Murmur and Fable are left reeling after Somnia’s servers crash, and nothing is quite the same. Even as they challenge new dungeons, Murmur is haunted by an old enemy who seeks to take her down a dark path.
Meanwhile, Laria and Shayla struggle to hide Wren’s prolonged immersion in the game from coworkers and sponsors alike, forcing them to seek out unlikely allies.
As more people are made aware of Wren’s predicament, freeing her from Somnia becomes even more crucial. But it seems the game has other plans for her, and not even the AIs know what they are.
KT Hanna has a love for words so extreme, a single word can spark entire worlds.
Born in Australia, she met her husband in a computer game, moved to the U.S.A. and went into culture shock. Bonus? Not as many creatures specifically out to kill you.
When she’s not writing, she freelance edits for Chimera Editing, and chases her daughter, husband, corgi, and cat. No, she doesn’t sleep. She is entirely powered by the number 2, caffeine, and beef jerky.
This is so dark and it's kept me on my toes. I love Snowy so much... he just gets right in there saving Murmur and her guild mates when they need him the most. Best wolf ever!
I just can't seem to get enough of this series. I hope that K. T. Hanna decides to continue the story after the series last book. I'm not ready for it to end and I'm getting closer.
I'm so glad that the angst and internal monologues have been turned down and a focus on moving the story and characters forward has come back.
I don't know if it's because this book is following the previous one (which I did not care much for) or if it's true as a standalone achievement, but I feel like this is probably the best book in the series so far.
Another reviewer made a comment that struck me ... that (paraphrased) "the series makes just enough progress in each book". The quests and encounters would start getting old (as there are multiple per book) where they could feel like a grind or fighting for fighting's sake. But each encounter serves an overall purpose to one of (possibly multiple) plot points. Both smaller and larger overall plot archs are always moving forward.
I was surprised that one of the major plot arch's had a major answer at the tail end of this book. I was also glad the author did so without dragging out the answer until end of series. Now I am excited to see how this development completely throws a monkey-wrench into things. A bad analogy for this development would be the author casually walking by, whistling to herself, pulling the pin out of a grenade with her teeth, tossing the grenade into a room of poor unsuspecting schmucks, and continuing to walk down the hall without breaking stride while continuing to whistle. This was totally a "lets just throw a big damn curve ball with two pages left in the book". If the series wasn't complete so I could immediately roll into the next book, I would be pissed. LOL.
To me, this was probably the strongest book of the series yet and I am chomping at the bit for book five to get here from Amazon.
You'd think after 4 books this would be getting a bit tired but with each book there's a fine balance between gaming and real world plot development that it doesn't.
Of course, the guild is almost max level so, hopefully this won't just turn into guild raids to top tier gear diary. lol
Some hints have been confirmed but the overall mystery of the why Murmer is stuck and the role of the AIs remains.
As I said, each book lays down enough progress to keep this from becoming just WoW fanfic and it's very enjoyable. I'd hope, based on the events in this book that hte next book concentrates more on the real world for a bit. I know it's a LitRPG book but I think some real world things need to be explored and explained.
I'm really enjoying this series since getting past Anomaly bk2. The premise is solid, the writings excellent, and there's plenty of action. As an aside the story wouldn't be the same without Andrea Parsneau personal touch, her performance is par-excellent. As Murmur and her team Fable dig deeper into the game to not only gain stats, but find out just how real Somnia Online is. While she tackles the question from the inside so to her mother, Laura one of the lead programmer is working on it from her office...
Powerful MC. She's great at what she does. But, such a tough grind. This one was exciting. I thought some of the combat experience was lost in the focus on Mur's experience of the events. It still was an enjoyable read. But I would like more highs to go with the lows. Great series.
I am not much for writing reviews but here are some of what I feel about this story.. I need more.. When is the audio book coming out so I can get it to hold me an extra day until the next book... I need more.. I hope that gets the just of it across. :-)
I enjoyed this book with the plot twists and turns, development of the characters and the open storyline with loads of opportunity to go for a couple of books more, my only critique how long before book 5? :o)
I'm now four books in and still hooked. Good plot, likeable characters. I am looking forward to number five, but I think I have caught up and will have to wait.
I love this series! I like all of the characters, the multiple plots going on, both in and out of the game, and the story is fast paced yet has detail when needed. Interestingly, we are seeing more from the other guilds in this book and I can see this world spinning off additional series in the future (hopefully!)
I bought both the Kindle format and the Audible book and switched between them, so I could listen to the story on long drives. I definitely recommend the Audible version for anyone who likes to listen to books. Andrea Parsneau does an excellent job with the voices.
Note: there is gory violence every once in a while, during battles.
