No real spoilers here. Generally I enjoyed the books but I'm done at three. I'm not a literary critic, just a fan of sci-fi, so take what I write knowing the source.
I wanted more from the books. What really feels lacking is the character development. The overall story arc is interesting, the premise is fine, but I never get to care about most of the characters in the story. There are lots of potentially interesting people who I don't know much about and I'm not invested in their involvement. I have names in my head, but I don't know what they look like or anything deep. I want so much more but the story feels like it races along to get to the battles, which could also use more details.
Am I glad I read it - yeah. I was hoping the writing would improve as the books continued, but they were consistent.
I really enjoyed this series. Conner is the leader of Ghost Patrol, a secret army group. After a mission goes wrong he & his team are smuggled onto The Ark after being drugged. Two hundred years later he is woken up & so the adventure begins. I would love to participate in something like The Ark, having read my first sci-fi at 10 years old I've been totally hooked. This series had me gripped from the start.
This series has kept me booked from page one. Whilst providing an excellent story line the author has not let his imagination run away with him, which so often spoils a good story. I am expecting good things from book four and am really looking forward to week now the characters lives turn out
This series, the first three, make one story, and it's a good blend between land warfare and spaceship fighting. There is all the normal interperson interactions and good narrative. If the purpose of a review is to let others know if it's worth buying, then, yes, it's worth it.
Not my sort of sci fi, read it because first 3 books free set. Found all the hardware and heroics deeply boring but would quite like to know what happens next but won't as prob more of the same. Well imagined and quite well written if you like that sort of thing.
Really enjoyed this 3 book set. Well written, nicely paced and characters I warmed to. Nothing groundbreaking, story-wise, but an entertaining and enjoyable read. Definitely kept me hooked!
While I enjoyed the story, this book needed a good editor
Throughout the book (a trilogy/omnibus) there were numerous inconsistencies and contradictions, stuff that any good editor would have caught and had the author fix. There were a few weak storytelling tropes and errors made (you can see some brought up in my Notes I left in the book that I left as Public). I might come back to this series at another time, but I'm done with it for the foreseeable future.
