Deadly Ride by Jody Holford is the third book in Britton Bay cozy mystery series and was another entertaining read.
Sam, Molly's boyfriend, is hosting a Classic Car Crawl in Britton Bay. Molly's representing the newspaper as a journalist as they are short staffed. Everything goes well on the first day until that night they find the body of one of the original founders of this car tour dead. The plot is quickly paced, there are only a few suspects and the clues and red herrings kept me completely in the dark until the reveal. Ms. Holford's descriptive writing makes me feel right at home in Britton Bay; and I've enjoyed getting to know all of the characters who are now friends and co-workers of Molly. Molly and Sam's relationship did take up more of the story than it had in previous books but did not detract from the mystery itself.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Lyrical Underground via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.
I can't get over how much I love this book! This was already one of my favourite cozy mystery series, but this installment has made me love it even more. I love how Molly is settling into her new home of Britton Bay and becoming part of the town. I particularly enjoyed her relationship with her boyfriend, Sam, and her connections with her new friends. Add to that an intriguing mystery and this book has everything I could want in a cozy. I can't wait to read more books in this series!

Cozy Mystery | Third Book in the Series
Deadly Ride is the third book in the Britton Bay mystery series. For greatest enjoyment, I highly recommend reading the series in order of publication. While each book does have it's own mystery, the characters evolve through each book and a budding romance blossoms as well. Not only that, this is an awesome series and those who enjoy cozy mysteries will easily become entrapped in the stories.
That being said, I enjoyed this book. I think the first two books were a bit better but I still sailed through this one and enjoyed figuring out "who-dun-it" with Molly. One of the main reasons this may not have been my favorite of the series is because the story revolves around a car show and a murder that takes place at it. The victim, while very unlikable, didn't get as much recognition in the story either. I feel like I wasn't able to get a good picture of him other than seeing he was a chauvinistic pig! Also, cars are not really my thing so I wasn't completely interested in the plot line.
Regardless of the things I didn't care for within this book I am really glad Jody is continuing on in the series. It's one of my favorites and I look forward to many more (hopefully) in the future!
Deadly Ride is the 3rd instalment in the Britton Bay Mystery series by Jody Holford. I found it to be as enjoyable and entertaining as the previous two. I was happy to be transported back to Britton Bay on the Oregon coast and read in one sitting.

Jody is very good at writing a complete story in this case the mystery as well as the romance between Sam and Molly. The main set of characters were just as fabulous as in the previous books, we learned more about Sarah, Chris, and were introduced to another homeless person which I have a feeling will tie into the next instalment.
The mystery was well written and had plenty of suspects who wanted the victim dead. I did suspect the killer early on but there were a few red herrings so I wasnt 100% sure until close to the end when the final piece fell into place.
I highly recommend this cozy mystery series to all my friends who love a cozy with romance thrown in.

I'm a little surprised at how quickly this has become a favorite series for me. It is more a hybrid between a cozy mystery and romance (at least in my opinion) because the romance and mysteries are both prominent in each story. I like Molly's character and it felt like she is becoming more comfortable and settled in this book. She has surrounded herself with a really good set of friends and her romance with Sam is progressing well. She is a bit impetuous and that can get her into some serious situations some times. I like how Sam recognizes that she gets herself into these situations because she has a really good heart. He doesn't want to change her, he just wants her to recognize that she has a lot of people who care for her and worry about her. The mystery was well done. There were plenty of suspects to choose from and I thought the author did a good job of giving them each a plausible motive for murder. While the killer was not a total surprise, this person also wasn't at the top of my list either. I really enjoyed this book and have enjoyed the series to date.

Review:
The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and through much of the book I felt like I was right there in Britton Bay, watching all the action taking place and listening in on conversations.
The mystery was well plotted and carried on well throughout the book. There were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider and I was surprised at who the culprit turned out to be.
The characters are well rounded and well developed. I enjoyed getting to spend time with Molly and her family and friends. Molly is a good reporter and she loves to look for clues and solve mysteries. But she is getting tired of having to find a killer, there are just too many murders in Britton Bay.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. This whole series is really good and well worth reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!
