His witness for Christ roused anger among those intent on silencing him for good. But his witness could not be stopped, as his martyrdom caused the gospel to be pushed outside the walls of Jerusalem.
A picture book biography of 1st century Christian martyr, Stephen.
This was an ok picture book biography of Stephen, but it is most definitely aimed at soley a Christian reader. The way they have Stephen say some things or they relate some things is rather blunt and seems to emphasize truth over grace. It also makes it appear as if Stephen wasn't himself a Jew, which is not the case. And some parents will want to know the stoning is partially portrayed in the illustrations with some blood shown. This was just awkwardly done.
In this children’s book, the story of the first martyr in the Christian tradition is told. Stephen, a faithful witness of Christ, is used powerfully by the Holy Spirit to witness to the Jews. The Jews aren’t happy about him, and they decide to take care of him permanently. But to live is Christ and to die is gain, and the church being dispersed only fuels the fire. A great book with impactful illustrations, this is a good way to introduce to children the stories of the faith.
