Connor is a guarded, sarcastic, and pessimistic graduate student struggling with anxiety and depression after a painful childhood tragedy. Liam is an anxious, eternal optimist, with a vivacious care for others and an extreme amount of loyalty. Through flashbacks of their first encounter as teenagers as they fight through the trials and traumas of being human, being themselves, and discovering what it really means to know another person. When tragedy pulls them apart in the throws of adolescent happiness, the universe strings them back together as jaded adults. Connor's numb existence comes to a grinding halt when Liam finds his way back home, painfully reminding him that life was never meant to be easy... but becomes worth the struggle when there is someone by your side worth living for.
I'm not sure if it's fair for me to leave a review, as the author. But I can say, that having read it again recently, 6 years after it was originally published, I often find myself forgetting that I wrote it. And there are quite a few poignant lines that still punch me in the gut. I can honestly say that I adore Connor and Liam's characters, to this day, and I'm very grateful for the feedback I've gotten since STIFLE's publication that they're relatable and healing.
This book is absolutely amazing! It's a beautifully written story with the right amount of mystery and passion but can and will take you by surprise at every turn.
This book was such a solid read. It was quick but so important. I think it did a good job of depicting the awkwardness we all feel as teens and how it’s not so easy to make go away.
