Max is a certified, grade-A screw up. And this unexpected baby is his only chance to recover who he used to be.
He was the kid everyone wanted to be. Fun, cute, popular, good grades. But it was all a facade. Desperate for his parents approval, he started with Adderall. Then coke. Then more.
The only thing that snaps him out of his self-destruction is the discovery that he’s pregnant. He’s desperate to do something right in his life, for once, if he hasn’t already lost his chance.
Darius knows three things for certain: 1. he was born to be a tattoo artist, 2. once an addict, always an addict, and 3. if someone was given the choice between him and anything else?
He’ll always get left behind.
But he’s a sucker for lost souls. He’s been one his entire life. And his business partner’s younger brother Max is nothing if not a lost soul. Darius is drawn to help the young omega, but he’s wary of Max’s past with drugs…
One baby may be the key to heal these two men’s hearts, and maybe, just maybe, open the door to love.
Poisoned is the second in a contemporary mpreg trilogy of three men with broken pasts who became brothers, thanks to the only man who gave them a chance. It can be read as a standalone. Trigger warning for drug use. Warning! This book contains adult situations, with adults doing adult-only things, so 18+ readers only! Guaranteed HEA.
Every time I read a Crista Crown book I'm blown away by her range of ability to write within the Mpreg genre. There is something special about the Greaves Brothers. I waited impatiently for the release of the Second book in the series. It was great to revisit the pevious characters especially the brave young boy saw his new Daddy as his Superhero. If you haven't already read BEASTLY, the first book in the Greaves Brothers series you really need to.
In this book the horrors of drug addiction in all its ugliness are dealt with. It doesn't just poison the system of the addict, but as our opiod epidemic has shown it poisons the family, the community, and medical field. No family is exempt neither the poorest or the richest amongst us. Police, EMTs, and many others are receiving NARCAN training to hopefully save the life of someone's loved one.
But what if there were those who didn't believe the addict's life was worth saving - including the addict, yet miracles do occur and people are able to pull themselves out of their dire circumstances with the right motivations & support systems. Are their those who believe tha none of this is even a remote possibility? Yes but some people need to reach rock bottom doing terrible things to family, friends, and themselves before something so wonderful and precious like an unexpected pregnancy, shakes them up in such a profound way like nothing ever has.
Giving them the strength to try. To ask for help. To reject the cloying pull. relief, forgetfulness. and euphoria of the drugs. To face the shame and sorrow of previous relapses & beg for one more chance. In face of doubt, derision, anger, disbelief, and a belief that you will fail again, as well as hurt & disappoint those around you yet again. Something that other people who had been through the lies & manipulations of an unrepentent addict, who came out angry and still feeling so raw from the horrible experience they find it impossible to believe such an 180 degree miracle is possible.
This sets the table for a compelling very emotional story. How could love be possible in this toxic environment? It takes a lot of tears, fears, strength, distrust, shoulders to lean on, and a place of Refuge. Learning and feeling deserving again which is a lot harder than it sounds. especially when you feel the derision and doubt of those most important to you.
I can't tell you how moving this story is. It is worth rereading in the future based on how much I loved it. I am looking forward to the story of the Third Greaves brother.
Here & now I am beginning a petition for a fourth book that features the Greaves brothers wonderful Father.
😊 I received this book by the author and this is my honest opinion. I enjoyed this book, this is my first book I've read in this series so you don't have to read book one to grasp what's going on in this book though I will be looking up the previous book. This is about max, a drug addict trying to get his life back on track especially since he's pregnant. Darius is a tattoo artist and has issues with drugs, considering his biological parents were addicts. He doesn't trust them as far as he can throw them and max is no different. Though this was about an addict and coming clean id say it's a more pg rated tale of detoxing as most of all that is off page. What we do get is all the emotional upheaval on the whys and of course terror for his unborn child plus all the inadequacies he felt and why it led him to feel compelled to use. I wasn't sure I liked Darius at first especially when he made max cry, as he was projecting all his old anger to the wrong person, but you do see his perspective change. This had me in a jumble of mixture between wanting to cuddle the characters, to wanting to slap certain ones, these were great characters and portrayed well and I came away feeling happy with how it ended and all warm hearted. A good read.
Poisoned, by Crista Crown is riveting story of addiction, pregnancy, and recovery. It's a great enemies to lovers romance.
Max is the family screw up, an addict, who's trying to get clean since finding out he's pregnant. His brother helps him and gives him a job, setting off a strong attraction between him and Darius. As attracted as Darius is, he hesitates, as he struggles with first hand knowledge of addiction and doesn't trust the omega.
The attraction is intense and the tension is off the charts. In other words, you can feel it jumping off the pages.
It's a story of two people changing for the better. It's a story of hope, of desire to change and of recovery. It's a story of strength and support. It's a story of anger and forgiveness.
This is another great example of mpreg books being about so much more than the sex or pregnancy. If you don't read them, just take a chance and try one. Some of the stories and romances, as well as the struggles, are superb.
