as the characters. Rose was timid and scared, because of the way her late husband had treated her. Combine that with a bad situation with her stepmother growing up, and you end up with a woman who questions every motive and is very insecure. She was so scared to make a mistake, and fearful that Davy would turn mean or lose his temper the way her first husband did. Seeing the way Davy cared for her and the gentle way he treated her was heartwarming.
Davy was just an all around great leading man. He was strong and sure with the way he handled horses and the cattle, yet gentle and kind to Rose. It was sweet to watch him fall in love with her and eventually see him interact with the baby. He had his own insecurities based on his past experiences as an orphan, but they just made him more understanding of Rose.
I truly enjoyed this book from start to finish and plan to listen to it again in the future.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a great story about Davy finding the love of his life at the cabin he built to spend the winter in. Okay, so he didn't know she would be the love of his life, and yes, she'd made herself at home. And oh my, what a baby bump that was.
Rose finds herself stuck in a cabin not knowing which direction to find civilization. Her husband is dead, she's running out of food and fuel, and besides, she's a city girl.
Watching the two get to know each other was fun. And there was plenty of adventure and some wild and trying times when they went to visit Davy's family. But what's a girl to do when she falls in love with her cowboy?
There's a lot to like about Lacy William's new historical. First there's a heroine who truly loses everything and survives, all the while thinking she's helpless. Than, there's the hero who knows a diamond when he sees one. I loved watching the heroine blossom and liked how she had to worry about Davy's mother while worrying about giving birth :)
Her Convenient Cowboy is an amazing book. I listened to the audible version and loved listening to every minute of it. The book is so sweet and romantic. It's a great marriage of convenience story. I will be looking for more by Lacy Williams in the future. Highly highly recommended. 5 plus stars.
Davy White, of the White family clan, just wants to winter in the family cabin and watch over his cattle investment in the Wyoming highlands. He shows up and finds a squatter has moved in and consumed all of his food supplies and firewood. Rose Evans, city girl, is pregnant and totally alone since the accidental death of her husband. Davy, having been raised as a gentleman, assists her and an uneasy alliance is formed. Petite, pretty and very timid, Rose does not know what to make of her life saver! Both of them have been abused and neglected in their pasts and trust does not come easy. What is to become of them? What a lovely sweet and growing relationship full of hazards, danger, and unpredictable events. This is my ninth read of a Lacy Williams offering and she has never failed to satisfy the incurable romantic inside of me. Her stories are clean, devoid of profanity and overt sexuality, and full of original creative plots. This is just one in a series of books that I intend to read so I can understand the bewildering array of White family members!
I liked the fact that this was a clean romance. And the story was good, even though Rose's sense of worthlessness seemed a little overdone at times. The family was so large I couldn't remember any names except the parents, the missing brother, & the only sister it seemed. I only disliked 2 things though overall..the "what? Why?!" an exclamation I thoroughly hate. And I sincerely doubt anyone used it in the year 1900. Also the "little white dog" who had no name & never did anything except follow Davy to the line shack & then disappear except for moments when the author apparently remembered it was supposed to be there. It was supposedly Breanna's dog, but it never greeted or went home with her. It had zero purpose in the plot. I WAS glad that Ricky's absence was somewhat explained, though it was never fully explained..just that he had an argument then left. Argument about what? Only the author knows because she sure didn't tell the readers. Still the story itself between Davy & Rose was a good one.
3 stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical western romance Her Convenient Cowboy (Wild Wyoming Hearts Book 10){Wind River Hearts book 10} { Wyoming Legacy book 5} by Lacy Williams and this review was given freely. An instant attraction, friends to more romance with a heartwarming reunion. Beginning December 1900, six months after his closest brother and "Winter Herd" venture partner Ricky's sudden departure, Davy White finds himself lonely, jealous of his married brothers and preparing to spend the winter alone watching the herd from the family's line shack. Challenges arise when he finds the cabin inhabited by the abuse surviving pregnant widow Rose Evans , his winter supplies gone, and a wolf stalking the herd. Davy's gentle steadfast caring brings healing to Rose moving them towards the family they both dream of.
Her Convenient Cowboy is Davy's story. When he goes up the mountain to winter in the lineshack, he finds it occupied. By a woman. Who is very pregnant. Who recently buried her husband after he was fatally injured when he was thrown from a horse. When they meet, Davy has his rifle trained on her and she has a Derringer trained on him. They talk a bit & declare a truce just as a blizzard blows in & prevents him from taking her down the mountain. Forced to interact in a one room cabin for several days before the blizzard clears, they start to tolerate each other. You can guess how it turns out, of course. And you'd be right. But it was a good, predictable read. I have one objection: Breanna's little dog never has been named! He needs a name! Also, when Rose had her baby on Christmas day, I wanted her to name her Holly.
I felt like this was a very sweet love story with a subliminal message. Do not make assumptions about the feelings and thoughts of another instead, find the courage to communicate. Here is the story of Rose who is very insecure and afraid to fail due to the mistreatment of her stepmother and her late husband. Then she encounters Davy who has his own insecurities, but he is someone with only good intentions and he is nothing like Rose’s late husband. Davy is a gentleman and only wants to help Rose who is pregnant and alone. Rose constantly misreads his thoughts and assumes he will eventually get angry when she makes mistakes, as did her late husband. Lacy did a good job taking me through a story of patience, persistence and finally acceptance and love.