I have read the first book in this series, and although I have missed book two it was easy to pick up and remember the characters. It helped that Molly and Sam were such easy, flowing kind of characters; together on scene they were better than apart (probably the romance build up was equally as good as the mystery) It also helped that this book's 'theme' was cars/a car show, something that dut my own partner's strong interest, I now have plenty of knowledge on myself.
As I've said, the romance is really building into a solid one. Molly was a bit more unsure in the first book, but things are settling and I like reading about her and Sam. She's really established herself in the community and has plenty of friends as well, and there is a cute side mystery as well as the murder mystery.
I like the left field approach to the killer as well, you might not guess who it actually is for a long time. Too many characters change their story or act against how they were first portrayed for you to be sure of anything, so when you finally get your ending it is a surprise.
This is a charming continuation to a really good mystery series, and you can start with this one or go back and start Molly's story with book one. Four stars.
Another very sweet installment in one of my favorite new cozy mystery series! I love how Molly and Sam are growing closer in each book, but it doesn't take anything away from the mystery to hear about their romance. I can definitely handle this type of romance along with my cozy mysteries.
I had a feeling of whodunit, but as usual, I had no idea why other than an obvious reason, which all of the suspects had obvious reasons for wanting the car show co-owner dead. Molly has always been very impulsive and doesn't do well listening to authority, so it's a good thing that Chris the detective is also a friend of Sam's. I think that gives him a higher tolerance of her. Chris did give her a cute birthday gift at the end. I enjoyed the part where Sam went with Molly to stake out Sarah's art shop. She'd been having some break-ins, but barely anything had gone missing. Sam was so sweet to tag along and not ask a million questions. I'm hoping that before too long we get to hear some wedding bells for these two sleuths!
Deadly Ride is the 3rd book in the Britton Bay Mystery series by Jody Holford. I found it to be more enjoyable than the last with a bit more sleuthing, more suspects and a few more twists. I enjoyed this visit to Britton Bay on the Oregon coast and meeting up with Molly and her friends and co-workers once again. As editor-in-chief of the Britton Bay Bulletin, Molly steps in for a sick reporter to cover the Classic Car Crawl. Her boyfriend and owner of the auto shop that sponsored the crawl is a huge classic car enthusiast. He introduces her to many of the exhibitors, including the co-founder of the crawl. Most are nice guys, but someone was not happy with something and Molly and Sam discover the co-founder dead in his car. Molly quickly shifts gears to solve the murder as Sam is one of the suspects.
I enjoyed this story with not only it's mystery, but getting to know some of the secondary characters better. Sam continues to worry about Molly putting herself in danger and she begins to understand that there are others who care about her and that she needs to ask for help. The mystery was well done, with plenty of suspects to choose from. The author did a good job developing motives for each suspect so that even though the culprit was on my radar, I wasn't sure who the murderer was until the final reveal. I enjoyed the descriptive writing and I felt like I was right there in Britton Bay, watching all the action taking place and listening in on conversations. I would love to visit this seaside town and meat these characters. This is a cozy mystery series that takes us into the life of it's characters. It has romance, friendship, new beginnings along with the mystery. With my added enjoyment in this third book, I will continue with this series and look forward to book #4. Once again, Libby McKnight narrated the audiobook and did a nice job with this story.
Deadly Ride is the third book in the Britton Bay series by Jody Holford. I wouldn't recommend reading the book as stand-alone because the protagonist is the same one as the previous books and it would be weird to some to just dive into the middle of the story. The mystery is a brand new one though.
I binged read the series and I gotta say, that while I enjoy each book, I feel like something is missing. There is not enough focus on the mystery and not enough focus on Molly and Sam's relationship, so I feel like I am somewhere in the middle wanting both aspects to be explored. At least Molly and Sam had some good progress.
Deadly Ride is the first book to feature an epilogue and it makes me wonder if we are going to see more of Molly, Sam and her beloved dog.
Overall, I found the book enjoyable and very easy to read! It was perfect for a relaxing afternoon and I would recommend it to the fans of the genre!
I'm really glad I found this series. It has just the right amount of romance with plenty of mystery.
Molly's profession of being a newspaper editor gives her the advantage of being able to interview so many suspects under the ruse of writing an article or fact-checking. Her romance with Sam keeps things interesting in that he keeps trying to keep her safe, very lovingly, and she keeps finding ways to get into trouble. Sam is the perfect knight in shining armor.
