Though he is known as “Doubting Thomas,” this apostle became so convinced of the resurrection of Jesus Christ that he took the gospel to India, where he died as a martyr at the hands of Hindu priests.
A picture book biography of Jesus' disciple and Christian apostle Thomas, who tradition says was the first missionary to India.
This was definitely written with solely a Christian reader in mind. It doesn't talk about the Indian's beliefs before becoming Christians very tactfully. Some parents may want to know it also talks about Thomas being killed. I did appreciate that the book clarified what is known for sure about Thomas and what is thought to be true, but not 100% known. This was ok but I feel like it could have been done better.
I like this series. The illustrations are bright and engaging, the stories simple, but meaningful. There are occasionally doctrinal differences from my own beliefs, but they make for good talking points, and what we share is much more than what we don't.
This is a wonderful children’s book depicting the disciple Thomas and his story. From being willing to go and die with Jesus to doubting that his Lord had risen and beyond, this book, with beautiful illustrations, is an excellent resource for children. If you’re wanting to share the stories of the martyrs with some young friends, this is one you will find useful. I highly enjoyed seeing Thomas’s story in a new way, and I think others will too.