With Poisoned, Crista Crown has created a wonderful story of overcoming drugs and addiction. It's a beautiful slow burn romance, that is wonderfully developed.
A charming, fulfilling, quick read. The main characters deal with their nightmarish pasts in straight forward and consistent adult behaviors. I love how their relationship blooms through daily interactions and they discover trust as they leave their preconceptions behind. The plot feels natural and flows quickly as the characters are drawn together. Crista beautifully uses descriptions of tattoos and their design intricacies to bring out analogies of the life struggles, humanity and personal growth; the design choices she integrates are poignant and sharp to give a clear indication of the mindset and future we can expect in reading. I enjoyed getting an HEA with the right amount of angst to keep me engaged and moving quickly through the book. I will definitely keep reading this series and pick up others from her.
Poisoned by Crista Crown is an Mpreg Romance and the second book in The Greaves Brothers series. Max is an addict, sworn to recover after discovering his pregnancy. Darius is his brother's friend and co-worker with a prejudice against addicts caused by his addict birth parents. As time goes on though, Darius starts to realize that maybe some addicts can recover and redeem tgemselves... and possibly be the best thing in his life.
Darius and Max are great... I loved the evolution from sort of enemies, to friends to love. Their interactions were cute and I wanted them to find their Happily ever after. The supporting characters were fun, too. I like this series and cant wait for next book.
I received an advanced reader's copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review and recommendation.
This is a book that managed to be really sweet despite dealing with the aftermath of a drug addiction. Max is determined to get clean for the sake of his baby. Darius has had very negative, first hand experience of addicts and is very much of the opinion that once somebody starts on that road they will always relapse. When he starts working with Max he refuses to give him a chance but begins to see that not every addict is the same. This was quite a slow burn romance and really focuses on the evolving relationship from enemies to friends and eventually to lovers. I loved the fact that the author took her time developing the relationship because it led to it being much more believable development of both characters and the relationship itself.
Poisened is a book about a man that is an addict getting clean after he realizes he has become pregnant and a man with a prejudice and distrust of addicts. The story was pretty realistic in its protrail of an addicts struggle and how it effects and shapes those hurt by them, but it was focused mainly on the love growing between the two main characters. It was the story of two people learning to heal the hurts within themselves together and how it grows into love between the two. I really enjoyed it except for several grammatical errors which didn't take too much away from the story and the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series!
I did enjoy this book. It was a nice pick me up. The characters,Max and Darius were enjoyable. The plot was a bit light and it was pretty much a straight shot with no real twists and turns. The only problem was Max’s parents and it was resolved quickly.
If you want something to tide you over or something to read on your lunch, definitely try this book.
As a bonus, you don’t really need to read book 1, but characters from book 1 do feature in this one.
This would have got a 4* if it wasn't for the atrocious editing job. Reading sentences that are like two thoughts as one () is annoying. And reading the wrong name in a sex scene is truly off putting. Might I recommend someone who is reasonably priced and an excellent editor for any future books. https://aylaedits.wordpress.com/
I'm always hit or miss with whether or not I'll like an omegaverse story. This one is in the middle. Tropey storyline and some editmg mistakes didn't help. Addicted omega finds out he's pregnant and reaches out to his brother for help. Brother's business partner, tattoo artists, falls for the omega after first rejecting him.
KU, book in series, standalone, omegaverse, tattoos, mpreg, themes of drug abuse and emotional abuse, artist
Great read by Crista. As usual great character development. The book shows never give up on someone. Drugs can easily ruin someone's life and with he!p and love give them the hand that they need.Parents can send people down the wrong road but with help from friends change their life.

This was an amazing addition to the series, but it also was an amazing book by itself. The characters had depth, they had real struggles, and the writing was captivating. This is probably one of the best books that I've read in a long time.
I am so glad that max finally got his happily ever after. I am glad also that darius finally have in and have max a chance. He was so hurt about his own upbringing that he could not see what was in front of his own face.
Max is a heroin addict with a difficult choice. When he finds out he is pregnant, he has to decide if he is ready to finally get clean. After calling on the help of his brother Arnie, he tries to get back on his feet. Darius co-runs a tattoo shop with his best friend, Arnie. But when Arnie brings his addict brother, Max into the shop to work and to get clean, he is concerned. Having dealt with his own horrors of addiction, his is untrustworthy when it comes to Max. This book is about what happens when two men try to fight their own poisons. I thought this story was very sweet, and while Mpreg has never been my thing, I really enjoyed this book. This book dealt with some pretty heavy issues. Drug abuse and getting clean is heavy subject matter and Crista has done a great job of making that aspect realistic. I guess you couldn’t exactly categorize this as hate-to-love, but it’s definitely a slow burn. I loved Darius! While he is very stand-off-ish about Max’s presence at first, he does a great job to come around to him and to understand him. I look forward to reading more from Crista Crown.