As with most cozy mysteries, you can read this as a standalone but it is much better if you read in order.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
There is more Romance than I like to see in the books I read, otherwise it is a good and fast read. The 3rd book of the Britton Bay series Molly Owens' boyfriend, Sam Alderich' Auto shop is sponsoring a Vintage Antique Auto Show. Molly is covering the event for the paper. Molly and Sam discover one of the partners dead in his car. Molly decides she must investigate the death through Sam and the sheriff deputy warn her to stay out the the affair. I highly recommend this book and series.
Disclosure: Thanks to Lyrical Underground for a copy through NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
Deadly Ride is the third book in Jody Holford’s Britton Bay Mystery series. Jody does a really good job of writing the story so that new readers to this series can just jump right in. I have to admit that this is one of my favorite series because Jody combines cozy mystery and contemporary romance together perfectly. Unlike other cozy mystery authors, Jody doesn't try to hide or downplay the romance. She puts it front and center. But don't worry, the romance is sweet and closed door.
In Deadly Ride, Molly's boyfriend Sam is excited to host and sponsor the Classic Car Crawl. The event will bring tourists and revenue to Britton Bay, Oregon. It will also allow Sam the opportunity to share his love of classic cars with Molly and spend time with Jethro “Jet” Harkaw and Brian Stoley; his idols and the founders of the Classic Car Crawl. Off the bat, things start to go downhill fast. Jet turns out to be a womanizer and an all-around bad apple. Still, to everyone’s shock, Molly and Sam find his dead body.
While working as the editor for the Britton Bay Bulletin, Molly discovers several people who had a reason to want Jet dead. The question becomes who. Molly knows she should leave the murder investigation up to the police but is it really her fault when the murderer comes looking for her?
By far, Deadly Ride is my favorite book of the series so far. Jody had my heart sighing at the romance and pounding as Molly found herself in a life or death situation. The mystery was beyond good and it took until the big reveal for me to figure it out along with Molly. I’m really happy there are more books to come in this series and I look forward to reading them.

Deadly Ride by Jody Holford is the 3rd book in A Britton Bay Mystery, and another great addition. Molly Owens is the editor in chief at the local newspaper, located on the seaside coast of Oregon. Molly is renting a small carriage home on the property of the bed and breakfast her boyfriend, Sam Alderich, mother owns. Sam's auto body shop is sponsoring a vintage car show, which Molly is covering for the paper. When one of the co-founders is found dead, Molly is determined to solve the murder, and save the show. There are suspects around every corner. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love cozy mysteries, I recommend this book and the series.
I reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Publishing. Thank you.
This is the first book by Jody Holford that I have read. This book is the third book in the Britton Bay Series about Molly Owens, editor of the Britton Bay Bulletin a weekly newspaper. I haven't read the first two books of the series, but there is enough background and past references that you don't feel you are missing a lot if you just jumped in.
Molly's boyfriend Sam (who owns the local car repair shop) is the local host of a traveling classic car show. Molly interviews the two organizers of the show, Jet Harkaw and Brian Stoleman. The reader is shown right away that Jet Harkaw is not a nice person and no one should be surprised that he winds up dead at the show. The suspects are numerous and include an ex-wife, widow, the lover of the widow and other car owners.
This book was enjoyable because of the side characters that populate the small town. Their interaction with Molly (who is a relative newcomer) is fun to read. Also, the relationship between Molly and Sam is also a high point.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books (Lyrical Underground) for this ARC.
This was an enjoyable read. This is the third book in the Britton Bay series. In this book, Sam, Molly’s boyfriend is hosting a Classic Car Crawl in Britton Bay, and Molly is covering the story as a journalist because they are short staffed. When one of the founders of the Classic Car Show is found dead, the investigation of “who-dun-it” begins. I thought this story was great. It was fast-paced and I thought it was great to see more of her relationship with Sam in this book. It made the book more interesting as the story continued. The characters were great. Our heroine, Molly has grown and I thought she was smart, witty, and fun. She has grown on me as the series continued. I cannot wait to her growth in book 4. I am wondering how book four will turn out. I cannot wait. Deadly Drama, here we come. Overall, a great read.