This was a fun read. The setting for the story was interesting. Davy finds Rose in his line shack and she's pregnant. He quickly feels he needs to protect and provide for her and the baby since her husband is dead. How they get married and adjust to life together is a tender love story. Davy does everything to win Rose's love. She is terrified Davy is like Jamie and will turn on her when she does something wrong. But Davy stays the course. Then Rose goes into labor and it's only Davy and Rose in the line shack. Every woman would want a Davy as her husband. Just how he takes care of Rose and the baby to get the family he always wanted was funny at times, but a happy ending for all.
This is an intricate exploration of how a chance encounter can be almost predestined. The author has done an excellent job of integrating a number of events into a captivating tale of growing love while describing a period prior to vehicles - settlers in Wyoming. The weather remains a huge factor throughout the tale but perhaps does not capture the bitterness of winter storms on a mountain in that part of the country. This book can be a stand-alone as it is the first book in this series I had read.
Lacy Williams comes through with another gripping story from beginning to end. The loud, boisterous White family is filled with love, adventure, plenty of the obstacles of life and the abilities to handle everything thrown at them with dignity, respect and love. I highly recommend this series, they’re well written, engrossing to the point of keeping you reading late into the night and satisfying as a four course dinner! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Davy and Rose's story and towards the end Ricky and Daisy. Both orphans brothers met and waited to be placed. Jonas White chose them. Now grown men and working the family ranch Ricky leaves in Edgar and Fran's story with no word. Everyone wondering. Rose is a recent heavily pregnant widow staying in the cabin up in the hills after burying her husband. The White family do what they do and welcome Rose and baby Helen. ebook from the library .
Disappointing book. The male is perfect, the woman incredibly insecure: for me, this imbalance is a turnoff. Secondly, the story is extremely unrealistic: just one example, a family with two physicians lets a son and daughter-in-law ride horseback several hours in a Wyoming winter to stay in an isolated cabin when the woman is about a week from childbirth? Get real.
There were other examples of stupidity, but this was the most egregious. Lacy Williams, you usually do much better than this.

Such a great Cowboy, City girl romance! Davy shows up at his cabin to weather the winter and watch his cattle in a protected valley... Surprise, surprise, he arrives to find his cabin has been occupied! He is a true gentleman and you can't help but truly love him. Rose is all alone and has zero survival skills for wilderness living, and is pregnant. She can never see herself as a woman who has value, she struggles to feel accepted. This is a sweet and endearing love story... and I will read it again!
This is such a cute story. When cowboy Davy White arrives at his fathers line shack, he finds a young pregnant widow, out of food and wood. He takes her back to his fathers house as she is set on finding a job to support her and her unborn baby. When its apparent that threre is no job to be had, Davy proposes marriage as a solution for her. At first she refuses but soon agrees. They marry and later he helps birth a baby girl. There is a feel good ending for this sweet story.
Sweet and clean historical western romance about a newly widowed docile pregnant young woman who finds shelter in a line shack where a young cowboy owner finds her. Story starts out strong and interesting but becomes a bit mundane as the now married couple attempt to adjust to one another, his expanded family and her new baby. Recommended for those who enjoy the above genre.
This book has it all. Romance, danger, family and a beautiful little baby girl. It shows that family values, love and patience is all that we need. It is a beautiful love story not only about 2 people but about a whole family. That proves family isn't about just blood but love. Family can be from the heart too.
I enjoyed reading the book. I'd read some of Lacy Williams' work before, but this is the best I've seen yet from her. I'll have to check out some more books in this series. If you enjoy clean, historical romance with a bit of faith peppered throughout, you'll probably want to add this to your TBR list.
Finding a cabin to shelter from the storm is a blessing!
This story has depth and compassion as a stranger takes shelter in a mountain cabin. Winter storms can happen suddenly in the mountains and without shelter can be deadly. The cattle farmer finds his cabin is now inhabited and he has a big decision to make. This is a wonderful story.
I really like the story Laci created: the lingering fear and pain from past (verbal) abuse, doubts and feelings of inadequacy are slowly broken by persistent, unselfish, unconditional love giving Davy and Rose a chance at strong and secure love. The story is well-written and the characters are again very relatable!
He was abandoned, rescued, and loved. He in turn learned to rescue and love. He longed for the love of a family of his own. She was betrayed by those who should have loved her. She is alone, widowed, and with child. She has no self esteem or self worth. What can God do with them? Highly recommended for all readers.
When Davy arrived at the line shack where he planned to spend the winter, he was surprised to.find an uninvited stranger that had eaten all his stocked food and burned all.his chopped wood. Rose was just doing what she could to survive after her husband's death. BBC
Davy was one of the quieter brothers and I liked that this romance reflected that. The weather was the most challenging element instead of an outside enemy. His kind care of Rose was endearing. Each brother has had a unique story and this was another enjoyable outing in the series.
What a sweet story about a city girl and the cowboy she falls for! But can she measure up to what she thinks he needs in a wife? Wonderful addition to the White family series! Loved it!
I enjoyed this sweet cowboy romance, though I will confess that Rose annoyed me with her constant fear. I was so happy that she was finally able to overcome her timidity.
This is a very good story. Davy really knows how to treat people. His kindness and heartwarming attitude is so inspiring. Rose is not use to being treated nicely. This is a very refreshing story.
Davy and Rose were perfect for each. Davy wanted and needed a family to love and Rose and little Helen were just what he needed. Rose needed Davy’s unconditional love and acceptance. Love is truly miraculous and healing.
