I am not sure exactly who the cover art is alluding to; Sylvester Stallone in Rambo? Something like that, as he main conflict in this volume is between Takeo and Ichinose, the pastry chef introduced in the last volume, who sees Yamato as his muse. Takeo just wants her to be happy, he says, but finally, he takes a stand (see cover art for hint at what stand this be for the gentle giant).
We saw in a couple earlier volumes how naive Takeo is when another girl is interested in him: He just doesn't see it happening though everyone around him does. Yamato here is similarly dense, Takeo observes.
I have one observation/query to reveal my ignorance: After several volumes, Takeo discovers his girlfriend's first name is actually Rinko. Is this a cultural issue or about their shyness? Takeo at the end of this volume still cannot utter her first name?!

Yamato está trabajando a medio tiempo en una pastelería y pese a que al principio le costó trabajo, ahora se la pasa muy bien e inclusive se ganó la atención del joven pâtissière, Ichinose-san.
Rinko, al igual que Takeo, son personas de buen corazón que jamás consideran la mala versión de otros, sin embargo, eso también los vuelve un tanto ingenuos. Ichinose comienza a desarrollar sentimientos por Rinko, pues al ver que ella es feliz comiendo sus postres, es como si de pronto la chica se convirtiera en una musa, en la fuente principal de su inspiración para preparar postres.
Ichinose se atreve a exigirle a Takeo que deje a Yamato, argumentando que él sería un mejor partido para ella. Takeo, desafortunadamente no sabe lidiar con lo que eso provoca y, aunque la quiere como a nadie, es cierto que quizá ella se sienta mejor con otras personas.
Este volumen nos sumerge en lo complejo que son las relaciones, en especial cuando personas externas miran a una pareja, y no pueden comprender por qué están juntas. Creo que explora perfectamente el sentimiento de querer hacer feliz a tu pareja, aun cuando quizá no seas la mejor opción, porque en el fondo lo que sientes es puro amor.
Si bien es cierto que una relación debe construirse día a día, es común que los externos no vean o no comprendan todo lo que conlleva dar un pedazo de tu corazón a alguien. Creo que Takeo y Rinko son una pareja que no tiene sentido hasta que comprendes que los dos se quieren muchísimo y que tienen una química maravillosa.
En definitiva, esta historia está llena de momentos dulces, así como de realidades que se viven cuando tienes un romance con alguien. Es preciosa a más no poder y aunque es un género que ha sido explotado hasta la médula, sigue manteniendo su originalidad.

Sigh! I love this series! This volume brings some drama to the story. The pastry chef Yamato works for has fallen for her and is convinced she is his muse. He actually goes to Takeo and tells him to dump her, confused at first Takeo isn't sure what to do as Yamato is so happy working at the pastry shop. But Takeo finally man's up and the two boys have a challenge for Yamato's heart. Fun! It's all misunderstanding, as whatever the boys think, Yamato is already sure of heart [awwwe]

It's good to see another dimension to our hero.

A rival appears to test the strength of the Takeo-Rinko ship. To see Takeo have such a natural reaction to a potential rival makes for a realistic portrayal of a relationship that is going to have to weather this storm to be stronger.
This volume is a decidedly marked return for our favorite couple as the main focus of their love story.

Not gonna lie, I find the past several volumes underwhelming. This arc is just so predictable. On one hand, seeing Takeo struggle with insecurities makes him very human and relatable. However, the pastry chef is so off-putting and I can't wait until he's gone. The bonus story is definitely the best part of the volume. I love getting crumbs about Takeo and Suna's friendship.