Author Jody Holford does a good job of weaving twists and turns into the storyline to keep the reader guessing and searching for clues in Deadly Ride. Molly’s character is likable and realistic. The descriptions of the scenery are done well and paint a picture of the atmosphere to engage the reader. I would love to live in a quaint town like Britton Bay. There is just enough romance as not to be too sappy but still an interesting aspect of the story.
Deadly Ride can be read as a standalone book as I didn’t feel I missed anything by not reading the first two. It's a good story with a solid mystery and interesting characters.
This is a fun cozy mystery with a nice coastal setting and enjoyable characters. The mystery aspect is great, but there is more romance than I care for so I knocked off a star
Molly Owens is the editor-in-chief of small-town newspaper Britton Bay Bulletin and in a relationship with Sam Alderich, who owns his own garage and is sponsoring a classic car show that's been held in other cities, but never Britton Bay. He's excited to meet his two idols, who are co-founders of the event - Jet and Brian. But when he and Molly do meet them, Jet, a man in his seventies, is making passes at Molly...and they find out that not only does he have an ex-wife who's there but his current wife is only 24 and she's there, also.
It's also pretty evident that Jet doesn't care who he sleeps with, but all Molly wants to do is avoid him. When Sam is checking to see that everything is locked up for the evening one night, he finds Jet sitting in his car. It's not long before he discovers the man dead. Molly also discovers that there's plenty of suspects from the ex- and current wife, to fellow car enthusiasts and a nosy reporter that's come on the scene. Every one of them had motive. But which one killed him? When Molly gets too close to the truth, she'd better watch herself or Jet will have company...
This is the third book in the series and I liked it as much as the other two. The plot was interesting, and I liked the fact that none of Molly's friends were suspected of murder. What a nice change - I also like the fact that Sam owns a garage and he isn't the usual police officer or attorney. This time out, Molly's main reporter is out ill so she's taking a turn interviewing the drivers, and what she hears (or overhears) leaves her with questions when Jet is killed.
But of course, Sam's friend, police deputy Chris Beatty, is taking the lead on the investigation and even though he tells Molly to leave it alone, neither he nor Sam believes she will. And they're right. There's red herrings thrown about, but not as many as you think, and it seems that no one has an alibi, since everyone is alibiing each other in one way or another.
There's also the subplot of how Molly's relationship with Sam is growing. After being hurt by her last boyfriend, she doesn't want to let Sam know how much she cares, but watching them figure it out is a pleasant diversion. I'm not big on romance novels but I love the fact that there's romance attached to the mystery, but it's never confused with it. By that I mean the murder never takes second place to the romance, and that's how it's supposed to be.
I also liked the fact that we were given some background on a couple of minor characters which Ms. Holford has managed to do in each of her books; bringing us into the lives of everyone who surrounds Molly. It's what a true cozy should be - when you enter the town, you learn a little more about each resident as time goes on. It made for an enjoyable read.
When the murderer was discovered, it wasn't much of a surprise, but then it's more about the journey to find the truth in mysteries, anyway. And this was a very good journey indeed. I look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommended.
I was given a free copy through NetGalley but this in no way influenced my review.

Review:
In Deadly Ride, the third book in the entertaining Britton Bay mystery series, newspaper editor Molly once again puts on her investigative reporter’s cap to solve a murder. Heavy on the romance with likable characters and a cozy coastal setting, it is light, diverting reading.
Britton Bay is abuzz with excitement for the Classic Car Crawl sponsored by Molly’s boyfriend Sam’s auto shop. When one of her reporters falls ill, Molly steps in to cover the show. Unfortunately, the celebration is dampened when one of the Crawl’s co-owners is found dead in one of the classic cars. Odious as Jet was in life, no one deserves his end so Molly cannot help but try to uncover the killer’s identity.
There are plenty of suspects to consider, and author Holford does a good job giving everyone a plausible motive. The suspects are varied and include the Crawl’s other co-founder and best friend, the recently discarded ex-wife, the much younger new wife, another journalist, and more than one of the fellow car owners. Clues and red herrings abound and kept me guessing until the end. I did suspect the killer’s identity only to dismiss him/her so I was surprised at how it all unfolded. The mystery is quite interesting, and the classic car tidbits fun, but I did have a hard time feeling bad for Jet. He is so, so unsavory.
