I've never felt so seen and attacked before by a cookbook. :)

79166135-10103914583550541-3747461937600921600-o

There was a great forward and introduction to how the author and cook came up with these safe and pretty easy recipes that can either be eaten in dough form or baked into cookies.

I love cookie dough, so when I saw this had 110 recipes, I was over the moon. The recipes call for heat treated flour, which you can do yourself or buy (I bought); this helps make it safer to eat in dough form.

Pictured:

Doggy Dough - This had applesauce, peanut butter, honey, banana, and pumpkin in it. My doggy is a big boy, so I divided it into about a cup for each serving and got 5. I froze them and gave them to him as little treats. No surprise, he loved them :) These was easy to make and no hard to find ingredients.

Cinnamon Roll Outta Bed - Along with the dough recipe, there is a Bedhead Cinnamon Bark recipe and I highly recommend making that to go along with the dough. This was easy to make, you will need heat treated flour and pasteurized eggs (you only use the whites) but every thing else is common pantry baking ingredients. I was impressed with how much this did taste like a cinnamon roll! This never made it to cookie form as I ate the dough with bits of the bark broken off into it with delight.

Other recipes I tried:

Signature Chocolate Chip - A good old standby. I ate half in dough form and baked the rest. Ooey gooey goodness that was easy and simple to make.

Coffee Toffee - I made this for my bf and he loved it. There is a dough recipe accompanying the toffee but I skipped that and just made the toffee. Instant espresso powder and molasses are two of the ingredients that go into this and the dark, rich flavor was fantastic. You will need a candy thermometer to keep things from burning.

A Hot Cocoa Holiday - A fun seasonal treat! There are two dough recipes, a hot cocoa and peppermint, I halved the recipes and made both. With the peppermint I made Pretend You're Put Together Peppermint Bark. These looked gorgeous when served to some guests and was so tasty.

Classic Red Velvet - I went ahead and baked these, maybe took a couple nibbles of the dough, and made the cream cheese buttercream frosting. Decadent and bakery quality.

If you love cookie dough, this cookbook is a must. The heat treated flour and pasteurized egg whites make things safer while not taking away from taste. The instructions are straight forward and the vast majority of ingredients are common and easy to obtain; the heat treated flour is the only one I can see more of a challenge to get. This would make a fantastic fun gift for the holidays.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This is such a gorgeous book! It's visually stunning, with photos that showcase the desserts in a fun and colorful way. Tomlan shares her eight classic cookie dough bases and there are a variety of recipes with whimsical names, like Gingerbread Man of My Dreams and Cinnamon Roll Outta Bed, that will satisfy every sweet tooth. My husband and children happily taste tested the signature chocolate chip recipe and everyone gave it 2 enthusiastic thumbs ups! The book features a very informative Dos & Don'ts section that breaks down everything you need you know if you want to eat these goodies straight from the mixing bowl, as well as general baking and storage tips. Almost every recipe in the book can be made gluten-free by using a store bought gluten-free flour or by blending your own using the DOlicious recipe included in the book. There are even a couple recipes that are Vegan.

I really love the idea of being able to either bake or eat the treats straight from the bowl, but truthfully, I'm not sure how practical it will be for the average home baker to just eat the dough. I appreciate the care that the author took to discuss and list different options for eliminating the risks from the eggs and flour, but I don't think I would take the time to do this if I could just throw it in the oven and not have to worry. Overall, this is a cute dessert book and I'm looking forward to trying out more of the recipes.

*I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book*

GAH!!! Okay, if you are like me, the best part about baking cookies is eating the dough. ALWAYS! Well, friends, Kristen Tomlan has made eating cookie dough the most important part as well. Don't get me wrong... we actually cook the dough too :)

My childhood dreams have been fulfilled. One of the best presents a girl like me could ask for.

This definitely isn't your grandmother's recipe book! Kristen Tomlan has done an amazing job curating this fun, easy and innovative delicious treats!

I've already made several of the treats and it's easy to follow and prepare! Not only do you get several options (also with ways to use gluten free or vegan substitutes) but the visuals inside are stunning!

The holidays are coming up and this would be perfect for both the college student hosting their first "FriendsGiving" and the stay at home mom looking for a fresh and new decadent dessert! There's absolutely something for everyone!

First of all, how yummy looking is the cover for Hello, Cookie Dough? I personally am not much of a sweets person but I have two people in my house that are and they love cookie dough so I wanted to give it a shot. They were thrilled to be able to fill it up with Post-It notes of everything they wanted me to make. Granted I don’t eat a lot of sweets but I love to bake and make treats so I was excited to give the recipes a try.

