Trump: America First: The President Succeeds Against All Odds

Rate this book
Trump: America First gives the reader a firsthand and inside account of the Trump administration's battle for the soul of America.

As we face the most critical presidential election of our lifetimes, we find ourselves buried in an avalanche of political spin, candidate talking points, and slick campaign ads.

Then, just as you're ready to give up, along comes a book that makes sense of a political time like none that have come before. Written with the urgency of a countdown and by President Trump's two top outside political advisors and friends, Corey R. Lewandowski and David N. Bossie, Trump: America First blasts through the nonsense to deliver a first-hand account of the Trump presidency and reelection campaign during its most tumultuous time. From the COVID-19 shutdown in March to the campaign leadership shakeup and reset in July, Lewandowski and Bossie are present for every big moment, and now the reader is too.

With unprecedented access to President Trump, the authors take us inside the Oval Office, aboard Air Force One, and backstage at Trump rallies. As they did in their first two blockbuster New York Times bestsellers, Lewandowski and Bossie show a side of the president few get to see. Along the way, Lewandowski and Bossie also tell of their own battles with the forces aligned against the president, and bring us inside the White House to the rough-and-tumble world of Trump's West Wing.

I stopped reading this book because it was not what I thought it was. I expected the subject of this book to be President Trump, but he was only a secondary character. The book itself is about the efforts and challenges of the author and David N. Bossie, showing them as close advisers to the President, in the President's fight to retain the White House -- an effort first begun shortly after he was elected President in 2016.

Yes, you may call me Pollyanna. I had thought this would be a serious work about President Trump's first 4 years and the important things he accomplished in his first term -- without all the smoke and mirrors of Trumpian rhetoric. There are some positive accomplishments-- it is inevitable. After all, Hitler loved German and restored German pride. He also restored major areas of German manufacturing. OK, I'll grant it was the armaments manufacturing which didn't turn out so well for the rest of the world and ultimately Germany, but it was initially good for Germany. Josef Stalin loved Russia. He significantly raised the standard of living, created a massive good modern economy, provided education for all people and significantly improved women's rights and, most importantly for Russia, raised it from a backward, agrarian nation to an industrialized one. Without the contribution of Stalin's Russia, the allies may well have lost World War II.

BUT, what the above paragraph demonstrates is that considering a President "the Best President Ever" has to include more than him loving his country. And the text must include more about him than a repeat of his smoke and mirrors.

While I never knew enough to actively engage in politics or political discussion before, 2020 has been a huge learning curve which managed to remedy that situation for me as I’m sure for many others. Therefore I appreciate that this book provides a great summary of the Trump campaign for 2016 as well as his accomplishments of the first 4 years in office. President Trump’s message all along has not changed, and in spite of all the opposition he has unwavered in his resovlve to get results! Promises made, promises kept indeed!

This book is also one I recommend to anyone who never really understood Donald J. Trump or his policies. Read this book first and then ask yourself ‘why’ again!

There are two authors of this book but it's written in the third person. I found this profoundly confusing at the beginning. It's primarily a campaign memoir of two folks that are close to the President. The book is a collection of vignettes from the "road" following the authors from campaign stop to campaign stop. It often dips into the past for examples from the presidents first campaign. Diplomacy, trade deals, fundraising and news conferences etc. it's all here in pleasant and informative prose. It's a well documented history of both authors fight against the enemy of the people aka the fake news media and the denizens of the swamp. The appendices document President Trump's speech at Mt. Rushmore and Mr. Lewandowski's testimony to the house judiciary committee in September of 2019.

I always enjoy books by Lewandowski and Bossie. Sadly, this one was written before the 2020 election and could not possibly have predicted the results

I saw this book at Target and wanted to learn more. This review is not intended to be devisive, but a comprehensive look at the topic and the writing. The authors have been working with Trump for a while on his presidential campaigns. They are familiar with his policies and how he works, which gives the reader an insight into how Trump is as a President.

The book covers topics such as Trump's re-election campaign, his adminstration's response to the Corona Virus, US Forign policy, immigration, the wall, the economy, and trade deals, by putting American jobs first. Trump's vision in these areas are well received by those who support him. For me, the one thing I learned was in regards to the wall. While Trump is building a wall to help with illegal immigration, he has always said he will build a wall and Mexico will pay for it. In that regard the authors argue, effectively, that Mexico itself is the wall and they are paying for immigrants to stay in their country. It's well done if you consider this angle.

The writing style is conversational and easy to read, though there are a bit too many personal stories that take away from the messaging. Sometimes, the point the authors were trying to make gets lost in their stories. While this was a tad annoying, I would read other books by the authors as I believe they are factual and well researched.

This review is gonna be mid. Just like my feelings after reading the first 3 chapters of this book, which is as far as I got. Perhaps I should have given it some more time, but I wasn’t enjoying the reading. And why read without joy?

I thought I was going to read a book about Donnie T. What I read was an account by the two authors of their relationship with the Trump Campaign and how they worked for him during the 2016 election. I don’t really care to know about Lewandowksi or Bossie. Perhaps it’s my fault for not reading more into the book before purchasing it.

This book just isn’t what I expected it to be. I found myself underwhelmed and disappointed.

A highly readable account of the interactions the authors had with President Trump during his first term, as well as a credible argument for his reelection. While the book focuses on Trump’s accomplishments it is too anecdotal to be fully comprehensive, but will serve as a primary source when that account is written.

I loved it! It shows all that President Trump was up against and how he utilized a competent team to achieve his success as our 45th President of the United States. It is sad that all the predictions of a Biden administration Corey and David had came to pass.
