This book is awesome. I am on a quest to make every single thing in this cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow and everything is fairly simple. I've probably made a little under half the recipes so far and only found two my husband and I didn't like that we thought we would. I think this book is a great first cookbook to anyone escpecially someone you know who is a vegetarian. The recipes in this book are everyday recipes, nothing too hard and there is a lot of room to add your own fun tweeks.
It seems pretty basic, but for a newb like me it has lots of great ideas to help ‘expand my horizons’. I have only made two recipes from it so far and they were easy and delicious. The recipes are written in a friendly and straightforward tone. I particularly like that two metrics are provided (ex. 2tbsp or 30 ml of lemon juice) because that makes it easier for me to scale measurements. Recommended if you want to eat more vegetarian meals but aren’t sure where to start.
My first vegetarian cookbook, and it got me through that initial "how does one make a meal without meat??" stage (primarily by reminding you of all the meatless dishes you already know and love). Oh, and there's sort of a "vegetarian ingredients for dummies" intro that I used as a constant reference for a while.
I don't use it much anymore as there's no nutritional info and the recipes tend more toward the tasty than the healthy. But there are a few dishes I go back to again and again. Pasta a la Caprese comes immediately to mind.
This books makes vegetarianism easy and accessible. Full of fun, friendly facts, and more consistently excellent recipes than any other I've found. From meat-like recipes like "nearly normal" shepherd's pie, to standard meatless faves like potato soup (yum yum yum), to full on veggie deliciousness -- roasted veggie marinades-- and wonderful desserts like homemade fruit sorbet and super easy chocolate mousse, this book has many full on meals and treats for everyone. Also indicated where recipes are vegan or able to be vegan-adapted. Highly, highly recommended.
This is the second ever recipe book I've bought. Usually figure that I can get whatever recipes I need much more easily online. Yet, this book's recipes seemed so good, that I figured I'd try it. First one I made today, was quite good.
.... so what's the problem? You get no nutritional content info for the recipes (e.g. how many calories per serving, how much protein per, etc). And for somebody trying to switch away from meat, etc., it's important to know that kind of stuff.
I'll start with the fact that I haven't actually tried any of the recipes yet, but I did mark about a dozen or so. I thought the info in the book was good overall. We aren't planning on totally going vegetarian, but we do like to incorporate meatless meals regularly. I have it just 3 stars though because I didn't find any recipes that were super creative or inspiring. They were pretty standard. But I'll try a few of the ones that I found interesting and if I'm super impressed I may change my rating. Overall though, a good read. :)
Lots of what seem like good, solid recipes, but nothing I couldn't probably come up with on my own. I'm looking for "wow" and "go to grocery store now" Something different. This wasn't it. Seems like a solid little book, though. Just not what I'm looking for.
A great book for those of us who are easing towards the vegetarian way of life. There are a lot of recipes in this book that I'm going to try. I do appreciate the information on ingredients that I'm not familiar with and the humour too.
A very straight forward intro to vegetarianism with a fair amount of the book dedicated to basic recipes. A few recipes that piqued my interest but otherwise a simple and short starter book.