On the recipe front, there are a ton of choices and they were all easy to follow. There are straight forward directions and do’s and don’ts to help you along. Making the flour to be edible was super easy too. I did not attempt to pasteurize eggs, I just bought the pasteurized egg whites. Even though it was fairly straight forward, dealing with the eggs was a bit too daunting for this wanna-be-baker. The first recipe I tested out was the Signature Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and it was a hit. I also made Always Room for Mint Chip, this one turned out pretty well but me trying to create grated chocolate was a bit of a fiasco so it looks nothing like the photo, but it still tasted great. After testing just the edible dough, I did bake them. They were awesome, though they seemed slightly cakier to me but no one complained. I think it’s the best of both worlds!

There are a few recipes that include other ingredients, like pre-made cookies and cake mix. While I have no problems with adding pre-made cookies, I wish there would have been a simple alternate cake mix recipe included. That would have been very helpful and convenient.

Beyond the recipes, I thought Kristen Tomlan was super fun. She was very personable and I enjoyed her stories, it made it very inviting. The photos are dynamic and let’s face it, freaking delicious looking! I also liked the cookie and chapter names, it added a bit of whimsy. I liked it for sure and I plan on making more treats from the book. :-)

>>>>>My Synopsis (Review follows): <<<<<
Kristen Tomlan has always loved baking, but cookies, especially chocolate chip cookies, have always held a special place in her heart. In 2012 while baking cookies with her friends Kristen asked if they'd like to skip the baking and just split the bowl of dough. They all agreed to, and that was when the spark of an idea entered Kristen's head about creating and selling edible cookie dough. If she and her friends loved it so much it only reasoned others would too. While many think DŌ sprang up overnight (or close too it), Kristen developed these recipes over many years. She also had been running her business online out of her apartment for over a year before renting some commercial space to expand her business. That was when DŌ became more than just a business that sold it's product online. People started showing up on her store's doorstep in hopes of buying some of their doughy goodness. Now Kristen is sharing her recipes, some of which she uses in her store, with everyone in her first, but hopefully not last, cookbook.

>>>>>My Review: <<<<<
When a publisher listed this book as one of the ones I could review, I was like, "You so had me at Hello, Cookie Dough." I had no idea it was written by Kristen or that she was the owner of DŌ. I'd heard about her store on the Today Show and was bummed the store was in New York City and not Tampa. I have always had a weakness for cookie dough, but since warnings started circulating about eating raw cookie dough I've shied away from it. In fact, my kids asked me more than once if it was truly okay for them to eat the raw dough when I asked them to sample some Kristen's wares. Even I had to remind myself it was okay to eat. Ms. Tomlan writes in her book how to make cookie dough safe for consumption. In fact, you can use the procedures she lists to make any family cookie, brownie, cake, or other recipe you may have lying around safe to eat raw too. Please excuse me while I do a little happy dance. I wish she'd published this book years ago. I would have loved to make these recipes with my kids when they were younger. She even includes a recipe for edible play dough. How cool is that? Mark my words, this will be the cookbook to get or give this holiday season. It's just that good.

So I've made seven of the recipes--the signature chocolate chip, peanut butter cookies, cake batter cookies, brookies, brownie cookies, sugar cookies, and Blondies--listed in the book, and have loved them all. There are still many many more I want to make and taste, but I'm trying to pace myself so I don't end up gaining a hundred pounds. In fact, the first question my daughter asked after looking over the types of recipes was, "Is the author a rather large person?" Strangely enough she's not.

The book has six signature flavors and the author gives suggestions for what you can mix in with them. She also has several desserts that use cookie dough in their recipes like cinnamon rolls, cheesecake, pecan pie, pancakes, and many more. The only recipes that have nothing to do with cookie dough are the ones the author uses to mix in to her cookie dough like caramel sauce and caramel corn. Yum!

I'd like to take a moment to thank the author for listing the brands of the ingredients she prefers to use in her recipes and store. Thank You! I cannot tell you how frustrating it is when a cook, chef, or baker on a TV show or in a book says to use something as vague as a 'good chocolate' that melts at a certain temperature without adding 'like this brand...' Grrrr.... Are we talking Belgium, French, German or is Nestle okay? Hey, I think Nestle is good, but I don't know what temperature it or other chocolates melt at. I'm not a chef, a cook, or a baker. Kristen tells you her go to brands and lists alternatives for the pricier ones or, when possible, a recipe that you can use if you'd rather make your own.

I couldn't help but give this one 5 out of 5 roses. Kristen Tomlan has truly created something special. She includes tips throughout the book and encourages you to play with flavors to make the recipes reflect your own personal tastes. The variety of recipes is wonderful and if you'd prefer to have cookies instead of raw dough, you can always follow her instructions on how to bake them. They're equally as good. The author even includes a recipe for Doggie Dough, and almost all of the recipes can be altered to be Gluten Free--which is something I will utilize for my husband. Additionally, she includes a recipe to make a wheat flour alternative. I have yet to try it, but will definitely make good use of it in the future. I HIGHLY recommend this one. It was well thought out and is full of recipes made up of doughy goodness that taste wonderful. What more could you want in a cookie dough cookbook? I loved this one and have no doubt it will be one of my most used cookbooks in the future. I know which cookbook I'm nominating in the GoodReads Choice Awards--this one.