As much as I enjoy the recurring characters (I adore Sam’s mother) and the mystery, the story relies heavily on the progressing romance between Molly and Sam, and it is a bit too much for my taste. So many mentions of the couple holding hands, gazing at each other, etc. made my eyes glaze after a while.
Overall, Deadly Ride is a fun, cozy mystery.
*OBS would like to thank the author for supplying a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review*
This is the third book in this enjoyable cozy series and can be read as a stand alone. If you like romance in equal parts with your mystery then this may be just the series for you. Molly and Sam are building their relationship along with the occasional murder to investigate. Molly is the editor in chief of the Britton Bay Bulletin, the local paper in Britton Bay, Oregon. It's a small coastal town I would love to spend time in but maybe not when a murder occurs. Her boyfriend, sam, owns an auto body shop and is hosting a traveling classic car event. the cars are great but along with the cars comes a group of people who have a whole lot of issues and it boils over into the murder of one of the owners of the classic car collection. It's no surprise that he gets bumped off, he's a nasty lecherous piece of work. He's a senior citizen with an ex-wife and his current wife is only old enough to be his very young daughter. Molly crosses paths with him because the reporter assigned to the event gets sick and Molly takes over the interviews. when she encounters the soon to be corpse, he gives her the creeps when he can't keep his hands to himself and his comments are very inappropriate. Sam is the one to find the body, dead in one of the cars. His best friend is the one who investigates the case and they both know that, no matter how much they ask Molly to stay clear of the case, it will have no effect. Molly is a reporter and reporters ask questions and investigate stories. The list of suspects will keep her very busy and hopefully not make her the focus of a killer who may just want her silenced. I enjoyed the cast of local characters and the setting. The mystery was well crafted and had enough twists and turns to keep me wondering if I was going to pick the killer out of the list. Each book in the series gets better than the previous entry and I was a fan from the first book. No slump in writing for this series. It's a nice blend of romance and homicide and I'll be looking forward to reading the next book in the series. My thanks to the publisher Lyrical Press and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Deadly Ride is the third installment in the Britton Bay series set in Britton Bay, Oregon featuring Molly Owens, newspaper editor for the Britton Bay Bulletin. Sam Alderich, an avid car enthusiast and Molly's boyfriend, has arranged for the Classic Car Crawl to come to town. A traveling showcase of vintage automobiles organized by founders Jethro Harkaw and Brian Stoleman is going to bring one last burst of tourists to town before winter sets in, and Molly is going to cover the festival for the paper.
Her first meeting with Jethro has Molly's skin crawling. The man's roving eyes, touchy hands and inappropriate comments are a huge turn off not only for Molly but for Sam too. Unfortunately as the festival continues, his behavior only get worse as Molly witnesses him sizing up other women, making out with his current wife Amber, ex wife Candy and arguing with several car owners. It's really no surprise when Molly and Sam discover his bludgeoned body sitting in his car.
Molly's former investigative reporter instincts kick in and she finds herself drawn into the thick of the case despite warnings from Officer Chris Beatty to stay out of his investigation. With plenty of suspects to choose from, Molly is in for a busy few days.
A good plot and a returning cast of characters make for a fun read. Unfortunately, the constant and repetitive mention of Molly and Sam holding hands, hugging, kissing, running fingers through each other's hair and gazing longingly at each other had me groaning in frustration and skipping paragraphs at a time. While I do understand that their relationship is relatively new - this was a bit much. Now that the two have finally said I love you, I hope that the author will focus more on the actual mystery in any upcoming additions.
I received an advanced copy of Deadly Ride from NetGalley via Lyrical Press. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
(I received a copy of Deadly Ride from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.)
It’s been over twelve months since I stumbled on the first book in the Britton Bay mystery series and I truly look forward to returning the characters and locations in these books.
Molly Owens, once a newcomer to Britton Bay, has settled into her life as a small town newspaper editor – she’s met and befriended the locals, found herself a charming boyfriend, a puppy she adores… and occasionally gets caught up in the occasional murder mystery that strikes the town. In the third instalment, she’s supporting her boyfriend, Sam, as he helps to host a classic car convention in town. It’s all going smoothly until one of the co-founders of the convention is found dead and the mystery begins.
