Awoken hundreds of years into the future, Mykel Drake traverses a post apocalyptic world in search of answers. Why was he brought back? Why can't he remember anything? What became of the last humans? Then one day, he meets a mysterious old man who comes barring a message from the stars. Now, Mykel must journey out into the Cosmos for answers. But what lurks in the void just may prove to be his undoing. Only time will tell.
My first time reading it I thought the author was just some kid who didnt know what he was doing. Like many debut novels, it left much to be desired and was too ambitious. But! Here is the thing. I reread it with my book club and from a poetry perspective, its lowkey genius.
Is the story messy? Yes. But the poetry he built within. The darkness emerging, consuming the MMC and him becoming the main villain at the end? Yes. Just yes. Doing memory fragments instead of chapters worked so well.
I think the author needs to release a new version, one cleaner. Focusing more on the poetry and ditching the cosmic powers. From a poets perspective I think he has potential. Alot of potential. But this book wasn't ready yet. But I believe in him. Hopefully he picks up the pen and shows the world what he can do.
