With Will Reisner recovering from his near-death encounter with Roland while battling his own demons, the remaining elements of the U.S. fleet in the Gulf are undertaking last-ditch efforts to secure the remaining fuel supply for their vessels amidst growing hordes of Paras along every seaside port. Unknown to them all is the presence of a new, hybrid alpha living in their midsts and watching their every move.
Doctor Selene Munroe is heading to a new facility in the Bahamas to continue large-scale development of the bioweapon when she learns of a potential method for eliminating the alphas, leading General Dorr to consider crossing a line that he never imagined possible.
With Nick's powers increasing daily and exceeding Roland's, the ambitious, young super-alpha lays out his plans to strike a devastating blow against the humans that could alter the course of the war and forever change the future of mankind.
It was a fine continuation of the series. Made me want to go back and check the page count, however? As I read it in a day. Cracked it open in the morning and read for hour or two, ran around all day long, resumed reading at 11pm, completed just now at 2am. I’m definitely a big reader and read multiple books per week, but I’m not a speed reader by any means. Anyway - this episode seems more like one long chapter than an actual book within a series. It is also one note. Just a brooding, melancholy overtone. Throughout ... the .... entire ... story ..... line ...... *yawn*. I suppose that’s ok for some types of books, or even genres, but here, it seems like we all mostly show up for one main reason - escapism. Action. Excitement. FUN. Of course there’s room for the emotions expressed/experienced here, but perhaps in small doses. Or widely split up. For sure this book in the series was more along the lines of “depressing psychological apocalypse” than “military zombie apocalypse” in nature. This IS a fantastic series. I’ve been devouring each story, so I guess I was expecting more from this newest release. Here’s to looking forward to the next leg of the journey ...... may it be a long one!
Roland finds out first hand the true nature of betrayal, but Nick becomes more powerful and blood thirsty than before. He wants a world free of humans, and battles are taken to the human refuges. A wonderful reunion and survival of ones he loves, makes Will more determined than ever to stop the alphas! Will his new power help or will he put others at risk? I love this series and it continues to get more exciting with each book. Humanity can be lost to monsters, but humans must not become their own enemy at this time. I look forward to the next adventure! An awesome read!
This is of the best apocalyptic series I have read. The story is thrilling and keeps you on the tip of your chair the hole time. The only complaint I can make is that I have read everything and want more……. It`s fast changing and when you think “ok now they have solved all the problems” it turns in the opposite direction and keeps you up all night reading more. A must-read series. I also have read all the other series JT has released and I must say I recommend all of them.
I'm still enjoying these books. I'm not sure if it's because I have blown through reading all the books back to back. But I feel like it's getting repetitious and I find myself wanting to be at the end to see how it all played out. I also feel like this story line has been told to a certain degree in the previous books. I almost want the story to be over. Having said that. I'm on to the next book.