I would never have expected to have a love rival make an appearance so late in a series, but here we are, and surprisingly it works well!
While I have ZERO worries that this love rival even has a chance, it was really interesting reading this volume because Takeo has to face his own feelings, and because of that, we don't see him have as many humorous expressions. Like Suna, I never thought Takeo would ever feel insecure like we saw shown in this volume, and as a result, I didn't realize Takeo is one of those characters that needs to be in the "must be protected at all cost" group despite how buff and manly he is. (I had to laugh when says he's a man and Ai is like it must be awful being a man! LOL!! Out of context snippet of a conversation, but funny nonetheless!)
Truly though, I didn't like seeing him sad for so much of this volume, which definitely made me all the more thankful that Sunakawa was by his side! He is SUCH an amazing best friend! I love how he's always by Takeo's side and encourages him by just being there. Suna also gives those brief nudges of encouragement that are spoken at just the right time which left me thankful Takeo wasn't quite as down because of it. I really continue to love Suna's character so so so much.
I LOVED the bonus chapter! It was nice that it was a humorous one and picked up the mood a little bit, despite that this was a VERY good volume that had some good character growth!
Rooting for our main couple and that all works out well in the next volume! <3

Nor much happened in this volume. The main conflict in this volume is between Takeo and Ichinose. Ichinose has feelings for Yamato, and this changes his life. Takeo must now keep Yamato from Ichinose while let Yamato work with him at the restaurant.
My Love Story is an amazing story. It shows the development of Takeo and Yamato's relationship. I am enjoy this current arc in their story where Takeo must defend his love for Yamato from Ichinose. The characters progression through this difficult situation is wonderfully paced and well thought out. You could feel every gut wrenching moment Takeo feels when he sees Yamato smiling with Ichinose. The characters have pop out personalities that push the series forward in the right direction.

Going to fight Ichinose 1v1 in the pit. This is the only time I've ever felt angry at a character this whole series but it's such a necessary conversation to have in a manga like this without it impacting the overall impression of the series. I do love that while this series is soft, it has moments of great impact and storylines that play a significant role in the learning of the characters that influences them as they go forward. Its fluffy but grounded in reality and I appreciate that.

Okay so I really don’t like Ichirose. It’s weird that a 21 year old has deep romantic feelings for a 15/16 year old. Granted he didn’t do anything inappropriate to her but he did her put his arms around her for no real reason. I just get a weird vibe from him. I do really admire how determined Takeo is to not lose Yamato to another man and am curious to see how things play out with the new love rival.

La verdad que es bastante insoportable el compañero de trabajo de Rinko. Repito lo que dije en el tomo anterior, se nota demasiado lo egocentrista que es.
Y Takeo me da mucha pena. Es la segunda vez que vemos que la situación lo supera, pero esta vez le hace frente al problema. O sea, a Ichinose.
Sí me molesta que Takeo no hable con Rinko y le plantee lo que ocurre con su compañero. Creo que si yo fuera él o Suna ya lo habría hablado.
Destaco la historia extra del final. Me encanta que le dan a Suna momentos súper tiernos que muestran lo gran amigo que es.

Soooooo cute!!!!! I keep saying the same things volume after volume because this manga is just so good. In this volume another man wants to win Yamato's heart, but I love how oblivious she is, just like Takeo was when another girl liked him. Also the short story revolving Takeo & Suna at the end of this volume was one of the cutest things I've ever seen!

lol people who don't know what ore monogatari is and who only saw THIS particular cover might think this is a shounen. how ironic.
this is the volume when the angst and drama REEEAAAAALLLY start to happen, and it kind of becomes the main focus. but even so, it's still enjoyable, because takeo is genuinely a nice person and he puts yamato's happiness above all else.

that side story got me right in the kokoro 😭😭😭 i love how much sunakawa values takeo's friendship. my best boy!
(main storyline was also v sweet for something that involves the plot device of a 'love rival' which is not a thing i care for. it's rescued by takeo's support and desire for rinko to be happy tho!)

Takeo has a rival for Yamato's affection attention as her coworker Ichinose declares his intent to not only break up our leading couple but win Yamato's heart for himself. All I can say is poor Yamato.

Muy bueno el desarrollo de Takeo, pues demuestra cuán importante es Yamato para él. Por otro lado, híjole con el pastelero intenso que quiere imponer su voluntad en la parejita. No solo hace sentir inseguro a Takeo, también pretende a Yamato, una menor.

Mi tomo favorito hasta el momento, el poder ver el lado más "negativo" de la relación y como a medida que avanza el manga, Takeo es capaz de darse cuenta de su valor. Tiene escenas tan lindas que me hicieron chillar y decir: metas ☝️.
