In recent years, bullying has become pervasive in schools—but many teachers, school administrators, Boards of Education and even parents fail to recognize it when it happens. But Charlena Jackson has firsthand experience: her three children, and the children of other families, have all been victims of bullying. In "I'm Speaking Up But You're Not Listening!" she explores bullying and how other children are not always the only perpetrators. Adults can bully, too.
Documented within the book are police reports filed when the school's response was unsatisfactory, medical reports when the bullying resulted in injury, and transcripts of parent-teacher conferences that provided few answers. Bullying is a silent killer, often resulting in a child's attempt to take his or her own life when they just can't take anymore. It's hoped is that parents, adminstrators, and law enforcement become familiar with the signs of bullying and use their influence and power to stop it before it goes too far.

My wife and I are a huge fan of the author Charlena E. Jackson books! We've read all of her published books for far and was NEVER disappointed. All of her books have messages that you will never forget. Her messages will open your eyes to a new and profound way of how you look at life. I'm Speaking Up but You're Not Listening is an OUTSTANDING book! AWESOME book!!
My wife and I were going through a lot with my son being bullied in school and afterschool care. We thought we did everything in our power, however, after reading I'm Speaking Up but You're Not Listening we realized we have more work to do.
As a man, this book was very emotional for me to read. My wife had a lot of weak moments because she felt like she was reading my son's story from being bullied. As the author stated we must be our children voice when their voice is being ignored. There are too many children taken their lives because nobody is hearing them out.
This is most definitely a must read! Charlena E. Jackson writes books that are meaningful and all of them have a message that is needed to be heard and read. I think all schools, libraries, homes. churches, juveniles, courthouse, salons, barber shops, book fair, etc., need this book on their shelves. This book needs to be everywhere. IT is the main topic of what is going on in the world today.
Our children's matters and their voices deserve to be heard.
I'm Speaking up but You're Not Listening is a well-written book. Parents, teacher, and higher authorities need to read this book. They need to have an understanding of how our precious children feel inside and out. Our children voice needs and deserve to be heard. I'm Speaking up but You're Not Listening need to be in the libraries, everyone's shelves, doctor's offices, etc. This is a great good. Very real and very true of what our babies go through.
I am currently in the process of reading this book. I just finished the last book Teachers Just Don't Understand Bullying Hurts. And I must say it was an outstanding book! I really like this book so far too it is more of an adult like book and talks about bullying and tells more in depth stories. It is sad how things like this happens in real life. But I've grown to love this author and her work. Recommended!
Where was this book when I needed it lol! Charlena E. Jackson was on point! I went through a lot with my children's' teachers, principals, higher education and the list goes on! We need to stand up for our children because clearly nobody else isn't. I relate to this book from the beginning to the end!
I wish teachers and higher education would read this book. They would learn a thing or two.
The author did a great job! Well written! Well explained!
I am a school counselor and I love how this series reaches kids that are being bullied, kids that are afraid to intervene because they are afraid they will be the next victim, and kids that don't think they are bullies but are. The author provides follow up activities which are a little less than half of the book. Overall, I recommend it.
1st... The author speaks the truth! Our children are speaking up, but nobody is listening--and I mean nobody. My little man is in the 1st grade and he is being bullied. He tells the teacher, yet, nothing is done. I had a teacher conference, again they didn't do anything. The other day, I had a parent, teacher and principal conference and I have yet seemed any improvements. It seems as though the kid that's bullying my child has gotten worse. What will it take!
2nd, The author touches on so much in I'm Speaking Up but You're Not Listening. I am not going to give it away, because parents, guardians, teachers, administrators in the school need to read and have this book on the shelf!
"What about Us" is a POWERFUL chapter! Oh my sweet lamb, I cried, because children were telling their story about them being bullied.
We need to be our babies voice! We need to make sure our babies voices are heard. As the author calls it The Silent Killer is killing our babies!! Do not get me wrong, we have some good teachers, but for the most part, we have teachers and higher authority who do not care, because they feel as though "kids will be kids." The Silent Killer is killing our babies, as the author says, The Silent Killer is taking our babies birthright which is love, peace, joy, happiness and living a childlike life! Our babies are killing themselves because they are tired of facing the silent killer alone. We have to take a stand against bullying because it is NOT being taken seriously for it had gone way too far and our babies, voices are not being heard.
Another great resource! I work with youth in schools and this book (and the whole collection of these books) has been incredibly helpful in helping the children understand themselves and where their emotions are coming from, and then helps them apply this understanding in guided work that leads them to greater control over themselves. Wonderful!
This book was recommended by one of my friends wife and she assure me that you gonna love it after reading it and she was because i cant stop reading this and your other book as well. great work
This book had me speechless, but I also had so much to say and relate to. Our children no matter child, preteen, or teenager needs to be heard and listened to. I love that the author wrote about such a realistic and common topic.
An excellent resource for children to use. Their own words and agency is an important therapeutic tool. This book offers a unique way for children to express their feelings and for parents or counselors to experience their journey with them.
As same your first book, once you start reading this you will not be able to put it down. And that's fine, it's a short read and since it's so gripping you don't even notice how fast you are turning the pages to see what happens next
Great book for teens. Used as a small group discussion and the kids appreciated the material and answered the questions truthfully. I ordered several books for the ongoing program.
Great book! It has a great meaning and it piggy backs off of Teachers Don't Understand Bullying Hurts and they both are just AMAZING and very POWERFUL books!
After reading your first book (Teachers Just Don't Understand Bullying Hurts) i hav decided to read the 2nd as well i love it too i appreciate your concept.
