“You cannot separate the dirty air from the wings which beat upon it…” Birds are dying in Joe's home town. Far too many birds. But how does this relate to a mysterious investment website located in Tokyo? And what of a misanthropic social-worker, a prisoner in an unspecified compound and two young boys, living in a twilight land of talking spiders and magical plants... Midnight In Hell is novel masquerading as sort story collection, and short stories hiding inside a novel. Allow Malone to take you on an unsettling journey, as he juxtaposes the deep web with cannibalism, the mundane with the absurd, and genre fiction with literary experimentation.

Recommended to me by my sister about a year ago, I subsequently read a five star review in ‘Scream,’ a magazine which couldn’t be further from her taste. This got me curious, exactly what kind of book is this? The answer, one of the most unique I things ever read.
I don't know if i could honestly say that this was the book of the year, but boy, it's definitely the most experimental: shorts stories that link, intersect, overlap and then completely fold in on themselves. I guess this is a so-called ergodic literature. Ostensibly a horror novel, but not…
If John Darnielle’s excellent “Universal Harvester” was about the the horror of time this is about the horror of data. Something well worth considering at a time when Dominic Cummings is using data analytics to undermine an entire democracy. But if this is a so called "Brexit Novel" novel, it’s it's most oblique one ever written.
