An unexpected threat to the power of the elder stones begins to emerge.
With his father likely dead, Haern trains to face the Ai’thol, using every ability he possesses to be strong enough to defeat them. A chance encounter with someone who’s lost more than him changes everything.
Daniel uncovers the Ai’thol using a new alloy that gives impossible powers and he might be the only one capable of stopping them. The search to understand the alloy brings him back to Elaeavn where he uncovers something unexpected. To understand his future, he must face his past.
Lucy gains an understanding of her abilities but struggles with her role among the C’than. How can she serve them when those she rescued need her help and leadership?
Not all is as it seems. The search to understand the elder stones continues, but powers maneuvering for decades are playing a game only a few understand leaving those stuck in the middle facing a deadly threat for survival.

I like the story line as there is something happening all the time, splitting the characters up enables you to have each having their own adventure.
I don't get Orlando taking someone with no enhancements to look at different sites seems like filler only. Similarly Lucy's role with the women she saved ,it shows she is caring but at this stage is little value to the story, we also have Hearn and the women he saved and lost and saved.
It's been a while since I've posted any reviews as I'm caught up reading, fishing and doing all the domestic shit a single man has to do. I've read the Dragon Walker series (7 books) by Holmberg and enjoyed the storyline. The only thing forbidding me from giving Holmberg a 5 star review on the previous series and the Elder Stones series is the constant editing errors in his novels. I decided to read this series to see if anything had changed editing wise but it hasn't. I do enjoy his stories, as I have stated, but the editing errors are obtrusive. I am running behind on my reading challenge because this current series is approximately 650+ pages per book. I do implore Holmberg to find a new editor, your writing deserves it.
I started the first book Dark Ability on May the Fourth. I have gone through the entire series. Then, I read the next four books on Galen and the Binders. Now, I'm going through this series. After 14 books, I am still reading. D.K. Holmberg has a special ability to keep me engaged in his universe. The only other author that I've read books after books is Terry Brooks.
I have read a number of D K Holmberg books and loved every one. They are intense with plenty of action. Sometimes it is difficult to keep up with all the main characters and I have to take a break from these books occasionally. Still will read every books written by this author.
Loved it! Can be read as a stand alone story, it is the third in the series, but has a richer story line if read in order. Multiple story lines with plot twists in each one makes this a real page turner. Wish I could get the whole series.