Please note: I received an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) from the publisher for review purposes. This in no way affected my review.

5 star "cook book"

I HIGHLY recommend getting this for yourself and/or gifting a copy of this to everyone on your holiday gift list!

I’ve already made cookie dough and cookies from this book 3 times since getting it (last month), and between my boyfriend and I, it literally only lasts a day or two! The cookie dough is AMAZING, and EDIBLE! The cookies though – even better!! So far, my favorite has been the “Cake batter cookie dough” (I used funfetti).

This book has everything from tips, tricks, do’s, don’t, to cookies, and other breakfast & dessert treats!

Thank you to the publisher, @grandcentralpub, for my gifted copy #partner

I bring you good news, raw cookie dough lovers! There is a safe and tasty way to indulge in your favorite guilty pleasure. All hail Kristen Tomlan, founder of DŌ, the world’s first edible cookie dough store. The New York City shop opened its doors in 2017 and quickly rose to fame. Now, Kristen shares her trade secrets in her new cookbook, Hello, Cookie Dough.

The cookbook contains over 100 recipes for cookie dough (and brownie batter!) that can be eaten straight from the mixing bowl or enjoyed baked. Almost every recipe is gluten-free. The sheer variety is mind-boggling. Of course there are traditional cookie recipes such as chocolate chip and peanut butter. You will also find creative confections like Me Want Cookie – a blue chocolate chip cookie dough with pieces of Oreo cookies and baked chocolate chip cookies; DŌ’s signature Cookie Bomb – a cookie cupcake with a delectable surprise in the middle and topped with cookie dough buttercream; Caramel Apple Harvest – an oatmeal cookie with caramel bits, cinnamon chips, and fresh apple pieces; OOO Key Lime Pie – graham cracker crust mixed into a key lime dough; and breakfast dessert treats.

I can honestly say this is the first time I have stayed up late at night reading a cookbook. Kristen tells the history of DŌ’s success with heart and humor, and her wit really shines through when she shares the inspiration behind each recipe. I was fascinated by the science of making cookie dough safe to eat. The cookbook is chock full of helpful tips and the colorful layout is a feast for the eyes. Hello, Cookie Dough is a welcome addition to my cookbook collection.

@kristentomlan gets all the stars for this vibrant, witty and innovative baking book. Aside for the many mouthwatering recipes I already marked to bake, I just enjoyed the book as a whole! Flipping through, I found myself smirking from some of the details sprinkled throughout the book (pun intended!😉); the inventive recipe titles, the down to earth in-real-life instructions, the little anecdotes and just the full on embrace of cookie dough loving cookie obsessed people like myself. There were so many recipes I marked to try out and the one I did make came out delicious. If you're a baker you'd be remiss not to own this book!

Cookie! This is a cookbook that has it all: gorgeous pictures, engaging stories, and doable recipes.

I’m not a raw cookie dough fan but you can bake most of these recipes. I’m not going to bake my flour to then bake these cookies. And after a while, I was gagging reading about raw cookie dough and dough creations.

I'm basically terrible in the kitchen, so cookbooks aren't generally a big draw for me. That being said, I've been following Kristen's company's Instagram ever since I saw there was someone serving edible cookie dough in ice cream cones, because OH MY GOD, HOW AWESOME DOES THAT SOUND? I literally read this book from cover to cover, tried (and succeeded!) making edible dough, then bought the ebook. I'm gluten-sensitive, so the fact that these recipes can be altered for my needs was GAME CHANGING. I cannot recommend this book enough. Fulfill your childhood fantasies, people, and BUY THIS BOOK! 4 stars!

In an age where blogs are taking over the home baking scene because the recipes are portable and easily shared, =Hello, Cookie Dough embodies the argument that recipe books are still worth purchasing. This is one of the most fun and genuinely helpful recipe recipe books I've ever had the pleasure of owning. It's definitely the only recipe book that I've ever read from cover to cover. A lot of heart and soul went into this book. The joy is palpable on every page. The creativity of each recipe is admirable and of course, delicious! Bonus points for all the puns- dough not be afraid to laugh!

This is a fun one if you enjoy the thrill of the dough as much as the cookie. I honestly didn’t expect the entire book to be edible dough recipes, but that’s exactly what it is. She does give directions how to actually bake each dough into a cookie if you’re interested in that.

I’d say this is a fun one if you have kids and want to let them “safely” enjoy the dough. But let’s be honest, I’m still not going to heat treat my flour lol and if I don’t plan on actually baking, I’d just use water instead of liquid eggs until I get the desired consistency. Still a fun book and SO visually appealing!