I love Molly as a character – she’s calm and collected, while still being strong-willed enough to not back down when trying to uncover the mystery surrounding the murder in this story. This causes her to constantly clash with the local police force, including one of Sam’s best friends, but that only serves to highlight how much Molly has grown since the first book as much of the concern comes from other characters genuinely being concerned for her.
Molly and Sam have such a sweet relationship that every moment they were on the page together was just wonderful to read. Add to that the healthy relationship Molly has with his mother and you just enjoy being with all of these characters who care about one another.
The mystery was fun, with some twists and turns to keep you wondering whodunit up until the end. And while I’m not much of a car fanatic, even those parts of the story were interesting because we’re seeing it all through Molly’s eyes as she’s learning about the cars, too.
Overall, this was just a delightful read to while away a few hours. It certainly lives up to it’s ‘cozy’ mystery status.
What a ride! Part cozy mystery, part romance novel, Jody Holford’s Deadly Ride, is an enjoyable excursion to the seaside town of Britton Bay and the charming characters living there. In this third installment of the series, newspaper editor Molly Owen’s finds murder and mystery while covering a classic car show hosted by her boyfriend, Sam.
When Jethro Harkaw, one of the founding members of the show, is found dead in his car, the focus quickly turns from the show itself to murder. As it turns out, Jethro was an unpleasant man whom many had a reason to dislike. Suspects – including his business partner, his wife, his ex-wife and several car enthusiasts – abound, each of which had ample motive for murder. Molly must use her reporter’s instincts to investigate the crime and keep herself out of danger.
Intertwined with the mystery is the evolving relationship between Molly and Sam. Although this book definitely has more romance that I’ve seen in most cozy mysteries, it is easy to root for Molly and Sam. That said, while I appreciate the romantic aspects of the book, Deadly Ride is at its best when focusing on the mystery. The seemingly unending list of suspects, gradual revelations, and twists and turns kept me guessing until the end. And, while the ultimate reveal seemed a little too coincidental, the result was nonetheless satisfying.
All-in-all, Deadly Ride is a fun and entertaining cozy mystery. And, if you like to mix mystery with romance, it is the perfect book to curl up with on a lazy afternoon.
Note: I received an ARC of Deadly Ride from NetGalley and Kensington Books/Lyrical Underground. The above is my honest review.
Enjoyable cozy, though I wouldn't mind a little less making out and heart-flutters between Molly and her beau Sam.
Sam has arranged for the Classic Car Crawl - a travelling car show - to come to Britton Bay. Molly joins him to interview the two organisers. Two friends who could not be more different. One turns out to be quite a jerk and it is not much of a surprise when he is found dead a few days later. There's plenty of people that may have wanted him dead: his young wife, his ex-wife, his old friend and business partner, a couple of regulars in the car show, an old friend of the young wife.
Though Molly is warned off about getting involved (for her safety) and she herself is determined not got involved, not too involved, Molly can't help herself and starts to poke around. The motives and changing alibis were pretty good, making all the possible suspects look equally suspect.
I was a bit disappointed by the reveal of the actual murderer. It was not Molly's snooping that made it necessary for the murderer to come out of hiding. So no reason either to silence Molly. I guess that one was necessary for the author to put the sleuth in the hot-spot with the murderer. (And if felt forced.)
And can Americans - at least the fictional ones - just get over themselves when it comes to saying "I love you"? It's not so big a deal that you have to weigh your words carefully before you say "I love you" to the person you have spent pretty much every free moment with for the past six months. In that situation the "I love you" has been implied for several months already.
Cool weather, cooler cars, and cold blooded murder is on display in this latest Britton Bay Mystery. Editor Mollie is super excited to be covering the Classic Car Crawl, which her "best boyfriend in the whole world." Sam has sponsored to come to the sea side town of Britton Bay. Sam is beyond excited, and the relationship the two have is beyond cute. The way Mollie talks herself down off ledges and also reassures herself about Sam's intentions is heartfelt and relatable. Unfortunately Sam and Mollie see first-hand that idols are not always so untarnished, like Jet and his philandering ways. Apparently those two aren't the only ones who are rubbed wrong by Jet as he is found dead in the car gallery after the first day of the car show. Who could it be that has stopped his wandering eyes? Was it his ex-wife Candice whom he left for his much younger current wife Amber, what about some of the guys who have their cars on display hoping for a big break and some notoriety, maybe it is someone else altogether. Mollie knows that it can't be someone from Britton Bay but since her lead reporter is out sick she feels she needs to ask the questions that need to be asked. No need to have read the previous stories to be able to know what is going on but you'll want to. Reading about how fierce Mollie is with her job and how guarded she has been with her heart makes her a great character. Her new friends who are now like family add dimension to the story as well and I like how her boyfriend Sam understands that she is who she is, although he would like her to be as safe as she can be. Another great story in another great series!
