Something Greater: Finding Triumph Over Trials

Rate this book
Discover Pastor Paula's strength in her inspiring faith journey as well as your own spiritual gifts through her honest and stirring story.

Early in Paula's life, she didn't know God, but there was always a pull to something greater. Once she prayed for salvation at the age of eighteen, Paula finally understood the meaning of grace and purpose, and realized God had been taking care of her the whole time.

Paula shares her journey of faith in Something Greater , what she calls "a love letter to God from a messed up Mississippi girl." She details feeling led to a higher calling as a child, how she came to serve others as a female pastor, and what led to being asked to become spiritual advisor to President Donald Trump.

Something Greater encourages readers to know and understand the "something greater" that is in all of them, and will teach them how to cling to Jesus Christ in times of need and abundance.

I read this for research - a disturbing memoir that culminates in its author describing the role she has played as Trump's spiritual advisor as her higher purpose in life. Though she is defensive about her association with prosperity gospel, the book is steeped in a philosophy that says fame and wealth are signs of God's favor.

In Something Greater, Paul White-Cain opens up about her life story and how she felt the love of her father and how she felt like his princess. He had a drinking problem and one day her mother leaves him because he took some of the money for his family. A few days later, there was an episode of him demanding to have his daughter back and he threatened to kill himself. Shortly thereafter, he commits suicide. Paula reveals what she went through in the book about how his event changed her life and how she battled insecurity and not feeling good enough. Later in the book, she shared about college and how she met Dean Knight and how one of his uncles how to change the course of her life. She was told about God and his forgiveness. This is the first time she experienced true radical love and was told that she had a purpose. She eventually finds out that she is pregnant and they decided to get married. Paula finds her purpose and serves in the church starting as a janitor, then a Sunday school teacher, and finally a preacher. She also shared with readers how her marriage was failing and how she met Randy White and how they founded Without Walls International Church. She revealed how she came to have success as a preacher and how she got onto TV. Paula has even become a pastor for some high named celebrities such as Kid Rock and President Trump that God has gifted her to help influence them spiritually. Later in the book, she also shared about her failing marriage with Randy and how we cheated on her. She will also share how she found love again with Journey’s keyboard player, Jonathan Cain.

I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who enjoys reading an inspirational book. I have heard Paula White speak before on TV and online services and this woman is an awesome preacher and a woman of God. I have read a few other books by her and I will say this book is probably the most different written style by her. This isn’t your typical do these steps and change your life. I felt like this book was more written to show Paula White’s story in the way it happened. I feel like this book included many new stories not told before by her and it felt like an autobiography. I liked how she started at the beginning and kept you up to date with what has happened in her life recently. I believe many readers will be able to connect with her story and they will be able to see how she made it through with God’s help and like her life God has a plan for each of us. We’re all meant to live a life for Something Greater!

Something Greater is a memoir by author Paula White-Cain. The heartbeat of her story is Almighty God – from beginning to end (Prelude).

Well, this book is not what I thought it would be. I thought it would be more of a guide book for readers to overcome trials. It’s actually a memoir on how God helped Paula overcome her trials. I had not heard of Paula but felt at home as she talked about places I knew full well.

As the Lord has me in a new season of life I was encouraged by the author’s story. Life may not be easy but with God, we are always blessed. As with the author, I feel a calling of God on my life and want to make Him my priority. Also, along with the author, I have always wanted to just be a wife and mother, and have been blessed with both.

I recommend this book to any woman who has had trials to overcome.

Something Greater: Finding Triumph Over Trials is a motivational book by Paula White-Cain about finding restoration by embracing God’s purpose for your life. White-Cain, a native of Mississippi, is a spiritual advisor and non-denominational Christian pastor. I loved learning about White-Cain’s personal story and seeing her life journey thus far. She draws us into her story, which at times feels like a nostalgic memoir, and at other times feels like an inspirational self-growth book. White-Cain shows that life is full of joy and hope, as well as sadness, but also reminds us that there is Something Greater: God. She shows that adversity can be overcome, and adversity does not define us. Her book is easy to relate to, because we all face trials and triumphs in life, and we are all children of a loving God.

I received this book for review.

Excellent Book!

I interviewed Pastor Paula White-Cain about her book on my podcast (www.kcrpodcast.com).

I received the e-book prior to the interview.

It is such an intense story! I read the entire book in one sitting. I could not put it down!

She details the struggles in her life, personal & professional. The good times and the bad. It is truly an amazing book and I applaud her for taking the risk of discussing things most high profile people avoid.

You will find this book riveting, fascinating and having you want to continue reading all the way to the end!

I debated between 3 and 4 stars because the writing isn’t great and in places hard to follow. In the end, her story won out. The long journey reveals Gods hand and are and plans throughout the rough places as well as the good. Joy comes in the morning might be a good theme. There are many hidden nuggets scattered through Paulas story.

What a testimony of God’s goodness and restoration! God is looking for vessels that surrender to Him and say yes to do His will.

Pastor Paula is always genuine and transparent, and I love hearing her teach the Word of God. This book gave me so much insight into her life that I did not know. I find it refreshing to hear about her life from her personal experience, and hearing the raw emotion in her voice as she speaks about emotional times in her life. 5 stars!!

Something Greater: Finding Triumph Over Trials is an inspirational / memoir and motivational book by Paula White-Cain about embracing the purpose God has for your life through restoration of a series of trials in her life. It was super interesting to read about Paula's life growing up and her spiritual journey as a believer. She draws the reader into her story and allows us all to grow in our faith. Paula reminds the reader that through difficult trials and adversity, that our faith grows stronger, that God uses all things for His glory and that their is always something greater for our struggles. Her book reminds us that our struggles do not define us, but refine us and make us stronger. This was a fantastic book. I really enjoyed it! You will enjoy it too!

"Something Greater: Finding Triumph Over Trials" is emotional and empowering! Author Paula White-Cain shared her life's struggles as a child and adult which tends to hinders a person ability to reach their full potential. However, Paula overcame adversity through resilience and a growth mindset to become a servant leader (pastor).
