Part 2 of this two-part memoir, 'Le Prof' covers the relocation of middleaged ex-pat Bryan James to rural west France from 2011-2016 after a mad year in Paris where he then builds a working life in and around nearby Nantes. As well negotiating the pitfalls of rural isolation, strikes, quitting smoking, exploitative landlords and a biased legal system, Bryan stubbornly goes about getting to the source of many of France's language problems: the schools, colleges and the national education system where so many are struggling to teach a language not of their own making. A large part of this book documents the year he spent teaching English to French teenagers in a public secondary school and is a unique record that culminated in the shock Brexit vote of June 2016.