This is the 3rd book in this wonderful new series by Jody Holford. I have read and enjoyed the entire series. I highly recommend this series for your reading enjoyment. The author has created a charming setting,. great likable charcters and fun mysteries with twist and turns to keep every reader guessing. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own.,
In this next installment we happily return to the charm of Britton Bay on the Oregon coast.. Our favorite protagonist Molly is back enjoying her job as a editor on the local newspaper. She loves her new home town, her job and has a love interest to keep her busy in between solving mysteries.
Molly has agreed to cover a exhibit of vintage automobiles. Her boyfriend, Sam Alderich will be attending as his car business is sponsoring the event. They are enjoying the event until they find a body in one of cars of the co founder of the event. Suspects abound with everyone present suspected even the victim's much younger wife and people he had disagreements with. Molly must find out the truth behind his murder and stay out of trouble while she solves the murder.
The sleuth was well written and kept me guessing to conclusion. I like the supporting charcters and they all add depth to the story. The protagonist is smart savvy and independent. All in all this was a great addition to this fun series with all the charming aspects of a cozy mystery series to love.
I am a massive fan of Ms Holford, especially her Britten Bay series and boy did this one not disappoint. It’s always nice to catch up with old friends, and Holford has created wonderful characters that you would love to be friends with. As is the theme with these books, we find Molly getting herself into trouble investigating the death of an ‘interesting’ classic car organiser. Even though she knows she should leave it up to the cops...she can’t quite help asking questions. The banter between her and officer chris is perfectly written as you can easily imagine them wanting to strangle each other. The crime portion of the story was written brilliantly and I kept changing my mind as to who the killer was.
But what made this book, different from the first two is it focused on Molly and Sams relationship. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m slightly in love with Sam...the way he is around Molly literally had me swooning. He understands her so well, that although he would like her to stop putting herself in danger, he knows it’s who she is. It’s so heartwarming to see two characters developed over time, which gives an authenticity to their love.
Deadly Ride was an entertaining read by the talented Jody Holford, but it did take me a bit to get fully in to the story to be honest. Molly has to take on an extra story when one of her paper's journalists got sick, so she's doing the story on her boyfriend, Sam's Classic Car Crawl, which he is hosting. The first day is going well until that night, when they find one of the original founders dead body, and then we're off to the races with the mystery of it all. This is when the plot really takes off for me, while keeping my guessing since there aren't a ton of suspects, and the clues really didn't clue me in to who dun it. That's not a bad thing, because I'm a sucker for twists, and Ms. Holford definitely gave me those, as I stayed on the edge of my seat as each new clue/twist still didn't help me figure it out. Needless to say, I never got it right once everything came to a head, and the reveal stunned me. I also really loved getting to know all the secondaries who are making up Molly's circle of friends these days. Plus, Ms. Holford transported me to Britton Bay with her descriptive genius. So, if you're wondering who dun it, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you hit that one click button to find out!
Britton Bay has that small shore town vibe that we all fall in love with in our cozy books and television shows. It actually has a strong Hallmark town feel to it. The protagonist, Molly Owens, had a rough start in book 1. Not only was she new in the small town, she helped solve a murder. Settling in to her new life, slower paced reporting, small town, and budding romance; everything is just like it should be for Molly.... but for how long?
In this, the third installment, A Car Show, headed up by Sam, comes to Britton Bay. Along with the show comes a lot of drama. When one of the car owners turns up dead, everyone involved is a suspect. With Molly and Sam's relationship heating up, so are her investigating skills. Will Molly be able to unravel the case before she becomes the nest victim?
I also love that is there is a human interest story in the middle of this as well. These books are very quick reads, suspenseful, and fun. I highly recommend this series.
